Spielberg: We Harvey Knew You!

Maybe he isn't into remakes after all.
Steven Spielberg has backed out of making the new adaptation of Mary Chase's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Harvey, which was originally played by Jimmy Stewart in the 1950 version of the film.
While a rep for the director confirmed his departure, no reason was given as to why he 86-ed the flick.
Many believe it may have something to do with finding the lead character.
Spielberg had been courting A-listers like Tom Hanks and Will Smith, but in October it was reported Robert Downey Jr. had snagged the part.
We're sure J.P Morgan Securities and Reliance Big Entertainment are happy to hear this after they and other sources dumped a combined total of $825 million into Dreamworks Studios.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! No one can replace or even come close to Jimmy Stewart in the part.
He can't make good pics anymore - look at the mess his "dreamworks" became.
time to retire
YOU CAN'T REMAKE A CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!
Robert Downey Jr.is the luckiest guy in hollywood he was a crack head and still has the face of one,all the other crack heads [bobby brown/coreywhat evr his last name is etc.]are shunned, I really don't like Downey, maybe it's his crack face I don't know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He should make Kavah into a movie.
Re: jenjons –
Oh wow, look: the truth.
gO HOme Spielberg
Good news. I didn't want to see his version anyway.
Here's an idea: Instead of remaking films that are perfect as they are and don't need to be updated, why not create new material? Or failing that, take a film that did not reach legendary status - one that was not executed so well - and improve on that? What next? new versions of Citizen Kane, All About Eve, and The Graduate?
I love Steven Spielberg but even though he has never done a remake of another movie, many of his films have been bases on source material of novels or non-fiction histories.
good job steve, there is no replacement for jimmy stewart
"Run out of ideas?"— This man has done more in his life time than you'll ever do!!!!
