Billy Corgan has given up trying to make Smashing Pumpkins fans empty out their pockets for the Pumpkins music!

So now he's giving it away for free!

…Sort of.

Corgan is planning on releasing 44 singles, free of charge, in promotion of SP's "web-based project", Teargaden by Kaleidyscope.

Corgan claims "Each song will be made available absolutely for free, to anyone anywhere."

And he adds, "There will be no strings attached. Free will mean free, which means you won't have to sign up for anything, give an e-mail address, or jump through a hoop. You will be able to go and take the song or songs as you wish, as many times as you wish."

The first single, A Song for a Son, has already been released through the music website, Spinner.

Will U be downloading the new singles??

Maybe they figure that if they release all those songs for free they will get more people to go to their tour if they do decide to tour. Sounds pretty smart to me considering 44 songs is A LOT of songs.

      Whatever. Boring.

Smashing Pumpkins suck ass. Their songs suck ass. Their lyrics suck ass. Mr. Corgan sucks ass. The fact that one of their songs was used to promote "Watchmen" made me like that movie less.

If you couldn't tell already, I won't be downloading this junk. (It's better than Gaga though).

smashing pumpkins are brilliant, although i swear you've posted about this before. it's not news

Love the Smashing Pumpkins version of "Landslide." Thanks for the free gift, Billy!

This is what successful band do to say thanks. Unlike these packaged pop tarts who rerelease a remix album of their last one and charge full price. Or after 2 albums put out a greatest hits album with 1 or 2 new new tracks and fleece their fans again

      Isn't this REALLY old news?

Smart move since nobody would ever pay for their crappy overrated music anyway.

it's about time an amazing band who cares about what they put out there is acknowledging the shiteous economy and saying thank you to their fans. sp is the shit. and 'a song for a son' is amazing and being called epic and 'stairway to heaven part 2' by critics. corgan's a genius.

      hes done this before preZzie

i guess he figures theres no money in selling music so he'll give some away and make his fans happy without committing a crime

I am very happy to be able to access Billy's art for free - considering I've been a fan since 1991, I think this is a sweet thank you for my patronage and dedication to the band - so thank you Billy for such an amazing gesture, I will download them all with a smile on my face and a song in my heart - hooray for Billy! :D

Hmm, kinda strange how this is released right around the time hes linked to Jessica Simpson. Way to sell out Corgan. You, Trent Reznor, Chris Cornell, who's next?
