Stephen Gately Left No Will

We really hope this doesn't turn into some greedy drama!

Almost two months after his tragic death, the fortune left behind by Stephen Gately is still being shuffled around.

The reason? Stephen never drafted a will, or least not one that anyone can get their hands on.

Because no documentation can be found and since England recognizes same-sex unions, if a will isn't found, the majority his $10 million will go to his partner, Andrew Cowles. Andrew has already publicly stated that any money he receives will be given to charity.

We think that would be what he wanted.

how sad is it that even in death people still value money over a life

  2. 2

    who are these people?

  3. 3

Andrew can talk about giving it to charity but I will rather wait and see what he does when he gets the dough. Stephen was so young and I doubt he knew what the future would hold for him.

  4. 4

Since you never Met Stephen why would presume to know "What he would want"? Maybe he would have wanted his family, friends, husband etc… to have the money. That was a ridiculous statement.

  5. 5

    He's Irish, not english!

  6. 6

he lived in my area, dey realy did it up 4 his funeral, dey shud bring sum money back 2 our area, its a tough, poor neighbourhood

  7. 7

I'm from the same area as Stephen and I think Andrew shud put sum money back in our area because its a poor, tough neighbourhood. not many people get the chance to get out like he did.

    Re: Devil_In_DoubleDs

Well, the guy who's going to get the money says he's giving it all to charity, so… yay?

  9. 9

    riiiight…
let's wait and see if he actually gets the $$.
then let's wait to see if he really gives it to charity.
maybe some, but i doubt he'd give ALL.

Wow….that's awfully noble of him to give away $10 million to charity. And it shoudl rightfully go to him really since they were "spouses". I wonder if he has his own money then because I know I wouldn't be able to give that much away. Even for a good cause.

That man was beautiful. R.I.P. And yes, some of the money should go to his partner.

  12. 12

Nobody gives a shit about this foreign phaegget

  13. 13

He is IRISH!! and same sex unions are not recognised there

  14. 14

    RIP Stephen. :(

  15. 15

The money should not only go to his partner but also to his family, but its good, here in chile they wanna make a law that recognize the non married couples for all this things and it is supposed to cover same sex unions too

  16. 16

How do you guys know he wont send that to charity? Just because YOU guys, and most of the people around would spend it on themselves doesn't mean there aren't genuinely honest, caring, and giving people. Tsk tsk.

  17. 17

"We think that would be what he wanted" - yeah, you were such good friends and all, of course you would know what he would have wanted. What a stupid thing to say!

  18. 18

*WE* think that's what he wanted? You were privy to his wishes? You are such an as*hole! I am certainly not against charitable contributions, and lord knows there are many of them that are truly doing good, but f he was passionate about a charity he would have made sure that is where his money went. As it is, it is a good idea, but WHO THE FVCK ARE YOU TO SAY THAT IS WHAT HE WOULD HAVE WANTED?

  19. 19

… and by the way, if the guy had so much green it's a real shame he didn't have something written down. Pretty stupid.

  20. 20

Poor guy, I'm glad his family aren't as greedy as the Jackson's.

  21. 21

hes irish, im pretty sure he wasnt married in england even if he lived there

  22. 22

It will be best if all the money goes to charity

    ****************************************
Listening to "Love me for a reason" as i type. Brings bak happy memories of when i was wee. Thankyou Stephen- R.I.P.

As the source article points out things are a great deal more complicated than you have posted. If he is declared intestate his partner will get their belongings, the first 200,000 pounds and then only half the remaining cash. His partner is independently wealthy so good on him declaring the money he receives will go to charity.

No will? Why not divide it fairly?

  25. 25

Might I just point out that when you say 'England recognises same-sex unions' what you actually mean is 'the United Kingdom recognises same-sex unions' - contrary to popular American belief, the United Kingdom is made up of Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England - NOT just England.
And you do not know what he would have wanted - you probably did not even know that he existed until he died in such tragic circumstances and gave you something to write about days after everybody else.

  26. 26

Hate to tel ya But He was Irish not English, and theres no Gay marriage in the South of Ireland!!!! So if he was married in England it'll be a Huge legal mess when it comes to any of his assets in Ireland

  27. 27

He looks like Ewing Mc Gregger. I'm pretty sure I spelt his name wrong. Sorry. Lol. R.I.P Stephen even though I don't know you.

  28. 28

Stephen was greatly involved with charities. Andy doens't need Stephen's money, he has enough of his own, he's said he's going to give a lot to Stephen's family and the rest to Stephen's favorite charities.
