Family Ties' Meredith Baxter Comes Out On Today!
Instead of letting the rumors spiral out of control, Family Ties' Meredith Baxter appeared on NBC's Today on Wednesday morning and
And has been for the past seven years! Says Baxter:
"I am a lesbian and it was a later-in-life recognition. Some people would say, well, you’re living a lie and, you know, the truth is – not at all. This has only been for the past seven years."
The former Elyse Keaton is a "private person" but decided to come out publicly because Baxter wanted the story to be "in her own words," considering the 80's sitcom star has five children and three ex-husbands! She added:
"I got involved with someone I never expected to get involved with, and it was that kind of awakening. I never fought it because it was like, oh, I understand why I had the issues I had early in life. I had a great deal of difficulty connecting with men in relationships."
So who's the lucky lady Meredith was spotted with???? That would be Nancy, a contractor and Baxter's girlfriend of four years!
She concluded her interview with Lauer by stating that even though she views publicly coming out as very personal, it is a "political act" in a way and she hopes her being openly gay will sway voters from denying gay and lesbian Americans their rights!
Adding, "If anyone knows someone who’s gay or lesbian … they’re less likely to vote against them to take away their rights. I can be that lesbian you know now."
Check out the interview above.

Good for her!
So Meredith Baxter is lebanese. Big gay shock. I appreciate her coming forward to sway on the fence voters who now have a face to homosexuality. Family Ties was huge!
So her GF is a contractor. Those lesbians are so handy, and I bet they have an amazing power tool collection! Good for Meredith! I wish them much happiness….
another words Meredith Baxter-Birney has a mental health disorder.
Brava!
Bravo to her. I wish more closeted celebrities were this open!
IT ALWAYS AMAZES ME HOW THE GAY COMMUNITY IS ALWAYS THE FIRST TO LABEL SOMEONE AS GAY…WHO THE FUCK CARES…
"If anyone knows someone who’s gay or lesbian … they’re less likely to vote against them to take away their rights. I can be that lesbian you know now." very well spoken! It's true, there's so many gay people that feel like they have to hide that they're gay that you could know someone who's gay and not realize it because they chose to keep that part of themselves secret to avoid discrimination. I think people would be less inclined to prejudiced if they realized they already knew and liked someone who was gay.
You Go Girl! Sorry you had to go through that experience of sharing such a personal part of yourself so publicly, but you were great.
wooohoooooooooooooooo
zo proud
of her….luv
my
lezbianz….
Awesome!
.
EQUALITY FOR ALL!
Re: PalmSprings – LOL!
Just waiting for Gayle and the Big O to come out now…
…"One Fine Day' sexual orientation won't be a newsworthy item.
"If anyone knows someone who’s gay or lesbian … they’re less likely to vote against them to take away their rights. I can be that lesbian you know now."……….the more lesbians and gays in this world…the more hate there will be….we DO NOT NEED TO HEAR their mental disorders….dick on ass or vag on plastic dick is not normal. they should all be put in a ranch togheter in the back of australia and let the normal people live in the city. i will never condone this kind of shit in my friends circle.
Nice Job Perez! Now onto the next one.
That interview was very sweet. Thanks Meredith!
Well good for her.
Nice job clearing it up and being HONEST. Still love her.
Mrs. Keaton… who knew.
I thought she already came out. It's so hard to keep track of which ancient TV star mom is out and which isn't. It would be nice if they didn't all wait until thirty years after their retirement.
like lindsey lohan she is not a lesbian, she is just a really disturbed woman. alcoholism, failed marriages, too many kids, breast cancer, etc…ever womder why she has huge tits now? becasue she got reconstruction after cancer. no guy is gonna want a woman with cancer and no boob. she had no choice except to become lesbo
blah. who cares?
NATURE VS. NURTURE IS STILL THE QUESTION. CAN YOU CHANGE ACTIVITIES AND YOUR LIFESTYLE AND WHO YOU HANG AROUND, YES, PEOPLE DO ALL THE TIME.
ARE OUR BEHAVIORS LEARNED OR GENETIC. ARE OUR LIFESTYLES LEARNED OR GENETIC. AND BY LEARNED I DON'T MEAN YOU NEED A GAY PARENT TO LEARN HOW TO LIVE A GAY LIFESTYLE.
IMAGINE IF SHE WERE YOUR MOM, HOW FRIGGIN EMBARASSING THIS WOULD BE TO HAVE A LESBIAN MOM. YOU WOULD BE THE LAUGHINGSTOCK OF YOUR SCHOOL/WORKPLACE. SERIOUSLY YOU WOULD WANT TO BE ADOPTED BY SOMEONE ELSE, EVEN SOME BLACKS OR MEXICANS, IT WOULD BE SO MORTIFYING
It kinda seems like she didn't want to share that info with the world. Don't you kinda feel bad for forcing people to "come out of the closet" if they didn't want to, Mario? Shouldn't they do that in their own time, when they are ready?
Elin Nordregen is the next lesbo to come out…
I WANT TO SEE HER DOING THE SCISSORS WITH THAT UGLY CONTRACTOT BITCH. BY THE WAY WHAT IS THE POINT OF BEING A LESBO IF YOU JUST GO OUT AND FIND A WANNABE MAN? YOU MIGHT AS WELL KEEP SCREWING GUYS
YOU GO GIRL! And looking good after all these years. She seems like a genuinely nice person.
beaver face eats beaver, who would of thought!
Re: h8terboi – wow, can you say issues?
I really appreciate it that sh came out like that.. It takes a lot of courage!
That's why I love Adam Lambert and other gay celebrities.
It's a good example for regular people to accept who they are even if they're not gay!
Good for her!
I thought it was awesome that she did that. Not that she should have to go on public television and discuss her sexuality. She came out ahead of the story, and it doesn't leave anything left for the tabloids. She was really brave to do it.
i don't care!
why is someone's sexuality that important?
if you're not attracted to a person, not sleeping with that person….why does it matter?
why is it necessary to annouce that you're gay (unless someone of the opposite sex is hitting on you)?
keep your bedrrom business in your bedroom!
Re: h8terboi –
"EVEN SOME BLACKS OR MEXICANS"?? Really?
What is THAT supposed to mean???
ASS HOLE
i bet i could make her like dick again
Home girl needs a chemical peel.
Number 22, that was a vile and disgusting thing to say, and I hope one day you pay dearly for it. Fucktard!
As for Meredith, I am glad she is at the comfort level to be able to discuss it openly, but it is unfortunate that scumbags like Mario/Perez are still taunting people to divulge aspects of their private life that they may not be ready to discuss. It's a deeply private and emotional time for someone and people like Perez, and tabloids like the Enquirer should be truly ashamed of themselves for the torture they put people through. Not everybody is a Tinkerbell fairly like Perez that couldn't hide it if they tried. For others, it's a struggle and they should have been allowed to handle their situations in their own time.
Remember, kids, don't go out in the sun all the time if you are super-white, you will look like dried-up ass when you are old! Good for her, seriously. She's that lesbian we know, woohoo!
good for you Meredith !! if you support the LGBT community please follow @fiercelytimid. they desperately need followers. they have been supporting our community for over 25 years now !! Thanks.
Re: buck – It's "in other words", genius. Too bad we can't all be as mentally healthy as you. LMAO!!
Good for her being so honest and open. And I like the fact that she was able to speak her peace and make a political statement without being offensive or menacing. She just said it in a nice, calm, way.
That's not true. My best friend is a gay male, and I do not support gay marriage.
Kellergirl, you're a homophobic twat and not a very good friend.
some people are just fucking awesome
well done meredith
Did this really need to be posted on twice today?
Did this really need to be posted on twice today? Get it.
I'm happy for her. Everyone deserves to be happy. And…screw all you homophobes! You have NO idea what it's like to have to hide and pretend to be someone you're NOT! Live & Let Live!
Re: buck – Once again,it's people like YOU who have a mental disorder! It's called homoPHOBIA! Now,STFU and go away!
Re: Carlena – Great post! It's so true. I wish everyone could know someone who was gay. You'd see that our lives aren't much different than heterosexuals. We ALL have to live on this planet so why not just live your lives and let others live theirs.
Congratulations, welcome and well played, Ms Baxter.
she is so pretty but should have a less butchy hairdo … you can still be a lesbian and be feminine
Re: LizardKinG – If you really didn't care who is gay or not you wouldn't be so emotional and out of control in your posts when someone talks about being gay,it shouldnt be an issue but trash like you makes it an issue so it becomes one.
who gives a shit that your a lesbian…and oh, just because your an actor we should now vote for your "rights". dont' think so. go away.
Re: DJMIKEINTHEMIX – You are not only one of the ugliest people Ive ever had the displeasure of viewing on here but you are also really a sick person cosumed with hate. Peopl like you suffer from three things that I can see right away. 1) You are not educated and have a low Iq. 2) You are very unhappy and come from an immoral famiy of bigoted trash. 3) You come from the cesspool called Buena Park in the oc sewer.
she sounds really sweet
Re: h8terboi – Wow… never hear of reconstructive surgery???…… IGNORANT!!!
Good for her congratulations!!!!
Re: LizardKinG – We are striving for the day when we can all say Who Cares?
The way she did this was very classy, even though she probably didn't want to do it. I loved how she finished it with her little political note, because she's absolutely right. Oppressed people need to find the courage to be outspoken and open, right now, so that it becomes accepted. I'm glad some people don't think this is newsworthy, but we have to care now, because based on recent events (elections) that is not how everyone feels. We have to talk about it so that in the future it really is no big deal. Live and let live. Marriage is a civil right. It will happen someday, but society has to catch up. Gandhi said "When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall - think of it, always." This is not about murder, it's about treating humans as lesser beings. It won't last.
