An Empire State Of Hypocrisy!

We were counting on you!

Today, the New York Senate finally voted on their marriage equality bill. Unfortunately, we have learned that the bill failed to pass, being voted against 24-38.

Though the bill failed to pass, we applaud the many wonderful Senators that did speak up for the cause this morning and made excellent points to recognize the injustice of holding back the gay community in this fashion.

To quote Sen. Kevin Parker, who stood in favor of the bill this morning:

"We have an opportunity to change our history. This is the time we strike a blow to one of the last inequalities in our country . . . Stand for marriage equality now because it is the right thing to do and now is the time to do it."

CLICK HERE to listen to some of the other amazing Senators words of encouragement and reason that sadly fell on more deaf ears.

although many of us in nyc are disappointed by this ruling, its the realistic outcome, since most of ny state is rather conservative (although perhaps not as conservative as kansas)

  2. 2

    What exactly makes them hypocrites?

Oh I feel so bad about this and like a broken record in saying, hold on, it will happen.
    .
    EQUALITY FOR ALL!
    .
    Peace.

  5. 5

It's probably because you are in town lol

  6. 6

It can happen. It will happen. MARK MY WORDS.

  7. 7

MARIO YOU'VE SET GAY RIGHTS BACK 20 YEARS WITH YOUR RUBBISH.

  8. 8

blame the likes of elisabeth hasselbeck……
she does need to leave New York, she's rubbing off on it.

  9. 9

I live in NYS and I am DEVASTATED about this. 38-24 was what it weighed in as, and it's so sad. We see the world in color but so many people think in black and white, it's not fair. The LGBT community pays taxes, bills, they have to work, but they can't get married? Injustice.

  10. 10

ass….it doesn't matter if it passes for you…..nobody would marry you anyway!!!!!!!!! nasty shit head!!!!!!!!

  11. 11

I am soooooo happy with this!
Marriage should only be between a man and women anything else is disgustiong.

  12. 12

the civil ceremony should be "domestic partnership". that goes for all combinations of people. "Marriage" should remain the sole area of the religious sector. and lets keep church and state separate.

  13. 13

Never travel to N.Y. N.Y. Sucks!!

  14. 14

Ywlisi. Hang in there. It will happen and you'll never look back. Yn ym 46 ms msmay

  15. 15

Booo hooo hooo…. Get over it. Who wants to get married anyway?

  16. 16

Well I was going to go to NYC for vacation in the spring, but I'll go to Boston instead. Glad I didn't buy the ticket yet.

    Fuck you New York

  17. Low says – reply to this

    17

Well, NYC should ban the homophobes from Broadway … great Village restaurants, high fashion, music etc. etc. and all the wonderful things that gay people offer for New York.

  18. 18

    i'm not for gay marriage

  19. 19

Oh Perez what do you care? No one wants to marry you, you fat, bald, nasty little troll. It's in-your-face worthless flamers like you who keep this equality from being voted in, perpetuating prejudice by being such an nasty little @sshole.

  20. 20

I am sympathetic to this issue, but I don't think it's something that the state Senate should decide. Get it on the ballot and have the people vote for it. But honestly I think this giant push for marriage right now is hurting the cause. How about fighting the smaller battles right now? Like getting civil unions recognized in all states and granting equal benefits to those in civil unions. The marriage thing will come…

  21. Lucas says – reply to this

    21

I'm REALLY suprised. NY is the most liberal state of them all. This is not a good reflection for other States. I'm not gay, but I thought NYC would pull through on this one. Mel

  22. ap076 says – reply to this

    22

That's why I love my home state of Massachusetts. Almost 6 years of gay marriage and running and the state has not gone into a social hell in a hand basket. Religious marriage is untouched, the divorce rate in fact went down, etc. etc.
45 other states need to get their shit together.

Re: Mr Tibbles – You sir are no historian.

The first same sex union in modern history with government recognition was obtained in Denmark in 1989.
    =
Jul 7, 1989 - New York's highest court today expanded the legal definition of a family, holding that a gay couple who had lived together for a decade could be legally a family.
    =
Jun 26, 1989 - Organizers said more than 150000 people took part, making it the largest gay-rights parade in the history of New York City.
    =
In 1989, Tufts devoted the grants from the Jean Mayer Innovative Education Fund toward gender and race courses for students. Among several proposals accepted was the first solid gay and lesbian history course.
    =
Mar 28, '89 - The 82-to-68 vote ended a day of debate on a provision that has had a long and rocky history in the legislature. The measure made Massachusetts only the second state, after Wisconsin, to enact gay rights legislation.

Nov 1989 - Keith St. John made national history in November 1989 by becoming the first openly gay Black person elected to public office in the United States, Alderman in the City of Albany, New York.

Dec '89 - Bishop John S. Spong of Newark stirred protests by ordaining the first out gay man. A narrow majority of Episcopal bishops reprimanded Bishop Spong for his actions but did not challenge his right to carry out the ordination.

  24. 24

Actually gay marriage is one of the few issues in the world I don't have an opinion on. I really couldn't care less. If it's accepted… fine. If it isn't… fine.

I cannot decide on this. On the one hand I think "yeah whatever, why not" on the other hand I do feel sympathetic with people who think marriage should be between a man and a woman… I don't know.

  25. 25

Re: tejaschica – Whoops I meant to say this too: I think that working towards civil unions in all states is a worthwhile cause right now. I think it would show a majority of people that having recognized gay couples in society doesn't affect their daily lives. And since the word "marriage" wouldn't be a part of it, it'd be an easier pill to swallow for many. I'm a (fiscal) conservative who would vote for CUs if a miracle happened and it made its way onto a Texas ballot.

  26. 26

    Fucked again Mario. Tough shit.

  27. 27

There's nothing wonderful or amazing about any of the NYS Senators, not after they refused to do any work for a month because of political bickering. They'll all rot in Hell someday.

  28. 28

I can't help but notice that it's taking soooooooooo looooooooong in the States to acknowledge what a lot of other countries in the world have already dealt with and acknowledged …. Canada, Belgium, Spain, South Africa, etc ….
What is wrong with American society?
There always has to be some segment of society to scapegoat for everything, that's what !!!!

  29. 29

Enough with the queer stuff. They're sexual perverts and do not deserve any special rights.

  30. 30

    LOL saw this coming

  31. 31

Re: Low – lol its like you think gay people created all of these…fact check my friend

  32. 32

The UN should move their headquarters from New York to Toronto !!!

  33. 33

people always confuse new york state with new york city. new york city is a group of small islands that you can't really see on a map without squinting. nyc is very progressive, but the rest of the state is just as close-minded as anywhere else in the country.

  34. 34

America is not ready to fully accept same-sex couples or their equal rights.
At least half of all U.S. citizens are unwilling to accept change or progress.
    Sad. Unfair. Archaic. Embarrassing.

  35. 35

    Re: Mr. Strat
    # 29
    Not special .. just equal

  36. 36

    Re: ShoeWhore
    # 28
You're right. America needs to step into the 21st century.
However, national legalization of same-sex marriage in other countries did not come easily either. It was a struggle for them too, but at least they have stepped-up to the plate better than Americans.
The U.S. just can't seem to get beyond that "between a man & a woman" crap. Disappointing and sad.

  37. 37

    Why do you hate Democracy?

  38. 38

    The people have spoken…

  39. 39

I actually don't give a flip but its getting to the point now that I am tired of the in-your-face antics so enjoy seeing ppl like PH going ape cr@p over such things. If those of you who aren't skanky would just pressure those who are to give it a rest… like no oral sex simulations on tv… then maybe things would turn out different. You'll never win the war of public support if you keep screwing up (no pun intended) the battles. Play like grown ups… get treated like grown ups.

  40. 40

    Strange you mention hypocrisy…
You preach about equality, tolerance, and not to judge people for their differences and lifestyles (which I agree with), yet you make a living off of judging others, and bashing publicly bashing people if their opinions don't coincide with your opinions.
    Hmmm….pot, meet kettle.

  41. 41

And if you think America is so behind the times, pack up and move to the Islamic ruled countries where LGBT are executed. Oh, wait, we're headed that way with our new Commander in Chief. Better get thee to Holland, and fast!

  42. 42

Re: Johnnie320 – Marriage used to be soley for two people of the same race. I guess its the same "horrible" act. If you dont like gay marriage dont marry a gay person, till then let everyone have civil rights.

  43. 43

Re: the straight dope – Why do you have such distain for civil rights?

  44. 44

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  45. 45

Re: Whoaaa – NO, blame the likes of fruits like Perez and Adam Lambert, their flamboyancy has set the gay rights movement 20 years

  46. 46

Right now the NYS government as a whole is embarrassing. I live in Albany and wish I could've been there today to show my disgust towards 38 members of the senate. I never understood why so many people can get away with discrimination. I guess as long as "God" backs it, it's okay.

  47. 47

Read the bible. Nowhere in it, does it say that marriage between a man and a man, or a woman and a woman, are acceptable. It is described as an abomination. Men and woman marry, and have children. If you have to fight to have something given to you, it was never meant to be yours in the first place.

  48. 48

This saddens me to no end. How in the world is gay marriage going to affect straight people?! What's so funny is all these "bible beaters" want to sit there & preach about how homosexuality is so wrong, yet, it's ok to go to chruch & pretend to be holy, then go home & drown yourself in booze. Or beat the hell out of your wife! I'm not saying that all of them are like this, but I have witnessed several people who are like that! My mother came out when I was in the 3rd grade. I was raised by 2 loving parents. You the hell thinks they can tell me that 2 gay parents aren't good for a child?! I never went without. I was loved just as much as the next kid, if not more! You don't even have to call it marriage, as long as they get the same rights, it's better. It's so funny how people are so against this! No one is taking your fucking marriage away!!!! I know married people who are MISERABLE! In fact, aren't most married people?! Why not give the gay commuinity the right to be miserable too lol?! If people are so affended because it's a "biblical thing", EVERYONE SINS! & in my book, homosexuality is not a sin. I've grown up with gay people all around me, & I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Most of my friends are gay & I can relate to them more than most! & another thing that cracks me up is people try to say, "If you have gay parents, chances are, you will grow up to be gay!" HA HA HA! I love cock just as much, if not more, than my gay husband! =)

  49. 49

Re: Johnnie320 – What's also disgusting is the fact you can't spell!!

  50. 50

Re: Mr. Strat – Sexual perverts?!

  51. 51

Re: RabbitPunch – But it's ok for women to do it right?! Psh!

  52. 52

Re: kleeow – SO you must not break any rules in the bible huh?!

  53. 53

mario, you are a fat lazy pig nozed piece off fucking shit. I posted that news on "Brangelina put on a good show for George Clooney"post #3 you lazy fat fuck. to busy pimping that shitty book loser

  54. 54

Don't you get that YOU have hurt the cause?

    I guess not.

  55. 55

OH MY GOD JUST PASS THE FUCKING BILLLL WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?
WHY DO YOU EVEN GIVE A FUCK THAT GAYS MARRY?

  56. 56

Re: kleeow – You are aware, aren't you, not all Americans are Christians? Consider yourself hereby informed.
    =
You are aware, aren't you, not all married heterosexuals want to have children and some cannot have children? Consider yourself hereby informed.
    =
You are aware, aren't you, American was founded and then further defined by 'fights' such as the American Revolution and the Civil War? Consider yourself hereby informed.

  57. 57

Re: Swear to ME! – What have you done to help the cause?

  58. Ammie says – reply to this

    58

Let me be straight about this . . . Texas is more open and enlightened about GLBT issues than New York City. NY is a dinosaur. Everyone needs to recognize this and move on.

  59. 59

    I was DEVISTATED
Heart BROKEN when I read this today, I posted Blur boys/girls on FB just to let it out ;)

  60. 60

I would like to know their arguments against it…! There must me something im missing here…

  61. 61

I think its going to be like the whole slavery thing, and thats a pretty sad state of affairs. I don't mean itll turn into a war, but over here in the UK, we abolished slavery first, and we legalised same sex marriage first. Its such a shame too.

  62. 62

THANK GOD, ALL GAYS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABORTED

  63. 63

The first time ever in my life….I feel embarrassed to be a New Yorker….

  64. 64

Re: Low – Very good point

  65. 65

Let me explain something to you, Perez.
I know that the gay community wants the legislature to pass gay marriage in NY, but it won't happen. Despite what outsiders thing, this is a very VERY conservative state. If left up to the voters, there would be NO GAY MARRIAGE IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK. Would NOT happen. Civil unions, perhaps yes. Marriage, NO! Those who voted against gay marriage don't give a fuck about bunch of gay advocates. Their constitutes are conservative and they vote.
Understand politics a little more, Perez. And know your audience.

  66. 66

Re: Lucas – Lucas, New York State is not as liberal as people think because most outsiders just see New York City, not the very conservative upper part of the state. I am not surprised by the vote. I have lived here all my life and I can tell you, while on the outside people act like they are okay with gay marriage, privately, they are totally against it and would UNANIMOUSLY to ban it.

  67. 67

pretty sad.. just wrote an opinion paper about all this yesterday for school. i can't wait until the day comes when all these bills pass, and everyone in the gay community can see what they've worked so hard for, become achieved.

  68. 68

The couple american gays I know who opted to live in Canada are not regretting it.

  69. 69

Re: Johnnie320 – You are so right…People just do not know what the word of GOD clearly says about this. It's all there is black and white, plain as day. Wake up people before it is too late..God has warned you, but you still choose to ignore Him, you should read in the Bible about what happened to others,,(It is for real) God says:" Vengance is mine,I will repay" saith the Lord…..

  70. 70

Re: jeanmichelbasketcase – Which religious sector, you are talking about a man made religion. There is only one law to live by, God's Law…Wake up people!!!!

  71. 71

    Re: kleeow – AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  72. 72

Re: TNshine – Everyone is a sinner, but the difference is whether or not you repent and truly mean it or do you just keep doing the same sin knowing it is wrong (disobedence)and exspect God to just look over this and say "Oh it's o.k even though you clearly knew you were wrong and kept doing it" We are to confess and repent and not keep doing the same thing on purpose because we just want to or we like it. He gives us free will, so do you choose to do what feels good or to do what is right and be Obedient

  73. 73

Re: stefystef – Perhaps you hit the hypocritical nail on the head! I will take your word there are people, particularly upstate, who will act one way to your face and do the opposite behind your back. That's what you mean by 'while on the outside people act like they are okay with gay marriage, privately, they are totally against…' But, must you brag about it?

  74. 74

    Re: Dana DeVito – YAWN

  75. 75

Re: Dana DeVito – The homosexual community doesn't "choose what feels good" they follow their heart. Wouldn't God wants us to do that?! The fact is, everyone sins. It doesn't matter if you repent or not. YOU STILL SINNED. Most of the homosexuals I know are very religous people. It's the bible beaters that ALMOST make me want to become an athiest!

  76. 76

Re: Dana DeVito – Plus, people would rather interact with open minded people than a close minded bible beater like you. Keep hiding behind God!

  77. 77

Re: Dana DeVito – Can you be "gracious enough to put a quote from the bible about homosexuality on here?

  78. 78

    Thank GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  79. 79

Re: Dana DeVito – & if you are so damn religous, why are you looking at a site like Perez's anyway?

  80. 80

Sorry for the horrid spelling: religious*

  81. 81

    Re: Johnnie320
The only thing that is disgusting is the fact that gays and lesbians are not afforded the same rights as every other tax paying citizen of the state of New York. How does this effect you personally? What does it matter to you if a same sex couple gets married?

Why are some making personal attacks against Perez. What's your issue? If you don't like the man or his opinion, I don't see the point of you being on this site. Might want to try an anger management site or perhaps some sort of therapy for your rage.

Try to offer valid insite, and valid opinions instead of spewing hatred, you are only making yourselves look like fools.

We need to offer this world more happiness. Stop hiding behind the bible and let people be happy!
