Stephen Colbert Is A "Jerk!"
Well according to U.S. speed skater and Olympic gold medalist Shani Davis he is!
The athlete was asked by the Canadian press what he thought about Stephen Colbert's comments about Canadians including calling them "syrup-suckers," "Saskatchewhiners," and "Canadian iceholes."
Davis responded by calling him a jerk!
Though Stephen Colbert just raised $300,000 via his website for U.S. speed skating after Dutch bank DSB pulled out of their sponsorship agreement.
His comments were a reaction to the restrictions Canada has placed on foreign teams using Canadian facilities to train for the 2010 Olympics.

In fact Canada has the second largest oil reserve in the world and is one of the biggest providers of oil too the US. So you would think he would know this and would be able too take a joke.

How I Met Your Mother Makes far more Canadian jokes. The US is often the butt of many jokes and hatred even and we roll with the punches united at the end of the day. Canadians should learn to roll with the punches or I say manifest destiny and a 51st state.

It's a beautiful country with friendly people .. who really seem to appreciate tourist dollars.

Are you joking? Canada will dominate the winter olympics in 2010. We have all the superstar hockey players on our side. Team USA isn't even a thought in anyone's mind for being a gold contender in mens, or womens hockey.

Why let the US and Chinese and Europeans get used to the snow & ice they'll be competing on when they don't have to? Everyone will get a chance before Vancouver 2010, but just one chance - just like all the other Olympics that have ever been held.

If you have ever watched the show the Stephen Colberts portrays a "character" whom is a egomaniacal right-winged idiot. On the show he had been informing the viewers that the Canadians aren't letting the US team practice at their facilities because they want to win the gold, so he came up with the most ridiculous names he could think of to egg the Canadians and rally support for the american team. He's also had some of the team come on the show to talk about. So if Shani wants to call him a jerk for helping the US team than.. I would have to say, "Shani, you're a jerk."

I've never found him funny, but find Jon Stewart funny. Colbert helped the U.S. speedskating team when their funding evaporated, so I like that, but he isn't representing the situation accurately. "We've offered ample training time to international teams, including the U.S. team," and "The rules are — and they are very clearly set by the ISU, the International Skating Union — that the organizing committee for the Games offers a set amount of international team training time," a VANOC spokesperson said.
I'm Canadian and I take offense to some of the comments Colbert makes. It's nice to see he's being called a Jerk by one of his own countrymen… We tightened our policies regarding the Olympics, however, you Americans have made a lot of our regular activities the equivalent of jumping through hoops (like crossing into the US for a shopping trip, why do 3 young women need to be hassled at the border, is it shocking that Canadians might want to go to New York on a shopping spree before Christmas???) He's a jerk… and so was that chick at the border who made us wait over an hour before letting us through.
I'm a Canuck too and I am not offended by him, no. But the fact is that he put untruths out there. I live in Vancouver and there are American athletes here right now training. There were many American athletes training in Whistler when I was there last winter too. He's not a jerk, just very misinformed.

It's the same restrictions that every country has before every Olympics. Canada has to have a certain amount of weeks open for other teams to train and we have. No one's showed up yet. As with all other Olympics, visiting teams don't get to pick and choose when they want to visit. It was the same in Salt Lake City.

I am ashamed to say I cannot name their Prime Minister or even know to which party he belongs. I could only name 9 of the 10 provinces (forgot Manitoba) and two of the three territories (never even heard of Nunavut).
I love our friends to the north but I also love me South Park's song "Blame Canada".
One more point they share the same love of guns as Americans, view the same media, and share the same old west tradition yet have a fraction of the gun injuries and killings (by % population) compared with America, yet there is no answer as to why. I guess they are doing something right.

Re: bikerchic – Canada is listed as number eight out of 34 nations in terms of gun ownership. The only point I was making was a pro-Canada one in which I was stating Canadians can own guns in numbers (32 guns per 100 citizens) without the violence that we Americans see to have.
You are correct Americans do have a much larger love for their guns. For every 100 American citizens there are 90 guns in this nation. BTW I am a strong supporter of 2nd amendment rights to any ready to criticize but not of gun violence/accidents.

Re: imabigrockstar – Actually, we didn't ask for extra ice time at all. Canada has denied access for ALL countries to train on the Vancouver ice before the Olympics. The ONLY country to deny access training time to foreign countries before an Olympic event. I would know since I'm training for them.

I am from Canada and I am not offended by Stephen Colbert's comments. He is a comedian, you just have to take it all in stride. That asshole from Fox's "Redeye" (or something, such an unimportant show I forget the show and the man's name) made some extremely offensive comments about Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. If anyone should be labeled "jerk" it would be him, not Stephen Colbert. I was entertained by the "Saskatchewhiners" remark, since I am from Saskatchewan and that is probably the closest most American's get to correctly pronouncing the name of our province!
