Robert Downey Jr. Quitting Acting?!

We sure hope not!

In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, Sherlock Holmes star Robert Downey Jr. discusses his comeback and why he is considering leaving it all behind.

He says:

“I have no set plans for my future. I’ve never had it this good — this is my day in the sun — and I certainly don’t want to look a gift horse in the molars. But [my wife] Susan and I want to begin to be in our lives as much as we are in our jobs. I’d love just to sit here and say, ‘What movie’s playing tonight?’ I’d love to finish the new book about D-day I’m reading. I love painting, I love music.”

“I’m f—ing really good at what I do — and have been for a long time, so I don’t waver on that. But here’s the thing: I can only be a guy on a call sheet probably, I don’t know, maybe a couple more times. It’s something I’m so grateful to have in my palm, and yet I already see its inevitable decay."

“If Sherlock Holmes performs well, I could be busy for the next 5 or 7 or 10 years.”

We hope he'll be busy, dammit!

Don't quit on us now!!!!

i saw a movie he was in when he was younger …he got better looking with age…lol even though that has nothing to do with him quiting acting….but he shouldnt quit !!!! hes soo funny and talented

    3. 3

he is so arrogant and totally overrated……no loss

    4. 4

i think hes awesome but i see where hes coming from, maybe he should just limit himself to 1 or 2 films a year

    5. 5

      he is really talented….

so I'll give him a pass on the remark.

    6. 6

I have always enjoyed his work.

I hope "Sherlock" is his swan song. He's just a big irritating ham. He hit a couple of good notes early-"Wonder Boys", "Chaplin", but then got too hip, too Hollywood cool, too doped up, and most of all, too lazy.

      Yawn. So fucking quit.

This is the only Hollywood flick I am even halfway interested in seeing this holiday season, so that must say something about Downey.

he said something similar on the Iron-Man DVD special features, that he only has maybe 7-8 years left of being able to play the leading man b/c he's in his 40s.

that's nuts. if he was an actress that unfortunately might be true, but male actors can play leads well into their 60s or beyond (just not sexy symbols or action heroes)…look at Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson (ok, he's a fucknut but he;s a good actor), Sean Connery, etc.

he is insanely talented, almost at Johnny Depp levels, so i think he can keep going long after the other talentless losers (Tom Cruise) call it a day.

He was AWESOME in "Tropic Thunder"! Then again, I'm old enough to remember him in "Weird Science" - too funny! And in "Soapdish", he had me on the floor! Total fan, here

    17. 17

bitter sweet I love his work. gushing ahead—->! He is so talented. I loved him in KISS KISS BANG BANG. He seems so genuine!

    18. 18

I'll go see the movie just to keep him acting for the next 10 years… that's how much I love him~

    19. 19

who really cares?sure hes hot and was great in chaplin, but wtf cares

    20. 20

he is and has always been arrogant

    21. 21

He's beyond a shadow of a doubt one of the best actors out there - on the edge, artsy, weird movies. Action & comedy. He is spot on in all of them. If you've not seen it, you must see "Less Than Zero". That's where he first showed his talent.

    22. 22

Love him. Oh, he looks hot in Sherlock!

    23. 23

Oh please; like any of these types would ever quit. They are permanently hungry for it.

    24. 24

The Best actor in the world!!!!!

Staying power is the toughest one. Not everyone cares to meet the challenge.

Besides that, threatening possible scarcity could keep the offers higher, in theory.

    27. 27

Wow, he's not timid about his acting abilities… You're a great actor, but ever heard the word 'humble' before? That's a turn off to me when celebs come out & state how fantastic they are. We all know you have self confidence or you wouldn't be an actor; stating it for all to hear/see is tacky IMO…
