As The World Turns Canceled!

If this keeps up, what will your grandparents watch during the day?!?!?!

Only a few short months after the cancellation of it's sister soap Guiding Light, which ran for 72 years, As The World Turns is about to suffer the same fate.

CBS will air the final episode of the show in September of next year, permanently ending the show's 54 year run. The finale is sure to include some kind of big finish for Luke and Noah, one of the most prominent and well known gay characters in soap opera history.

Should Susan Lucci start worrying?

  3. 3

Who needs this when we have Tiger, Hoff, Lindsey, Dave…and you too, fatass

  4. 4

I watch ABC shows, but this breaks my heart. I've been watching daytime since I was a little girl & fear that the end is near for all of them.

  5. 5

    damn! cbs sucks!

  6. 6

As long as it's not days of our lives I don't care! It is sad to see these shows that have been on all this time getting canceled! I mean they have lasted this long what changed?

  7. 7

    Its= possessive. It's = a contraction meaning "it is."
    Sheeesh.

  8. 8

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooo for the first time in history we had a day time gay couple to relate to and help those who are coming out see that it is ok!!! WTF CBS… NBC pick up those actors and continue the story somewhere else then!!!

Re: brainchild – So true !! LOL

  10. 10

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been watching this since I was in my mom's womb! :( …….

  11. 11

what about desperate housewives anyone saw it? it was awesome! :D

  12. 12

who the fuck cares its a stupid show

  13. 13

NOOOOOOO why does the only soap I watch have to be canceled!? I only watch it for Luke and Noah, they are so fucking cute

  14. 14

Re: NUKE&OLLIAN – I know Luke and Noah are so adorable. This really sucks. F u CBS

  15. 15

Would a little fact-checking kill you, fatty? According to IMDB, Guiding Light debuted in 1952. That falls more than just a little short of the 72 year run you are claiming. (hint: in order for it to have a 72 year run, it would have had to debut in 1937!)

  16. 16

This is what CBS thinks of its viewing audience. Next it will be replaced with some stupid game show or talk show that will be canceled at least 20 times. There is no honoring of tradition and quality. Out with the old and on to something better? As The World Turns has consistently turned out great stories and acting. It will be sorely missed.

  17. 17

    nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

  18. 18

I blame these shows for my deafness — long before the days of standing too close to the speakers at concerts. (my granny was hard of hearing)

Re: DaniMac – Wooo Pig Souie

  19. 19

well that sucks! I started watching it a few years back after I got sick of the crap that has happened to Days.

  20. 20

wow that must have been some boring years

  21. 21

    Awful news!

  22. 22

Re: cherrysizzleneptune – Check your facts. Guiding Light originally debuted as a radio show and transitioned to television.

  23. 23

NNNOOOO, I guess, I should be happy since they killed off Brad and he's a ghost now, where the hell is that story line going to go

Guiding Light began on radio in 1937 and transitioned to television in 1952. It was indeed over 72 years old.

And while Days of Our Lives is still holding strong, the daytime community is very small and close-knit. With ATWT leaving, there will only be 6 soaps left. Anytime a soap is axed, it does not equal good news for any soap. They are all losing their audience. They have been drastically since the late 90's.

The Young & the Restless will be the last soap standing. They're still earning ratings that most of the other soaps haven't reached in nearly 10 years. The Bold & the Beautiful still has huge international audiences, so they'll most likely be the 2nd last to go. Days of Our Lives is managing to hold on, but boy you can tell they are suffering financially.

Soap fans are already predicting that One Life to Live will be the next to be axed. So it looks like now that ATWT has been cancelled, CBS will hold off on cancellations and it'll be ABC's turn. First One Life, then All My Children, then General Hospital.

Come 2020, they'll all be gone.

GRANDPARENTS? WTF About ME??!?! Lots of teenagers watch soaps too.. I'm 18 FFS!

    I don't watch ATWT, but it's a shame.

WATCH DAYS OF OUR LIVES PEOPLE!

    LOL!! MTE!

  27. 27

So sad but its just a sign of the times, ratings have been dropping steadily in the last ten years. For me it was a bonding thing when I was a little girl with my grandmother and my mother. Just really sad to watch a genre die out like this.

  28. 28

The only people who watch soaps are the morons who act in them.
It time for those losers to get a life.

Will we in the years to come see the complete death of the "daytime dramas". In English that is, the Spanish language industry ones seem to do quite well.

  30. 30

days of our lives is next to go.

  31. 31

have you watched them lately? It's like their in a strange time capsule. Everything is so forced…past their prime…time for your own show Perez?

  32. 32

Re: cherrysizzleneptune – No - it debuted in 1937 - on radio

  33. 33

Major bummer! I grew up watching ATWT & GL with my mom. I cant believe that game & judge shows do better. It was a nice escape from the motherhood zoning out & wacthing them.

  34. 34

Fuck Cbs they cancel everything. There's no point even watching them anymore. As soon as you like something they ax it.

  35. 35

Those two shows had the most brutal writing! Not surprised at all.

  36. 36

Re: cherrysizzleneptune – Guiding LIght started as a radio program. Check YOUR facts!

  37. 37

NOOOOOO!!!! I'll admit, i watch all the same shit as everyone else my age (I'm 22) but i actually do watch ATWT EVERYDAY! this pisses me off. i hope it doesnt end with luke and noah getting married. they're only 21!

  38. 38

MORE ROOM FOR MARTHA STEWART'S SHOW which has been dropped in Many Markets. MARTHA MARTHA MARTHA MARTHA MARTHA

    Re: kaylzx

you obviously don't follow the ratings.. days is doing good. NBC actually seems proud of them. They came in 2nd with B&B.. they aren't going anywhere for a few years..

    OLTL on the other hand…

  40. 40

I'm not surprised. I've been watching ATWT for years and stopped watched when they killed off Brad….but yet he is still in scenes as a "ghost."!?!?! WTF? Sad. :(

  41. 41

I am so freakin bummed!!! I have been watching this show everyday for 13 years! I look forward to watching it, it's the only show I really love thats still on and the only dayime show that is not cheesy! Stupid CBS!! I hope a miracle happens and they bring it back!!!

  42. 42

I just started watchig it again recently and it has gotten really good because they have alot of the actors that were on when I was watching it-Damien, Carly, Meg as a psycho, and the addition of Noah and Luke is just the icing on the cake. CBS better not even think about cancelling "The young and the restless" because Ive been watching that show on and off for most of my life and actually remember when a lot of the younger characters were born-Nicholas, Victoria, Lily, Daniel. And I remember when Phyllis was crazy and Michael was a tool.

My mom is crushed!! She is 57 years old and has watched this soap since she's been 13!!! She said it will honestly feel like a ”death” to her!! I too watch ATWT, but I definitely haven't been watching it that much anymore, because it's been kind of boring, but it really does SUCK that this is happening! And all i have to say is they BETTER get Jack and Carly back together, ASAP!! Hopefully, they'll find another network to put it on! Otherwise, seriously, I think ALL of Soap History will be a thing of the past! They probably will ALL be cancelled someday. How sad..so many ppl out of jobs :(

  44. 44

    That's pretty upsetting

  45. 45

    Re: paige d
ha, same as me, just started watching it again after many years!
