Palin Upset Over Cover Photo
Sarah Palin is seeing red and it has everything to do with this latest photo.
Newsweek has placed Palin on its cover sporting some tiny running shorts and a tight red top. The photo was actually taken by photographer Brian Adams for Runner's World and was published this past August.
But Palin's clearly upset that Newsweek decided to publish the shots, calling the cover sexist.
She's especially upset that it was published without permission and against the contract which stated the photos were under embargo for one year following publication. So they wouldn't be able to get published until August 2010.
Palin took to her Facebook account and wrote the following:
The choice of photo for the cover of this week's Newsweek is unfortunate. When it comes to Sarah Palin, this "news" magazine has relished focusing on the irrelevant rather than the relevant. The Runner's World magazine one-page profile for which this photo was taken was all about health and fitness - a subject to which I am devoted and which is critically important to this nation. The out-of-context Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected by now. If anyone can learn anything from it: it shows why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, gender, or color of skin. The media will do anything to draw attention - even if out of context.
A rep for Runner's World reveals, "Runner's World did not provide Newsweek with its cover image. It was provided to Newsweek by the photographer's stock agency, without Runner's World's knowledge or permission."
As for Newsweek, their spokesperson admits, "We purchased the photo from an agency and were not aware of any issues with it."
So the question still remains, who sold the photo and was the contract violated?
But please, we don't buy that Palin's upset over the cover. We hate admitting this, but we bet she knows she looks hot in that photo!

Yes, it's sexist. Now picture Hillary, or Nancy, or Michelle writing a book on a serious matter, and then having the media report the book's substance accompanied by its author in this type of gear. Many say it's just entertainment and that she is fair game to attack. I've lost all respect for reports that are so blatantly slanted. We have become a very nasty, hateful world. I'm a true blue democrat, but I do agree that this is a sexist move by Newsweek. There are shirtless photos of Obama, but they would never dare put that on their cover. It trivializes her because she is a woman. Her gender shouldn't be what trivializes her, her stupidity and incompetence gets that job done on its own.
I'm not sure it's "sexist," but I bet they wouldn't put a casual/unprofessional picture of Hillary on the cover with an unrelated story. I think the right word is "inappropriate."

the use of the photo in this context is an attempt to demean her by showing her as some sort of frivilous vixen. they would not do a cover of a male politician in his running clothes or underwear, so by that definition, yes it is sexist. it's clear what the intent of the cover is when you read the total hatchet-job of an article. there's just some people who cannot stand to see a happy, average american woman who weilds political power.

While I think the cover is beautiful it mocks her and tries to undermine her credibility. There is an underlying agenda there and I think Newsweek used it in poor taste.

She wanted it published, just not in this venue. This was not some random college shot of her taken without her knowledge or consent.
