Kelsey Goes Gay, Hits The Stage
Get ready Frasier fans, Kelsey Grammer is back. But not on television.
The funnyman is heading to Broadway next spring to star in La Cage aux Folles.
The musical is a revival of the 1983 Jerry Herman-Harvey Fierstein original and will be directed by Terry Johnson.
Next year's show is based on the current London production and will also feature the UK's star, Douglas Hodge.
La Cage aux Folles centers around the relationship between a drag star, played by Hodge, and a club owner played by Kelsey.
The show will open on April 18th at the Langacre Theatre.

The original was the first musical I ever went to in high school (oops I am aging myself), I should have know some things about my orientation then but that would take some more years.
I think he would be great for the part. I have heard others say they thought his politics would have not driven him in this direction. But it looks like he is able to keep his professional and personal separate as he did on Frasier.

Where do you get your info? La Cage aux Folles doesn't really center around the relationship between the drag star and the club owner…it centers around what happens when the son of the drag star and the club owner gets engaged to the daughter of a very conservative politician, and they try to hide the fact that he has two dads. Think "The Bird Cage" with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane - same story, remake of the French version.
Thats cool…. can't see him as a drag star though. Should be interesting.

The "original" was a wonderful French movie, not a stage show, and certainly not "The Birdcage," which, I alone (it seems) thought was total crap.

He started his career in theatre, it was pretty much all he did before Cheers. He has a great singing voice so it should be good!!
Watch the original French La Cage 1 and 2 is even better…
I loved this show when I saw it in NY back in the late 80's. It's NOTHING like the movie - the stage production has beautiful songs and it's just funnier somehow. I wish I was there to see it!!!!
