Turns out 80's heartthrob-turned-hasbeen Andrew McCarthy is set to direct an episode of Gossip Girl.
Does the cast even know who he is?
Trying to keep his name in the press for as long as possible, the "director" isn't saying much about his episode, stating "I can't give you much. Except, there is a 9 1/2 Weeks kind of thing going on in the story line."
Doesn't ring a bell?
The film he's referring to is a 1986 drama that chronicled an erotic affair between art gallery assistant played by Kim Basinger and a wealthy business man played by Mickey Rourke.
The Gossip Girl episode is slated to air in the spring of 2010, which is when he'll return to being a nobody again.

Don't assume your readers are so stupid they can't understand a reference, Perez. I know exactly what 9 1/2 Weeks is, and I know who Andrew McCarthy is, he starred in some of my favorite movies of all-time.
So did he snub you at some party or something? Because otherwise I can't imagine why you would think a post about somebody directing an episode of Gossip Girl is news at all. The shows ratings are tanking and you yourself are saying that Andrew McCarthy isn't newsworthy….so then why bother with the post? Why not comment on the Kid from Glee's interview on Chelsea Lately where he basically commented on the huge number of closeted male actors in Hollywood. Hell THAT kid is giving more gossip than YOU are!

Question: Why would an actor who decided to direct an episode of a successful TV show be considered a "has-been"? Andrew McCarthy is a talented man who is looking to take on something new. No doubt he has future plans to direct feature films, and every director has to start somewhere for practice. Why bash someone for trying something new?
Also, directors like Quintin Tarantion (Pulp Fiction/Kill Bill) and Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: First Contact/Thunderbirds) direct occassional TV episodes. Should we think of them as 'has beens' too?
