UNICO National, an Italian-American organization based in New Jersey, is fuming over the network's newest reality debacle, Jersey Shore.
MTV claims the show captures the "hottest, tannest, craziest Guidos" who "keep their hair high, their muscles juiced and their fists pumping all summer long!"
Love it!
The organization believes the show is offensive and relies on crude stereotypes which highlight cursing, bad behavior and violence among guests at the beach house.
UNICO President Andre DiMino calls the show "trash television."
It wouldn't be the first for MTV! Maybe he hasn't seen The Hills!!!

This "documentary" that they shot is mainly shot at Sea Side, which is Guido Heaven. If you go to Cape May, Wildwood, Belmar, Sandyhook, Monmouth, this is NEVER SEEN THERE!!

If you go to places like LBI, Wildwood, Ocean City, and Cape May, your less likely to find people like this. The further South you go down the Coastline, the better it gets!!! Oh!!! First off this is incredibly offensive to italians and UNICO has every right to protest. Second, SLEAZESIDE is a poor representation of the NJ beach communities. It is one of the few beaches left that is inexpensive enough for this trash to come and stay all summer. The only reasonable excuse even to step foot there is if you are in high school renting a house for prom weekend. NJ gets enough shit as it is without this Staten Island trash making our beaches look like hell. MTV shut it down.

I think many of you may not be grasping exactly why UNICO is upset. They are upset, not because MTV is making fun of the Jersey shore, but because they are flat out using a racial slur used to refer to Italian Americans to promote their show. You would never ever be able to promote anything about the craziest "N*****s, S**cs, F****ts, etc". The Italians and Irish are the only ethnic groups you can blatently make fun of and discriminate against in this country with no consequences. When are Italian Americans going to stop participating in these embarrassing and offensive stereotypes.
The Sopranos and this show are the reasons people dont believe my family is successful because of anything other than hard work and I have to constantly eal with comments about the Mafia. People have no problem talking to me like Im some dumb, uneducated broad who loves tanning and clubbing or calling me an Italian American Princess, guido or a greaseball.

As a lifelong New Jerseyan I have more of an issue with the way the state is being represented than with a particular nationality representing it. It's just embarrassing all around and not representative as New Jersey as a whole.

It is these doosssh bags from my island that go every weekend during the summer, religiously, down to "the shore". I love going to the beaches out in jersey, but stay away from seaside and pt pleasant bc I dont wanna encounter these classes-self absorved-losers. I'll stay down at asbury park where the ppl are friendly and there are none of these orange tanned, gel haired, meatheads in sight! You cant blame a guido for being a guido. You CERTAINLY cant blame MTV for airing it. MTV is like any other company… they want to make money. This show WILL make them money because people WILL watch. I am from dirty Jersey and thankfully live in a nice area but the kids on this show look ridiculous. I've never seen anyone with that kind of hair since the 90's. They seem annoying as hell and trashy. I'm not sure which beach this is filmed at but if I had to guess I'd say Seaside Heights. Sadly most beaches in NJ have gone down since I was a little kid thanks to trash like this. I honestly don't know why I'm still living here. Nice area or not all of Jersey seems to be going to shit.

I understand their concern. I'm European Italian and I find it pretty offensive. I hate the way stereotyping Italians is often seen as OK because Italians are European so its not "real racism" but they are still silly and "ethnic" enough to laugh at.
