Billy Joel Says His Daughter Was "Never In Any Danger" After Suicide Attempt

At least she's okay!
Billy Joel told reporters on Saturday night that his daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, is planned to fully recover after attempting to kill herself earlier in the day.
Authorities were alerted to Joel's suicide attempt on Saturday afternoon when the 23-year-old ingested a almost-deadly quantity of sleeping pills at her Greenwich Village apartment.
She was rushed to St. Vincents hospital, where her father says she was "never in any danger" because she arrived at the hospital soon enough.
Joel is currently with her mother, former model Christie Brinkley, and will be just fine, according to Billy.

Perhaps now her parents will stop their selfish patterns of broken marriages, addictions and attempts to gain back fame. They should focus on Alexa instead of themselves for once.

As for those on this thread saying it is stupid for someone to attempt or commit suicide you are in no position to judge. We do not know her circumstances nor reasons she did so. Everyone has their different tolerance levels to life's upheavals. Things in life could change very quickly for you and you could be one day contemplating suicide. It wasn't sleeping pills, it was Traumeel. which is a homeopathic antihistamine and muscle relaxer. Apparently she took 7-8 pills and had trouble breathing.

The media, including this site, have been very unkind to this young woman over the years. I hope everyone leaves her alone and allows her time to get well and heal.
What does never in any danger mean? She took a bunch of pills. THAT is danger. With Michael Jackson and his insomnia, Tiger Woods and his Ambien and now Alexa with sleeping pills…. is the whole world having trouble sleeping and going crazy? Alexa Ray is a gorgeous young woman. Can you imagine having to grow up with Billy and Christie for parents? Her mother has had four husbands, including the last one who is addicted to internet porn, had a teenage mistress and verbally abused Alexa Ray. Her father is an alcoholic, has has numerous marriages, car accidents and married a gold digging girl only a few years older than Alex Ray. Hopefully she can get the help she needs, and stop with the name calling Perez. Words hurt, and you are nobody to talk.

She's Adorable. Why she feels hopeless is beyond me. Having the blessing of not being homeless, and pretty much endless opportunity; should give anyone hope. Maybe something happened we know nothing about, but dayum, girl, here I am struggling to make rent, pretty much selling my bod, when my mind is so USEFUL. I often go hungry, and you're so blessed. Whatever it is, I truly hope you work it out, cuz if it's anything less…do some volunteer work and heal yourself. I find a few hours a month myself, and it's some of the nicest hours of my day/month.

"Never in danger" is ironic. When people attempt suicide, there is something terribly wrong. Suicide attempts are extremely serious. I hope Alexa realizes it is not her only option although it may feel like it is.

People commit suicide because of a medical condition called depression. It changes your brain chemistry, which screws up your physical and mental functioning. When you don't have enough of certain chemicals in your brain, your moods do not function the way that a normal persons does.
It is ignorant to think that rich person will not have a medical condition. It is ignorant to think that people commit suicide because they are poor or because somebody was mean to them. 90% of suicides could be prevented by a simple blood test and the right meds.
The word "depression" is used a lot to mean "bummed" but it is not the same thing as the medical condition. Interestingly, the brain fully develops at age 22-23, so her depression has probably only recently fully hit her.
Statisically, women commit suicide with pills and razors, men use guns and gassing.
It is ridiculous to say that she "didn't mean it". Most females fail on their first attempt, but they usually get it right by the third time.
She needs medical help, she needs it now and she needs to stop hanging around stupid alcoholics. People who decided that the daily ingestion of a known depressant was a good idea, probably aren't the best people to talk to about wanting to escape the hell that is biological depression.
With the glare of all this media on her and everybody around her saying that she's just faking or attention seeking, she'll damn well make sure she gets it right next time.
