Adam Lambert aimed to be titillating with his American Music Awards performance last night and boy did he succeed!
He may have been pitchy at times but Glambert's performance did what he set out to do - get people talking. Everyone is talking about it! From the crotch-grabbing to the simulated oral sex to the guy on guy makeout session.

And we loved it!
Whether he wants to be or not, Adam Lambert is a gay role model and he's the kind of role model that we want to have! Why?

Awesome voice Adam! I liked the song, but getting tired of the 'head banging/hard rock yodel', it's just not new, it's old and outdated, you need to step it up and find a new way to put a spin on your unique talent that defines you more, and less like rockers before you. (waaaay before you)

Glambert is the role model we all need, not just gay youth. He has shown us what has been lost by so many. Stay true to your self, and don't be a sell out. I, personally, would have rather my kids listening to Glambert than Miley Cyrus who does things that are very age inappropriate. But then to each their own. The performance was fine. But can someone please tell him that wailing excessively does nothing for him, nor does it give the impression that he's a good singer. It got really annoying by the end of the performance. Adam, you have a good voice. But please don't wail!

I have never commented on anything before but Adam's performance last night has compelled me. I tuned in to the AMAs last night to check out the big debut. Adam has become too concerned with distancing himself from the Idol machine. He is going over board on being different, shocking, whatever you want to call it. There was nothing "fresh" or "provocative" about his performance last night. It was sloppy, forced, awkward, and uncomfortable. Performers stoop to shock and awe when their talent has run dry (or never existed), when they want to be relevant again, or when they are in minute 14 of their fame. You are right - he has an awesome opportunity to be a prominent gay artist and role model but sadly last night was anything but artistic. Fabulous costumes, yes. Interesting set, yes. Even the song was decent but the pseudo blow job, trip up the stairs, and forced make out session detracted from what could have been an amazing first post Idol performance. Adam should rise above the pressure, do his own thing, have faith in his talent, and leave the gimmicks to the performers who lack the talent to do anything else.
Ok, It was over the top, but in a good way. People are only freaking out about it because of the gay factor. Did anyone go to Justin Timberlakes Future Sex/ Love Sounds concert? Because they were things smilar to what he did at his concert. I was paying more attention to his singing than the fluffy dance routine and I wish I could honestly say I liked it but I was disappointed that he did not sound better than he does on the recorded version of this song. I was impressed that he wasn't merely lip-synching though, like so many others do these days, but you really can't have it both ways. You can either sing live or have a killer dance routine but you can't do both!

Take some overly calculated shock tactics, throw around words like "pushing boundaries" and "artistic expression," and you can convince some people that a rather mediocre performance is quite edgy and provocative. There was nothing artistic about this. It was just a pretentious, self-conscious, self-indulgent stage act. Shocking? Well, maybe for network TV, but ANYBODY nowadays can be offensive; it's really not that hard to do. Freddy Mercury, to whom fans of Lambert have the gall to compare him, was able to flaunt his sexuality to an audience that didn't get that the joke was on them. Sometimes subtlety is better.. When you're just shocking to be shocking, it all becomes transparent.

I don't know much about Adam Lambert (I stopped watching American Idol when Chris Daughtry got voted off), but as far as I can see, I don't really see what the big deal was. He did the same things Britney, Xtina, and Madonna all did during their live shows. Was it tasteless? Sure. Over the top and in your face? Of course. People thought Madonna's VMA performance of "Like A Virgin" in 1984 was provocative! Point is, if you're going to make a big deal out of anything from his performance, let it be the fact that he SCREAMED his way through the song when he didn't have to. He sounds like a good singer and I could hear it in his voice, but he was screeching! Be pissed off about that! Don't get your feathers ruffles by the fact that we got an average (for these days) performance from a not-so-average source.
As far as him being a gay role model, unfortunately, because of the size of our community, every gay famous person becomes a "role model". I think Adam's well aware of this, but he has to live his life for him, and being out and in the media can complicate that. So was it tacky for Adam to portray gays as oversexed and unnecessarily flamboyant through his performance at the AMAs? Or is he simply an adult gay male living his life who had the title of 'role model' thrown upon him whether he liked it or not? Jury's still out on that one for me.

He needs to make a name for himself before he can compare himself to Bowie-other than 2nd place American Idol singer. Make a bad ass album first then do whatever you want. Earn the respect first then act a fool. I think he has a great voice, but his performance cost him a little bit of money as I had planned to buy his CD, but no more. We all knew Perez Hilton was gonna love it, no surprise there!

First of all, I am a fan. Adam is a great performer and I wish him much success. He worked hard to get where he is. I respect that. But, last night I was sad for him. His debut performance left me stunned. Frankly, I would have preferred less shock and more awe. If he wanted to be controversial, he could have done it with only that incredible voice. During the Idol tour, he thanked his fans who voted to get him there. Has he forgotten those little kids that voted their fingers off every week? Few artists have his talent, looks and stage presence. He should have saved this act for the road. I absolutely LOVED Adam Lambert's performance. As a heterosexual 20 year old, I am so excited for the up and coming gay and lesbian generation/community. Look at what this unbelievable star is able to do on live, national television. It's such a giant leap, and whether you like it or not, look at how much attention he and his actions are getting. All publicity is good publicity, right? It's going to make more and more people aware, and performances such as this are going to become more "acceptable." (Why it isn't yet, I'm not sure.) I can't wait to see what he does next!

I am a gay man, and I was offended by this performance. There is no reason to be acting like this. This is the reason why gay people cannot get married. Straight people think that it's all about sex, that there is no love. There are times when I think America is not ready for gay marriage, and now I feel very strongly about it.
