Surprise! Surprise! The Pope Is Not A Twi-Hard!
We don't think anyone involved with the Twilight franchise is going to lose much sleep over this!
The Vatican is hating on the Twilight series, including New Moon, which opens TODAY, calling it a "moral vacuum with a deviant message". Those close to holiness are concerned with the message the movie is sending out to people, especially their target audience - teenagers.
Monsignor Franco Perazzolo, of the Pontifical Council of Culture, says:
"The theme of vampires in Twilight combines a mixture of excesses that as ever is aimed at young people and gives a heavy esoteric element. It is once again that age-old trick or ideal formula of using extremes to make an impact at the box office. This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern."
We think you have finally made it, Twilight. You're not really a franchise worth having if the Vatican doesn't think you'll destroy the Roman Catholic Church and corrupt moviegoers across the world.

Somebody tell this guy to shut up and go back to his castle! The Harry Potter books were also on their immoral list. It's fiction, vampires and witches do not exist, we all know that. Maybe the pope and his sheep wouldn't turn so many people off to their words of wisdom if they stopped spewing stupid shit like this.

I'm not Catholic, but I can see how they'd be concerned. Just look at the cover of the books. The sparkly prettyboyvampire is holding the damned forbidden fruit in his hands as if to say, "here take it, you know you want to".
I saw New Moon last night. I can honestly say that it wass the best film of 2009 in my opinion, just as Twilight was last year. I'm not one of these girly girls, I'm a frickin' WWE fan for crying out loud, doesnt that just say something? Doesn't that tell you how good these films are? I consider myself a REAL fan, not someone who saw the film decided that it was decent then went twi-mental over it, thats just a WANNABE. I read the first book a few months after it came out, it was so good that i waited for the release dates of the following 3 books. Unlike the people who saw some good looking men in the film then ACTED like major fans, I've been in this for a long time, before the films were made way back to the first book. To be quite honest, not many people have, and the wannabes make me angry, but i let it drop, cause at the end of the day, they're only faking themselves.
I'd recommend this film to anyone. It was great. I giggled and I cried. something quite unlike me. so if you want to spend your money of somethingdecent, this is where to spend it. head down to the cinema as soon as possible. Its worth it.

The books have a wonderful message so I don't get what he's talking about. If anything it teaches us that good always triumphs over evil and love is forever and you can always choose to do the right thing and blah blah. It's really wholesome considerig it's a love story about vampires.

yep seen it, not as hot as twilight but still good… its not a teen film i had to put up with a cinema full of 12 yrs wetting themselves at taylors 6 pack… but the pope should really not bother to say anything.
i havent gone yet to see New MOOn but i am goin maybe tommorrow but i dont want to get attack i really want to go and sit down and enjoy the film i am 19 years and i am proud to say i like saga but i enjoy more true blood…still both sagas i amazing and i love both…some of you should just enjoy the films stop talking so negative about it either u like it or not….i know that those who talk negative of the film have already seen it prob u guys saw it first than most of the fans.

Um, wow. I am not Catholic and I don't really buy into the idea that the Vatican has all this authority, but I agree with them, in a way. I think Twilight is awful. I don't like the fact that Bella feels her very existence relies on her boyfriend, and pretty much tries to kill herself so she can hear his voice. That's incredibly creepy behavior. Girls today need to know that they don't need a boyfriend to be happy. They need to learn what real love is, rather than this disturbing obsession Edward and Bella have with each other. I don't see how anyone could find it romantic. And I hate it when moms bring their daughters into the library where I work, begging for those books. Girls get way into these books and want their own Edward, and I think that's weird and gross.

But Bella and Edward don't abstain for some moral reason, they abstain because Edward would probably seriously hurt or kill her. Religious institutions might like Twilight a wee bit more if the books showed realistic, real world benefits of waiting until marriage, but they don't. So I think that's a moot point.

in Lincolshire, Illinois Twilight was showing at 9 and then New Moon at 12. I went with a few friends and I thought it was great. But i want to know how people that haven't read the books think of the movies.
I saw New Moon opening nite. It was great! But, I have to say that the book was better. But, I am still a true Twi-Hard.
