SYTYCD Returning To Once-A-Year Format?

That would probably be best. It's dance overload on TV lately!
Nigel Lythgoe of So You Think You Can Dance reportedly told the studio audience on Wednesday that twice-yearly, back-to-back seasons of the show would be too much for the British judge and executive producer.
Traditionally the show only ran in the summer, but this year a fall version was aired as well which helped Fox's overall ratings.
A rep from Fox is downplaying Lythogoe's confession saying that scheduling decisions haven't been made yet presumably because Fox wants to keep the twice-a-year format to boost ratings.
It could go back to once-a-year for another reason with Simon Cowell's The X Factor potentially making its way to the US.

Never saw the show but the network's opinion works both ways. Continue to televise it twice a year to "strike while the iron is hot" or go to once a year keeping the fans waiting with an "absence makes the heart grow fonder theory". There are pros and cons to both sides of the argument.
YEY!!! I am from Canada so with 2 now a year in Canada and 2 in the US (which is my fav), it is almost impossible to keep up with who is who and all that. I actually haven't watched ANY since Janine won (in Can or US). OVERLOADED!
Once a year is best! I've watched every show, but adding this 6th fall show was overload….I watched a lot of season 6 on DVR and everyone was kind of busy, so we didn't have groups watching this time.
The network should beware of audience fatigue - I worry that the twice a year format might kill this show.
It was a little bit of an overload but love the show so hope they keep doing 2 seasons a year. Maybe next time they could spread the seasons out a little better instead of having the fall season start only a month after the summers finale?
I think its the worst show on television and barely needs to be on once a year.

Summertime only! I tried to watch the fall season, but just couldn't get into it. Plus the show is a huge time commitment. Do they really need to keep performance shows at 2 hours for the entire season? AND they need to change up choreographers. At this point the dances are all so familiar because we've seen the same choreographers churn out the same moves to different songs for a few years. Let us see something new!

I don't like it because of a few different reasons. 1. The anticipation of waiting for American Idol to end so SYTYCD to come on is no longer there. Now, this is the same as a Soap Opera type schedule. You just KNOW it'll be on. 2. The novelty of dance for those who aren't dancers is going to dissipate quickly if they keep showing SYTYCD. Unlike "Dancing with the Stars", "America's Best Dance Crew" and others, SYTYCD shows a variety of dance styles, but it felt like an honor or privilage to see them just that little bit of time every year. Now? Everyone will see it constantly and get bored quickly. American Idol has already ran out its welcome over the last several seasons, but they've done that through a long process of once a year timings. If they double SYTYCD, dancers like me will lose the one show that is truely dance-related to watch because the majority will get tired of it.
STICK WITH YOUR GUT NIGEL, GO BACK TO ONCE A YEAR!!

you know what? I used to LOVE the show but it's gone to shit so i stopped watching it.
Although I will watch this show regardless of when it comes on, I think they should go back to the once a year as well. It's just too much of an overload and right after the last season I think a lot of people just got burned of it. Idol did the same thing their first 2 seasons and realized it kept the audience wanting more when its only 1 time a year. I really look forward to it in the summer since the porgramming is usually such crap. This show is the best dancing show I have seen though. I miss Mia desperately, but I love Adam Shankman and the choreographer Sonya is quickly becoming my fave replacement. Her dances are wickedly cool and amazing…LOVE this show!

Once is perfect… overload is going to kill the show. I haven't been as "addicted" to the fall addition. For us in Canada, we get the summer SYTYCD and then ours, and then the fall addition..too much!!
I like SYTYCD very much but 1 a year is enough! I also watch DWTS's. While these 2 shows are different they each have wide appeal. More than once a year and I won't bother watching, I have a life…

I love the show so I was happy to see it run twice a year. Either way, I'll be watching. That show has helped me to understand and appreciate dance so much more. It's fantastic fun and I never get tired of it.
I hope so, I love this show but didnt bother watching this last one. just way to overloaded. same with Canada's way to close together, again didnt really watch. once a year would make it more exciting.

SYTYCD should only be on during the summer, because it really interferes with Fall shows on other networks. I'm sure FOX isn't worried about that, but viewers are. I ended up watching other shows and catching SYTYCD online.
