      Ed Begley said it right. The only source for getting your information when science is concerned is peer-reviewed journals. I am so fed up with politicians and celebrities spreading lies about science, something they know nothing about. As a fellow scientist, I'm disheartened when I come across people who would rather listen to celebrities voice their opinions about vaccines, global warming, etc., instead of accredited scientists who have the science to prove their statements.

      I'm a global -warming skeptic and a liberal, but I would be more convinced by global warming in there was more of a debate. In UK they allow BNP, a racist political party yet I doubt they would ever allow an anti-green party. I have done my own research in two both sides of the argument but am tending to side with view that global warming is a natural occurrence however if we had an open public debate I may be swayed to the other side.

      I hope what i am saying won't go over heads..but let's spill this out. Greenland was once green and widely inhabited during the time of the Vikings. In other words it was once WARMER than it is today. That's fact. So unless Leif Ericson (no, he's not related to Leif Garrett) had really farty cows, global warming is at least PLAUSIBLY cyclical (as opposed to man-made). The earth warms and the earth cools, and anyone who denies the global warming of late happened is a fool, there simply is NO way to prove it was man-made. None. Computers cannot go back in time. The fact still remains that there has been no increase in global temperature since 1998. Here's the rub though, we should still give a crap about mother earth…recycle, reuse, limit reliance on fossil fuels..etc…cause we should want clean air. But the reality remains, that since the technology only now exists, we cannot truly know what happened in the past. Case Closed? No….all i know is i am freezing right now, and wouldnt mind if global warming came back! :)

      I think spirited debate is more accurate than "freaks out" as both were arguing at the same volume and barely listening to the others.
      As usual I believe the truth lies somewhere in the middle of both extreme arguments.
      I kind of agreed with John Mccain in the primaries where he said he doesn't know for sure about global warming, but by acting now, if the theory of global warning is correct we have helped saved the planet for generations to come and if it is not we will have developed a new job and technology sector for our citizens now.

      Depending on who you are referring to (a lot of Americans seem to want government out of their homes), that is definitely one can of worms I wouldn't open. I met one nutter, who was a graduate student like I was at the time, and he would argue with me day-in and day-out that owning child pornography (not creating it, only owning it) caused no societal harm. He believed we created a moral panic, and we have no right to jail people that own child porn. I made it obvious to him that allowing 10million perverts to watch horrible videos of a child, creates further harm, but he did not believe that was sufficient reason to place someone in jail. I thought he was just crazy at first, but in fact, that is a genuine belief held amongst those libertarian-types. Suzanne Ost, I believe, wrote something about it, and the libertarians went crazy for it.

      Anyway, Ed is right. There is no debate about global warming; the vast majority of researchers agree that it is happening. The only ones trying to make an argument that it might not be happening, are working for oil companies or the like.

      The anchor is so ignorant he made me want to crawl out of my own skin. Regardless of the global warming debate, here is one thing we know for sure: the world's resources will not last forever at the rate that we use and abuse them and a shift towards decreasing carbon footprints, decreasing waste, and striving towards more sustainable living is not only something that we should strive for but is something that government needs to step in and enforce regulations.

      I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada and recycling is mandatory. Not that it gets enforced so much, but putting regulations in place has really helped and it's made it very easy to do for households.

      It's time that republicans stop focusing on putting restrictions on personal behavior that affects no one other than the parties directly involved (i.e. gay marriage, abortion) and put more weight on issue like the environment that affect everyone regardless of their own action. Like Ed said, we share the same air, same water - let's respect that.

      The NYT just reported about the e-mails from the scientists about the global warming scam. Climate has historically been cyclical. We're now in a cool period. But just because global warming isn't a real problem doesn't mean that finding ways to reduce consumption is a bad idea.

      This argument about the existence of Global Warming is so 2005. Global Warming is occurring. The debate concerning Global Warming is if its man-made (destruction of forests that capture CO2, destruction of wood that releases captured CO2; Glaciers melting–high albedo; burning of fossil fuels that release CO2) or if it's naturally occurring.

      Besides scientific peer reviewed journals, what more evidence do you need? Look at pictures of Mount Kilimanjaro. The polar ice craps are breaking and melting, ocean coasts are receding. Read about whats going on in the small Indonesian islands with water submerging islands that were once inhabited .

      It's called science, and it's called read a fucking book and start questioning and find the answers for yourself instead of listening to someone (even me).

      In any case, it's really stupid and ignorant to "not believe" it's happening. The questions that remain are if it's naturally occurring or if it's man-made.

      I think Global warming is still being debated because there are plenty of people who don't really undestand and also, for example, I live in the UK and it's definitely not getting warmer over here! Our summer was awful YET AGAIN and we had hardly any sun and it wasn't hot at all. The only thing that seems to have changed is the amount of rain and flooding is becoming a problem now. People can debate about global warming all they want but we should be more enegy efficient anyway.

      I think that many scientists would agree that this debate is all semantics. The term "Global Warming" is a misnomer. Most weather is caused by temperature and pressure gradients. CO2 is a natural insulator, meaning that its going to affect weather patterns by holding heat (like how its hot in Houston at night, and not in the desert). But this may mean warming for some parts of the world, and not others.

Sweetie, do you know what's going on with forests around the world? They're being cut down (some may be re-forested). Do you know what happens with the excess carbon? Our oceans capture it, the ice sheets in the poles capture it.

      What Perez should have done is posted the few minutes before this debate which spells out the recent scandal that all these scientist involved with Global Warming have admited that they are stretching the truth when it comes to how much the earth is warming.
