More People Annoyed By Jersey Shore

Oh, lighten up!
Actress Alyssa Milano is one of the many who are up in arms about MTV's latest reality show Jersey Shore, believing that it exploits the stereotype of Italian-Americans. She says:
"My husband actually showed me the trailer on YouTube last night, and I got upset. It upset me. I was like, "Turn that off!' So no, I don't think I'll be watching that!"
Jersey Shore cast member Nicole AKA Snooki addressed the controversy on The Wendy Williams Show, stating:
"The Italian, whatever, national, whatever their organization is, they don’t understand that 'guidos' and 'guidettes' are good-looking people that, you know, like to make a scene and be center of attention and just take care of themselves. They are old-fashioned.
They don't know that; they think it's offensive, because maybe in their time it was offensive, but now it's kind of a compliment. So they don't understand that and that is what we are trying to say. They are way overreacting to the show. We're 22 to 29 just having fun at the shore. They are just taking it way out of proportion."
While we could never put it as eloquently as you, Snooki, we tend to agree!
It's just more craptastic reality TV to fall in love with! Most Italian-Americans are much classier than the trash on Jersey Shore.
What do U think of the show?

LOVE IT!
if there was a show about black people called "Harlem" where they all filled in stereotypes like drinking kool aid and eating fried chicken, or a show called "China Town" where a bunch of asians were on calculators and got into car accidents, or a show called "The Bronx" with latinos mowing lawns and crossing borders, THOSE would NEVER be allowed on television! as they shouldnt because it is completely offensive and unfair. but because this is italians they are allowed to be as stereotypical as they want?? its really not right.
it's awful, but i'm still watching…
i'm amazed people like "snooki" actually exist. why do they all have nicknames?
People not afraid to be themselves…albeit how ridiculous they look! I like the show! I think Snooki will be a star!
I love it!!! The show is very over the top. I say as long as its Italians calling them selves those names let it be. Its the same way Black people fliped the N word!!!
Re: Ne – But "The Situation" is just ridiculous.
MORE DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA AS OTHER COUNTRIES PUSH THEIR CHILDREN TO DO SOMETHING WITH THEIR LIVES. WHY NOT DO A SHOW ABOUT A BUNCH OF HOT KIDS WHO ACTUALLY MAYBE I DON'T KNOW HELP SOCIETY , WELL I'M DONE RANTING AND AM IN THE MOOD FOR SOME WATER N HAM….
The show is also offensive to the real residents of the Jersey Shore. Hello!! We're not all party and clubhopping scumbags that trash the beaches. We actually pay taxes to live in this beautiful area and these bennies trash it. Go to www.bennygohome.com to learn more. I'm serious, I've lived in Point Pleasant for all 23 years of my life and we have to put up with these assholes every summer. At least you know what we go through. And the real residents are hardworking nice and friendly people.
Perez…You are WRONG!!!! Violence wrapped in any package is wrong. This kind of BS should not be allowed on any outlet. Why would you just say it is bad reality TV. Bad or Good reality TV with a violent foundation is WRONG. If we don't call it out for what it is, then we are jsut as repsonsible as those who did the act.
Come on the only thing that is offensive about this show is the complete and total morons on the show. This does not in anyway reflect the italian community. What this does and makes people aware of the train wrecks that are walking among us. I think we have more important things to worry about thne what Snooki is doing next. I personally find the show to be like a trainwreck that you can not take your eyes off of. Its fascinating the stupidity that exists in this world, not to mention how delusional people really are to think they are hot when come on the whole world knows you are really not at all.
I would not ordinarily comment on anything from this site, but I lived in Italy and know that 9/10 Italians were very offended by the guido term. For someone with an Italian heritage, I'd expect them to know that.
I haven't watched it, and I won't because people like that [think they're so good looking, allt they care about is look, and is all about the "good" time] annoy the f- outta me. But I saw the advertisements for it & I honestly think its no big deal. I didn't see anyone getting offended about Laguna Beach or The Hills.
This is a hilarious show. People get too serious about TV these days!
YOUR A DICK PEREZ CANT YOU GO DIE OR SOMETHING INSTEAD OF SPREADING SHIT ABOUT OTHER PEOPLES LIFES, NO-ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY ON ANYTHING. YOU HAVE A SHITTY JOB IF YOU CAN EVEN CALL IT A JOB.
Re: Ne – Quite frankly I've read comments by Perez saying that it's really not that bad also.
But if you went a step further, like the F word that I've listen to before from gay people, then this show would have been ripped and shredded by Perez.
Guido is no different than using Wop or Dago … it just sounds better for TV.
Most of American thinks people from Jersey are trashy anyway so who gives a crap. Jersey is the armpit of America.
i agree with vonneyd!!!!!!!
I am an avid reality show watcher, but this show scares the hell out of me.
Before becoming a new mother, I could have laughed this show off and
had fun taking the piss out of these skanks and tools. I would take comfort in knowing as a 33 year old woman, I most likely would not find myself in the presence of these animals, ever. As I look at my innocent little daughter, sleeping away next to me, the thought of her, by chance, ever crossing paths with these people, makes me want to lock her away or send her to a convent when she is 16. By the way, I am not religious by any means…
Places my daughter will NEVER be allowed to go on spring break:
1.)Jersey Shore
2.) South Padre Island
3.) Any place people "River Boat It" (Ugh, I could not think of anything more deplorable)
4.)Panama City, FL or lets just say anywhere in Florida (Miami, if done right)
5.) Tijuana
6.) Let me end the list here by saying anywhere a "Girls gone Wild"
video has been filmed.
This is the next generation people, aren't we in for a bright future.
Frightening…..
HAAAATTTEEEEEEEEE IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm part italian and my boyfriend moved here from italy about three years ago. we do not have skunked out hair, do not own any gel, and would never ever get a fake tan. stop making the younger generation of italians look bad!
i really think the show is just like any other reality show, yes they're italian but i don't see them as stupid italians just stupid people i don't see that entire ethnicity differently now, just those eight people like that. i LOVE the show and would be terribly upset if they took it off the air because it is hillariousss
OMG PPL need to get over this!! who cares!??!!! I love it! its funny! the guys are hott! its just a tv show. And i do not think it reflects the ppl who live in jersey in a bad way. LOVE IT!
"Most Italian-Americans are much classier than the trash on Jersey Shore."
Really? LOL!!!!!!!!
I find it offensive that MTV would make 'reality shows' based off of watching spoiled over privelged brats making total asses of themselves.
Every season of "Real World" had that person that was a real pain in the ass center of attention type. It looks like this show was filled with nothing but that type.
I tried to watch to see what all of the fuss was about and could not watch a full eps, because its so trashy on a human level period !
This is absurd. If you don't want to watch, don't watch. Every kind of person/ethnicity/sexuality has stereotypical portrayals of them in the media. Stereotypes exsist for a reason. Gay people had Jack on Will and Grace and we didn't complain. These are real people that are acting like this. Any thoughtful person will know not every Italian person is like that. Just like we know all housewives in Atlanta aren't that obnoxious and all gay people aren't like Jack. Calm down.
Re: Lizzie!RemixMe – WOW!!! Why are you a member of his site if perez is such a DICK??? u think he really cares what u are saying about him!? stupid
Originally from Staten Island and I am Italian…the show is sooo annoying and makes you cringe but that is every reality sow. They pick the most unstable of people to entertain you. They are just too stupid to realize they are being paraded around for a show and at the same time, yes, falling into stereotypes to embarrass the rest of us. I understand what she is saying about the "guido" thing. The same argument is made about the "n" word for African Americans who use it. BUT "guido" has not been accepted the same way, as of yet, anyway, and everytime it is used it does come out to be offensive except to those unfortunates who use it. I am 26. I like to have fun, too, but god, they don't get it. I am in Nashville now adn all the people here just think that is how Italians are up there because of these friggin shows, lol.
Re: Mayapapaya1 –
? yeah!
I fricken love the show. I even use, "Thats the situation right there" its so funny, and like wow! i can not believe there showing this on tv! I
Poor Alyssa being offended. Get over it after all it is only a tv show. Trying being black or Jewish. We are offended all the time on tv and in the movies. If anything itis offensive to the residence of the jersey shore.
this show is hilarious!! and everyone needs to chill the fuck out. i dont assume all italians act like this because of this show. why? because im not ignorant. and if you all realized that, there wouldn't be such a damn uproar over nothing. THESE certain people, italian or not, look like idiots. it has nothing to do with what nationality they are.
This show is hilarious. All you Italians are just mad because that's how you really are. My gf and I watch this show and she's 100% Italian. She don't give a shit. Get over it. If anything you are making this show more popular and now people who never watched the show are gonna be like "Oh shit I should check this show out see what the controversy is about!" I know people where I'm from that party 10x as hard, get in more fights, slam more bitches, etc. This show doesn't reflect Italian Americans, but the youth in America as a whole.
I want spagetti lol
@rhoda morgenstern - I like how you basically decide before your daughter is even grown up what she can/will do when she goes to college or whenever she decided she wants to do something fun. Let the young people live. JESUS!
Perez's site is lame all he does is trash celebs. come to www.quantumjones.com a site more than just about celebs. advice on sex, love, and everything inbetween.
And why the hell doesn't anyone complain about the real world?! I mean we got trannies, gays, blacks, mormons, and buncha white kids getting hammered and hooking up everyday. Where is the outcry against that?
I think the show is full of whores that think they r hot and a bunch of guys that are just big gigant tools
Trashtastic!
I will not watch this show, because it does feed into the stereotypes of Italian/Sicilian Americans and being Sicilian, I think it is not a show based on anything but exploitation. Perez, if there was a show about Cuban Americans portraying them as nothing but coke heads and murderers, I am sure you would be upset as well.
If 'Jersey Shore' were a product the label would read - Pump iron, get tanned, do hair, pop collar, go clubbing, get wasted, meet skank, punch other guido who looked at skank, get laid. REPEAT. Uhhh, yeaaaah - great show. Can't think of ANYTHING ELSE I'd rather watch…
If it wasn't an actual phenomenon, I could see her point. If they were exaggerating the whole thing, then I could agree. But this happens, it's been documented already and I think it's fair game to do a show about it. Whether anyone wants to watch a bunch of drunken idiots acting like assholes — not sure. I won't be watching
No one really had a problem with the Flavor of Love or Rock of Love stereotypes… I don't get why these eight people are going to get so much crap. We are judging them, not the Italians as a whole.. it's ridiculous. Love the Jersey Shore
I just don't understand the tans and the hair. How could they think that is good looking at all. The rest of it does not bother me one bit. They are young and partying big deal. They are pretty normal to me other than the hair and tans lol.
Re: wineaux –
Wineaux :you're a dumb bitch who has clearly never been to New Jersey if you think it's the armpit of America. Every state has shitty parts but most of New Jersey is beautiful so go suck one of the many dicks you probably get at a day.
I totally love the show!! I love the nicknames, especially "The Situation".
Re: VonneyD –
I totally agree. I am Italian and i am not flipping out but it is such a stereotype magnified. i do want to see Harlem and China Town, or Bible Thumpers…exploit all the stereo types on them…
These people aren't acting, or putting on a show. This is who they actually are. If they were actors, then it would be in poor taste. Every culture has dumbasses, like these losers. I don't interpret these people as representing Italians - they portray the Jersey Shore culture and happen to be Italian. I think the show is hilarious, and I don't see them as portraying Italians in a bad light. They're only making themselves look bad.
Actually, if anyone is to be offended, it's the people in the Jersey Shore, because it reflects badly on their culture.
Watching it, I wondered what these people wore before Ed Hardy??
Also, this show has further proven my stance that anyone who uses the word "classy" has little to no class (the thong hot tub comment).
OMG I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SHOW ENTITLED SAN FRANCISCO WHERE THEY PAINT GAY PEOPLE AS BUTCH LESBIANS A PROMISCUOUS TWINKS ALL LIVING IN A HOUSE, GETTING DRUNK DOING DRUGS AND HAVE WILD UNPROTECTED SEX. LET'S SEE WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY THEN. MY RESPONSE TO ANY OBJECTION TO A SHOW LIKE THAT IS: 'LIGHTEN UP!'
I don't see the "white trash american society" or the "american rock chick society" getting their knickers in a twist over Rock of Love — or how about Flavor of Love…? Not exactly portraying African Americans as the class acts of the century. Let's face it, trashy, classless folks come in all races and ethnicities. Stereotypes exist for a reason - to save us from having to get to know all 6 billion people on the planet individually. If these guidos & guidettes are willing to live the stereotype then Mtv is fully within their rights to broadcast it. In this case, hate the player not the game.
Re: tom951 – I agree. I don't know if it's because the Jewish community has a better sense of humour, but they constantly make fun of themselves, and no one gets offended.
Yeah I find it offensive. People who aren't Italian aren't really in a position to tell Italians not to be offended, just like I wouldn't tell a black person not to be offended by a grotesque portarayal of a black youth. And the term guido is as bad as wop/dego/guinea in my opinion. Its a shame that political correctness totally turns its back on Italians.
ok lets have a show with all black people leaving their kids by 8 different baby mommas and waving welfare check around the house to go buy the latest sneakers when their kids are starving..i think that would be a good show..they can call it N- Rich. How does that sound? It is the same fucking thing as Jersey Shore…stereotypes. And people from the south or middle amercia take that shit seriously. if my grandma were alive she would be fucking pissed
Re: KyClone11 – Yeah, Rock of Love makes all white girls look like trashy stripper skanks.
Snooky says "'guidettes' are good-looking people". Is it just me or is Snooky really a very fugly girl…I mean really….way ugly. She needs to get punched again.
Oh, and perez, you are a fat idiotic pedophile. How's that book doing? Hmmm, still dropping eh? #784 now….the more public signings you do, the worse your sales get HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Moron.
P.S I JUST WANTED TO SAY ALSO THAT THIS ISN'T A REPRESENTATION OF ITALIANS. ITS A REPRESENTATION OF ITALIAN-AMERICANS. PEOPLE WHO LIVE AND HAVE GROWN UP IN ITALY DO NOT BEHAVE THAT WAY. HELL THE MAJORITY OF NORMAL ITALIAN PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN AMERICA PROBABLY DON'T BEHAVE THAT WAY EITHER, BUT HELL, IT IS AMERICA AFTER ALL.
obsessed!!!
Re: Serena!!!COLON!!! You Twats! – Hilarious! BTW — I think before Ed Hardy they wore Guess and before that it was Jordache and Members Only.
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! THE MOST HILARIOUS ENTERTAINING SHOW IN AGES!
JERSEY GIRLS AREN'T TRASH!!!! — TRASH GETS PICKED UP!!
I think the show is great, kind of lame at times, but I like it… some of the guys are really hot, I'd nail the one with the spikie hair, I'd bend him over and have him take my cock up that overly taned ass of his.
look at all the black, mexican, white/redneck portrayals… them italians need to grow a FUCKING SKIN
You people make me sick if you think this is what normal kids do! There are episodes where they get into fights and are dragged away in handcuffs, and there's one episode where a guy slaps a girl across the face because she's arguing with him. Not all young people do that because it's childish, illegal and immoral. In fact, not all young people get trashed and do drugs. Some people, by the time they're in their twenties like these people, have univeristy degrees, children of their own to look after, a mortgage to pay off, sick parents to care for and a 9 to 5 job or career. The problem is not the negative portrayal of Italian-Americans, but the normalization and even glorification of drug abuse and violence of any kind. If people in the real world get arrested, they get a criminal record which makes it harder for them to get a job. Try filling out a job application that doesn't indirectly ask you if you have a criminal record! In the real world, all these people would be losers, not TV stars talked about on HLN or in Hollywood. By the way, one guy is 29 and way too old to be considered a kid.
REALITY IS ON ITS WAY OUT … THANK YOU MODERN FAMILY FOR BRINGING TV BACK
The guy with tattoos needs to get laser treatments pronto!!!
UGH! I totally agree. Italians are always portrayed by that trashy New-York-area stereotype "white trash" way on tv ALL the time! It's SO annoying. not every Italian is some low-class trashy orange-tanned guido with bad taste and they're not all mafia wannabes!!
alyssa is just bitter that she's a middle aged hag and does not look as good as sammy sweetheart
oh please this is just a freaking show, freaking! if anyone actually believes this represents all italians and all of new jersey, they are ignorant idiots!! please! its MTV For entertainments sake!!!
Re: VonneyD – sorry but your comparisons are pretty funny.
I am Italian myself and I really only saw about 15 mins of this show but it was hilarious. It's not like MTV is making these people act this way, it's how they really are so it shouldn't offend anyone who is Italian. People to lighten up. It's just another guilty pleasure show to watch in hiding when no one is around and escape from actual reality for a bit. It's all in good fun. And I don't get the comparison to what if it was a black show. So what. If it was and that's what those particular people were doing like eating chicken or whatever then it's just their way of life. Sorry but stereotypes actually do exist!
Re: jewel11786 – whoa there is really a site! ha!!! i usually go to point pleasant but seaside is ok for the boardwalk…benny go home! i never even heard of the term bennys before..ha! until i read these comments….im from new jersey but the part next to pa anyways….yeah!
I am not a fan of the show, i think that reality tv is taking things too far. I strongly dislike stereotpyes. i agree with Vonney D completely. i also believe that every race has the down casts like black people- ghetto people, Hispanic people- immigrants/Mexicans, white people- trailer trash, now Italians have guidos.
I don't believe this is how these people really act either. It's reality TV and bound to be staged. Regular people won't make them any money.
i'm italian and i'm not really a touchy person perhaps because, when i see theese american stereotypes, i never can see anything familiar.
if the italian-americans are even in part like this probably it's a bad effect of the american influence
Haha, I absolutely love Jersey Shore. It's so trashy, and trashy equals entertaining. Loves it!!
Poeple work so hard to be offended. Get over yourselves.
why is alyssa milano offended what if she was asked to do a rold of a "guidette" im sure she would do it didnt she play amy fisher???
Re: VonneyD – Yet then again, there are shows like Laguna Beach that project stereotypical views of white people - so it isn't just the italians m'dear. Stereotypes are everywhere, I think some people are too uptight. It's a show for entertainment purposes, don't like it - change the channel.
Reality? Hahahahahahahahaha
Perez, I doubt you would feel that way if they made a show called like El Paso, LA or Pilsen (chicago) and showed a bunch of hispanic youths eating burritos, driving around in low riders, shanking people on the street and getting girls pregnant. You were just named Hispanic of the year, I would have thought your racial tolerance would be reflected in your blog, but I guess not. Italian American's are a diverse population and the stereotyping MTV perpetuates is not only disgusting, but down right unAmerican. I refuse to watch this show! All those 'people' who are starring in this lame excuse for media fodder, are a laughing stock. Being on TV doesn't make you important, it just means your life is so ridiculous they want to put it on TV so the rest of us can feel good about ourselves. I am the same age as the assholes on this show and I am in my 4th year of college! Any one can get famous by being a dumb slut/douche bag (Just look at Heidi and Spencer). You can be young, have fun and not make a mockery of an entire ethnic group. Its possible. It's a lot harder to get an education, be a decent human being, and help further racial and ethnic tolerance in America!!!!!!! but we don't see kids like that on TV do we??? what are we teaching our children!
Combine the Jersey Shore and the Housewives of New Jersery and you have must see t.v! I'm just waiting for another table turning event! Better yet have the Gotti family move in!
Are you actually telling someone to lighten up, Perez? You are the biggest hypocrite on the web. If someone dares to question or have an opinion contrary to your's on GAYS, you are horrified, obnoxious and insulting. Guess what???? There is no right Not to be offended. So, if you want people to lighten up, why don't YOU start by not taking yourself and your identity so seriously!!!
i watch the show.
ppl def need to lighten up!
No one thinks all Italians are like the Jersey Shore kids. The Italians bitching about the show are racist themselves thinking everyone else is stupid enough to assume 8 kids represent how all Italians act. White people weren't complaining when The Hills aired, assuming all Italians would think every white girl was a spoiled little superficial bitch. The people complaining make Italians look worse than the Jersey Shore kids.
50 bucks says the cast of Jersey Shore have commented on this posting. 50 fucking dollars. I refuse to believe that there are people in this world who would actually defend this show, no matter their race or ethnicity!!!!!! God damn it, i hate this shit!! GO TO SCHOOL, CURE AIDS OR CANCER, QUIT TRYING TO BE FAMOUS, this goes for everyone. Reality fame is so fleeting! but being smart and caring are qualities no one can ever take away form you!!!!! Where were their mothers, what were they taught? Why is this the America we live in? This isn't right people! its not right!!!! We used to be the most powerful nation on the face of the planet, now we are reduced to the guidos of Jersey Shore….. this is how the world sees us and
ITS…NOT….FUCKING….FAIR!!!!!
What happened to - if you don't like it or are offended by it - do NOT watch it!!
What is with too many Americans demanding other Americans watch what they want you to watch, act & do what they want you to??
get over it..all reality shows show basic stereotypes so why should this one be any different?
Re: wineaux – Have you even been to New Jersey? It's actually a quite beautiful state, offering everything from the countryside to beaches to close access of New York City…BE JEALOUS. Most of the people who are the on the show aren't even from New Jersey anyway, so they don't accurately represent the majority of the Jersey population who HATES "guidos" and "guidettes." And honestly, calling people from Jersey trash is like the pot calling the kettle black, because judging from your nasty attitude you're not so classy yourself. Good day
I am an Italian American from NJ and this show is disgusting. It's not just making a mockery of my culture and state, but it's making a mockery of all Americans. The word guido is NOT a compliment, it's an insult. If we aren't portrayed as mobsters then we are portrayed as complete douchebags. Also, the nasty comments made about NJ just simply means that u know nothing about the state. That we have beaches, mountains, and farms. That we were a major factor in the industrial revolution. How about that the state of NJ has some of the highest if not THE highest amount of students, who graduate h.s. and then who go on and graduate college? Also, that a few years ago it was stated that my county (Bergen), was the richest county in the U.S.
What all of this boils down to is that people like to make judgements on others based on gender, ethnicity, race, age, religion, sexual orientation, and origin of birth when they don't know a damn thing about any of it
I refuse to watch that trash. That is what it is plain and simple. I am from NJ and am part Italian and its a complete exaggeration of what the Jersey Shore is actually like. MOST OF THE CAST IS NOT EVEN FROM NJ!! They are all from the hell hole Staten Island. I find the show completely offensive and a glorification of a lifestyle that is far from respectable. But what can you expect from a network that glorifies teen pregnancy as well.
My daughter, a NJ resident, is a member of a national organization that involves meeting people throughout the country. She is subjected to comments about being from NJ because she and her friends are judged by the Housewives of NJ, and now, Jersey Shore. Those of you who think NJ is an armpit - HAVE YOU EVER BEEN HERE??? This is what sucks about this show - Italian or not, NJ people are quite intelligent and diversified and not at all like the trash that TV likes to portray us. That, to me, is what makes this show so offensive. It can't end soon enough!
Haven't seen it, don't plan on it - but - you know I felt like the Real Housewives of New Jersey was kinda exploitative and I'm not even Italian! Where were all these people complaining then?? I think that maybe bc it's on MTV it's causing problems. idk. Like I said, not planning on watching it.
Re: thesituation –
Oh you must have partied at one of the spots I mentioned while you where in college. Its ok, we all grow up….
I have decided however, to not let her hang out with tramps, that is being a bad Mother? We see how you feel when you become a parent.
Stereotypes are not made up from nothing, they start because of the behaviour of groups of people, they might be exaggerated but the element of truth is there. But I can understand Italians who don't act like these turds on the Jersey Shore don't want to be lumped in with them.
I was incredibly offended by the low-life womanhater and would not watch again.
Perez….condoning any kind of violence is WRONG!!!!
Re: FemaleFilmMajor – You're getting worked up over nothing. Calm down.
I'm Italian. How is the show offensive? If there are Italians that act like that, why do we have to pretend that they don't exist in order to avoid stereotypes?
Jersey Shore shows the rest of the world exactly why the US is going through the shit storm it's currently in. It's because of people like those on Jersey Shore that the once mighty and respected US has turned into the world's punch line.
it's a compliment? How is being portrayed like a sleazy, tanned, drunk, moron a compliment?! That girl should not be representing Italian-Americans. GET RID OF THE SHOW
If guidos and guidettes are "good-looking people", I'm switching to uggos. Those people are hideous.
