KiKi Drunkst And Jake Gyllenhaal Aren't BFF
It's hard to stay friends with an ex!
Especially when they're as hot as Jake Gyllenhaal!
Actress Kirsten Dunst recently revealed that she and her ex-boyfriend, Jake, are not in touch. "It would be nice to see him, but we're not good friends," she tells Allure.
If you remember, KiKi and Jake dated for about 2 years and even lived together after breaking up in 2004. Jake is now super serious with actress Reese Witherspoon while Drunkst is living single in New York.
She's also been doing a bit of traveling having just embarked on a cross-country road-trip with a pal hitting up spots like Graceland, New Orleans and the Grand Canyon.
She says of her trip:
"After we were done, I was like, 'Wow, America is so poor. Just the towns you come across — all that's there are restaurants and gas stations. There are beautiful stretches of pasture, but for the most part, people live simply. The East and West Coast are so different from the rest of America."
Duh!

It's the same revelation that a country girl/boy would get after visiting a big city. It's like visiting a different country. I think people forget that we are comprised of 50 states, all completely different from one another with different laws, accents, ways of life. If you've grown up in Los Angeles and then go visit West Texas, you're going to be SHOCKED. And it might even creep you out. Abilene anyone? Kinda scary….
She is right, wen you drive across country you can see how poor America is.
I quite like her but she needs to think before she speaks. Towns without malls and highways do not equal poor. Real poverty in the US is actually found in urban areas, in the cities (hello Harlem, Brooklyn, Southside L.A.?).
Also, America is not poor. She very obviously has not visited any third world countries. I would suggest she spend some time in Africa or Latin America and then marvel at small-town USA. Overall, she comes off extremely ignorant.

taylor_love is totally right. Just because a small town only has restaurants and gas stations, or whatever she said, does not mean that town is poor. People make lifestyle choices, and if they choose not to live in a big city, it doesn't mean they're living paycheck to paycheck. Where I am out in Wyoming (the state with the lowest population) there are relatively few restaurants, no malls, and the nearest Wal-Mart is 100 miles away. But, the next town over rests at the base of the Big Horn Mountains and you will easily spend $3 million to get a ranch there. She comes off sounding like an entitled heifer (which she probably is).
Celebrities and other wealthy people should get a good look at real America.
Kirsten Dunst should travel to Appalachia or rural West Virginia .. maybe all of them would be more generous about giving back to their own country.

This makes Perez sound just as ignorant as Dunst. There are very wealthy areas of this country that are not on the east or west coast. I live in the Midwest in a very wealthy community and pretty much everyone I know has a lot of money and are well educated. People from New York and LA think have the tendancy to think that those are the only places in the US. Look around much? I admit there are poor small towns all over the country that are poor, but don't give me that elitist east and west coast crap. You couldnt pay me to live in LA or NY. Give me Chicago any day!

And while she wasn't terribly articulate about America, it is true that much of the USA is very simple, rural and semi-rural and really with not a whole lot going on. It is the bulk of America on many levels and what it is that often has urban liberals confused about voting outcomes and basic stances on social issues.
In reverse, its also the ploy of right-wing conservatives to exploit the whackiest things they can find happening in underground culture of mega city America, too.

I live in the midwest and it sucks. There are trailers everywhere. We are the meth capitol of the world. There are so many obese people here and a huge amount of unwed mothers. It is drab looking and there is very little in the way of culture. There are horrible factory farms that treat animals terribly. The midwest is the pits. Don't move here. Just keep on going. The coasts are the place to be. Kirsten's observation is very true about the midwest.
