Yay. Just a bunch of shitty movies that were hailed by the critics as being genius. No wonder why I don't go to movies anymore. Seeing crap like this and being told it's great is like telling someone that watching paint dry is interesting.

    2. 2

We could quite possibly be in for the most boring Oscar season of all time if these pan out to be true… ugh!

    3. 3

My thoughts? I have hardly heard or any of them nor most of these movies.
      Nice nominees.

    4. 4

      no nom for mo'nique.

be careful what u wish for…and dont burn bridges.

      congrats gabby!

    5. 5

      never heard of those movies…..

    6. 6

PRECIOUS ALL THE WAY!!! GREAT MOVIE AND VERY TALENTED CAST!!!

    7. 7

Really?? Hmmm. I will be very surprised to see many of those nominees getting a mention come Oscar time. Gwyneth Paltrow in Two Lovers for best actress - I really don't think so.

    8. 8

Who the hell are all these people and these movies? Then they wonder why nobody watches the oscars….

    9. 9

Paltrow? You've got to be kidding me.

      omg omg omg
      Joseph all the way

    12. 12

Ehh????? Never heard of any of 'em, and with Baldwin and Martin hosting, count me out.

    13. 13

      Johnny Depp for Public Enemies?????

      Public Enemies????

    14. 14

      I meant Public Enemy

    15. 15

I haven't seen ANY of those movies. Judging from the comments before mine, I'm not alone. Who the hell decides these things?????

    16. 16

      Sin Nombre is great.

      (500) Days of Summer was amazing.

LOL at all the douchebags above me that probably like watching s*** like Twilight instead.

    17. 17

Sweet!! Nice job Academy, nominate movies that like 10 people have seen… Who cares about the Spirit Awards anyways? Let me guess, you film a 3 hour piece of shit with some subtitles and a fat minority and you get an award… I'll remember that.

    18. 18

I think that "Nine" movie will snatch up most Oscars this year if it's eligible.

    19. 19

Idiots left out Sandra Bullock again.

    20. 20

      I hope Gwynnie wins.

      21

woah!!! i'm with everyone else. who are these ppl and what are these movies?

    22. 22

I havn't heard of half of them.

    23. 23

500 Days of Summer .. loved it

    24. 24

I love Joseph, hes such a cutie.

    25. 25

precious is the only one i know about. never seen any of those movies. the only people i have ever heard of are gwen, maria, helen and colin

and wasnt adam scott in step brothers. … wow a long way from that movie

    26. 26

500 days of summer is not going to get an oscar
      thanks.

    27. 27

you are way incorrect on this one. the oscars and the indie spirits are rarely the same. maybe one or two things per category tops.

    28. 28

commenters this in the INDIE SPIRITS. you're not supposed to have heard of these movies. only independent films are eligible. no studio films. also mo'nique did get nominated for supporting actress to whoever claimed she didn't.

    29. 29

The only movie I've seen is 500 days of summer. It was a good movie.

    30. yeye says – reply to this

      30

Precious, Gabourey, Monique and Lee daniels for the win! Yay!

    31. 31

I refuse to see that movie Precious. I'm sure it's amazing and has a great message, but it will depress the crap out of me. Plus I've heard about the child abuse scenes. No way.

    32. 32

OMG I loovvveee Sin Nombre it is really good and sad ='(

    33. 33

      MIMI DENIED!

    34. 34

Amreeka was fantastic and Nisreen Faour was wonderful!

    35. 35

Where the f*?& is Inglourious Basterds? Tarantino? Christoph Waltz? Yeah, I doubt this is what's coming.

    36. 36

What, didn't any of the Spirit Awards people see AN EDUCATION? That movie and the cast, were nothing short of brilliant.

    37. 37

joseph gordon-levitt soooooo deserves it!! not only for his role in the amazing (500) days of summer but all his roles! he is an amazing actor and its a shame he hasnt been nominated for an oscar before.

i think the movie (500) days of summer deserves an oscar. an absolutely wonderful movie!!

    38. 38

this is why i NEVER watch the oscar i have never heard of any of these people or there boring ass movies WTF why dont people get oscars for movies that are some what entertaining

    39. 39

Joseph Gordon Levitt YAY. Gwyneth Paltrow BOO.

    40. 40

Disappointed not to see Inglourious Basterds or Christoph Waltz up for anything. Hoping The Hurt Locker ends up on the Oscar list. It was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award in '08 (so not on this year's list), but may have been released too late for Oscar consideration?

    41. 41

I hope that isnt the list for the Oscars… If so where the hell is Sandra Bullock? I have seen The Blind Side 2 times. It is an amazing movie, and the only reason it is an amazing movie is because of her!

    42. 42

UGHH PEOPLE THIS IS THE LIST FOR THE INDIE SPIRITS.. NOT THE OSCARS.. he was just saying that this usually is a good indication of who will be oscar contenders… obviously the big budget films that most people watch wont be on this list

    43. 43

I Loved "(500) Days of Summer" and I Think Joseph Gordon Levitt is a great actor (Did you watch his performance in SNL?, impressive…)…)

    44. 44

I Loved "(500) Days of Summer" and I Think Joseph Gordon Levitt is a great actor (Did you watch his performance in SNL?, impressive…)

    45. 45

this isnt a good list to predict the front runners. it helps, but its not as representative as the golden globes or the SAGs. the spirit awards are for small independent films. they cant have a budget of over X dollars, among other restrictions. there are so many other movies out there that are front runners as well

    46. ap076 says – reply to this

      46

The independent spirit awards are in no way, shape, or form an accurate indicator of the Oscars. One or two per category perhaps and in some years more so than others.
For example last year the best independent spirit film nominees were Ballast, Frozen River, Wendy and Lucy, The Wrestler, and Rachel Getting Married. Some excellent films but not one of them were nominated for Best Picture. Some of these are BTW worth a rental, but none was worthy of an Academy Award for Best Picture.

    47. 47

      500 DAYS OF SUMMER!!
      F-K YEAH!!!!!

    48. 48

the lack of Big Name celebrities will mean zero ratings for the awards show. they better consider that one.

    49. 49

All of those suck! I haven't even heard of half those movies, but I loved Precious and everyone involved deserves to be nominated.

    50. 50

I don't know any of these movies…must be those movies that only show in limited theaters and the critics love.

    51. ap076 says – reply to this

      51

Re: ap076 – See the thing is, only non studio/independent films are honored by the spirits. The Oscars do honor quality films but a money making studio film of quality trumps a quality independent film not seen by many any time. Of note though there will be 10 Best Film nominees this year (the first time in decades) so a wide range of films may be in that category (?Star Trek, ?Up).

    52. 52

Precious should totally be nominated but I thought MO'NIQUE was utterly incredible. I predict she gets a nod and wins for her portrayal of the mom.

    53. 53

500 Days of Summer all the way. I loved that movie. JGL deserves to win, he's been in the business for soo many years. 500 Days of Summer is an Indie Gem.

    54. 54

OMG - Lady Gaga not nominated for anything??? What a travesty!

    55. 55

I loved 500 days of summer, it has one of the best soundtracks of this year… Jason and Zooey are so cute together..

    56. 56

Precious and 500 Days of Summer are tops for my vote.

    57. 57

      Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah (500) Days of Summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG I hope it gets through!!!!

    58. 58

ummm why is James Franco not nominated for being most sexy?

    59. 59

      MERYL STREEP???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    60. 60

Re: FunnyGuy1974 – i saw 500 days of summer and it was good your just to full of shit to go see any movies

    61. 61

Re: TEOM25 – sorry but quiet frankly that looks pretty boring, besides most true stories are.

    62. 62

Re: Burishe – totally, i feel like everyone commenting doesn't like seeing movies, why are people if they have never even seen or heard of any of these movie???????!!!!!!!!!!!

    63. 63

Re: JaydenRoss – you're a jackass if you don't like twilight, then shut the fuck up and don't talk about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and eevn though i have to addmit that twilight was a little shitty new moon was better they got a differnet director and there was more action!

    64. 64

No one is oging to be watching the Oscar show this year - sucks!!

    65. 65

Re: Yoooooooooo – because he's not sexy, he always looks high, like he's gonna fall over at any moment.

    66. Kerrs says – reply to this

      66

I am thinking that I will be skipping the Oscars this year if this is what we have to look forward to. I am normally into indys and what not, but I have not heard of any of these movies (with the exception of Precious which I have been waiting a good chunk of the year to see)
      BORING! BLAH!

    67. 67

what the hell are these movieesss…

    68. 68

i notice two surprising snubs here. Zooey Deschanel for 500 Days of Summer and Joaquin Phoenix for Two Lovers.

    69. 69

The Blind Side is missing and so is Sandra Bullock. Amazing movie and an amazing performance. Big miss.

    70. 70

I haven't seen ANY of these movies!!!! I freakin' HATE it when the Oscar nominees come out and the films weren't even released everywhere. C'mon, that is a GREAT way to lower your ratings and lose viewers. and gwyneth paltrow SUXXXX! What about Sandra Bullock in Blind Side??? HELLO???

    71. 71

Joseph Gordon Levitt needs to win because he is super sexy and he is an amazing ass actor! Every movie he makes he does a very very good job! He needs to also get nominated for an Oscar for that movie! Joseph Gordon Levitt! Joseph Gordon Levitt!!!!!

    72. 72

precious better have a sweep at the oscars!

    73. 73

Re: Party1 – I 100% agree with you. GO JGL!!!

    74. 74

I URGE EVERYONE TO GOOGLE THE "TALMUD" IT IS THE JEWISH BOOK BIBLE OR BOOK OF LAW.

    75. 75

I've never even heard of half of these movies.
      sort of a disappointment..

    76. 76

What the hell? I've never even heard of these films…

    77. 77

Thought the Golden Globes were a good (better) Oscar indicator… at least I hope so, this list mostly sucks.

    78. 78

Excuse you Douchebag, but the spirit award nominees were never an indication of who the oscar nominees will be. stop giving people wrong information. U r getting worst by the minute PerASS

    79. 79

      what are these movies?

these will not be in the oscars.

inglorious basterds, the road, the soloist..etc…

the spirit awards are like the razzies of award shows.

    80. 80

haven't heard of any of those besides Precious.

    81. 81

Ive only ever heard of two movies on this list 500 days of summer and precious

    82. 82

      1. who are these actors?? *accept for Gwyneth*

      2. Never heard of any of these movies *accept for Precious*

    83. 83

LITTLE ASHES - ROBERT PATTINSON!!!!! I'M SERIOUS, IT WAS AMAZING!!!! BEAUTIFUL MOVIE!! MADE ME WANNA LIVE IN SPAIN!!!!

    84. 84

LITTLE ASHES - ROBERT PATTINSON!!!!! BEST MOVIE EVER!!! AND I'M NOT EVEN A BIG FAN OF HIM

    85. 85

LITTLE ASHES - ROBERT PATTINSON!!!!! IT'S UNFAIR THESE PEOPLE DIDN'T NOMINATE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE WAS AMAZING

    86. 86

LITTLE ASHES - ROBERT PATTINSON!!!!! BEST POSSIBLE CHOICE EVER!!!!!!!!! WATCH IT, AND THEN COMMENT ON IT!!!!!!

    87. 87

hopefully the oscars won't nomite these people. I mean really, Gwyneth was OK, but no fucking oscar for her please

    88. 88

The only one I have heard of and seen is 500 days of summer and it was crap.

    89. pj88 says – reply to this

      89

I hardly call these all "front runners". Yes, you will see Gabourey, Helen, Jeff, Colin, Lee, Joel and Ethan at the Oscars…. but the others are looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong shots. Independant and Hollywood mainstream are two different games and 2010 OSCARS is all about mainstream films this year with the exception of a few like Precious, A Single Man and Crazy Heart

    90. 90

Potential Oscar noms? Kidding, right? Films no one as ever heard of, much less seen. I'm not saying they are not worthy but Hollywood is all about business and these movies don't generate much $$.

    91. kkro says – reply to this

      91

      (500) days of summer!!! yeah!! my fave movie of the year!!! didn't see it as oscar material though :P

    92. 92

not one good movie on that list
