Will The President Return? Bill Pullman Talks Independence!

He helped save the world! He's gotta come back!

As rumors of Rolland Emmerich's Independence Day sequel circulate, Bill Pullman is trying not to think about what that means for him.

The actor, who played President Thomas J. Whitmore in the 1996 film, does not believe he can revisit the role 14 years later as he would have only served an 8 year term in office.

Pullman says:

"Somebody has been sending me links to conversations Roland's been having about it and what ideas they have for it. I haven't talked to him about it but it's a complicated legal thing getting involved with creative control and it's an expensive movie.

"I don't know if it's a role I'll revisit, because, in term limits, I think we've gone beyond 12 years - but maybe there's some side of it that he's angling. He works with writers and they try to find the best idea and I've heard a couple of scenarios that would include me and some that wouldn't so I can't control it so I don't think about it."

It's a movie! Terms don't apply!

We're pulling for Pullman!

I never though realism was anything ever strived for in Emmerich/Devlin films so why start now.

They're worried about the president thing more than they are about the fact that he DIED IN THE FIRST ONE???

Is Bill being for real. The guy has not made an important film since then. One would think that he would jump at the chance. Besides there was nothing real about the movie so I am sure for the story line then can change the term limits.

A president can't serve more than 2 CONSECUTIVE terms. Doesn't that mean he could be reelected after someone else has served after him? Or do I need to bone up on my Constitution? :p

Another crappy movie with Bill Pullman. Redundant.

Re: Lyns – I believe it is two terms period. Also I believe FDR was the first, only, and last President to serve more than two terms.

He better not leave Big Love for this shit…

He didn't die. Randy Quaid's character died. Which works out pretty well since he might be in prison soon anyway…sad.

…never mind Bill 'n Will, bring out Jeff Goldblum please - the scene where he is uploading the virus to the mothership and starts muttering 'come on baby' repeatedly makes me shiver with delight when taken out of context. Delicous :)

All I know is that I've had a little crush since "While You Were Sleeping."

Bill for president (again) for the sake of continuity. People like continuity.
