More People Annoyed By Jersey Shore
Oh, lighten up!
Actress Alyssa Milano is one of the many who are up in arms about MTV's latest reality show Jersey Shore, believing that it exploits the stereotype of Italian-Americans. She says:
"My husband actually showed me the trailer on YouTube last night, and I got upset. It upset me. I was like, "Turn that off!' So no, I don't think I'll be watching that!"
Jersey Shore cast member Nicole AKA Snooki addressed the controversy on The Wendy Williams Show, stating:
"The Italian, whatever, national, whatever their organization is, they don’t understand that 'guidos' and 'guidettes' are good-looking people that, you know, like to make a scene and be center of attention and just take care of themselves. They are old-fashioned.
They don't know that; they think it's offensive, because maybe in their time it was offensive, but now it's kind of a compliment. So they don't understand that and that is what we are trying to say. They are way overreacting to the show. We're 22 to 29 just having fun at the shore. They are just taking it way out of proportion."
While we could never put it as eloquently as you, Snooki, we tend to agree!
It's just more craptastic reality TV to fall in love with! Most Italian-Americans are much classier than the trash on Jersey Shore.

hey I lived in Italy for 3 years and I love the people there…but that's cause I met only the classy people maybe some of them are like in Jersey shore….But not all of them… that's why they are all so offended!!!

i agree with VonneyD. But the show is one of many that is full of crap..(funny interesting crap) people just need to learn to laugh things off once in a while. The show isn't serious..that what people need to get through their minds. Just like "Real World", "Love of Ray-J", and all the stupid shows that pile up our life and time. get over it.if you don't like it down watch it. You don't have to put your negative two cents into it!
Haha Please dont come to the Jersey shore. I just think it doesnt repersent anyone on the shore. Where are the surfers skaters, metal heads, hippies. The show should be called SI invades the Shore. It doesnt bother me if people get turned off by it hopefully they wont come here! Oh i have to say the spiked hair and super shaved eyebrow look is in! Thoses dudes look like trannies.

Italians are not the same as Italian-Americans.
I am Italian American and just am not that offended by the show. I do find the word Guido offensive but if they are embracing it themselves that is their choice. The show makes clear that only one of the eight cast members is from NJ, that they choose to vacation on the Jersey Shore is their right so the people from NJ should just shut their mouths.
It is just a "reality" show and quite frankly like many on these shows they are more the subject of ridicule than admiration. Italian Americans are in no way the put upon and abused minority, that they were many years ago. We are governors, senators, presidential candidates, and supreme court justices today.
Lastly when I was in my teens and twenties, I did put too much gel in my hair, I went to get tanned in salons, I lifted weights, wore too much cologne, etc. I am glad nobody filmed me in those days but now that I am a grown man I would gladly have my life filmed (though it would be boring as hell I suspect) today, as the man I have become.
first of all.. the jersey shore is NOTHING like this show! it's really a bad interpretation of the jersey shore… anyone who lives here knows that seaside is nothing but a bunch of BENNY's who come from up north jersey or new york, and cause nothing but problems, we laugh and make fun of these tools who come here in sandals & socks and all their luxury cars. they suck, and so does MTV for making such a stupid ass show. everyone who lives on the jersey shore knows this show is ridiculous.. and i would love for these complete TOOLS to come down here this summer! ABSOLUTE TRASH!!!!!!!!!!

im italian and from new jersey and this show absoutly disgusts me. i have never seen anyone who ACTUALLY LIVES in new jersey with 3 bottles of gel in their hair, poofs to the ceiling, and orange tans. we dont even have accents like that. the people on this show are from staten island and migrate to new jersey every summer giving us a bad name. they dont represent jersey, they just contribute to the bad image of the jersey shore. this show also takes place in one of the sketchiest beaches in jersey. people who live here know not to go to seaside because thats where all the people like "snookie" and "the situation" go. wanna make a show about jersey? try filming people who actually live here in one of our many nice beaches, like LBI or Lavalette. this show is a horrible representation of jersey and italians and is an absolute joke.

I think people are taking this show wayy too seriously. Its entertainment tv get over it! If u got a problem change the channel its that simple. The cast of Jersey Shore does not represent the whole Italian community and if people want to see it that way then its their ignorance, instead of getting involved in political debates people like Alyssa Milano chose to comment on something more understandable such as reality t.v. Yea Alyssa Milanos one to talk she was in a movie where she was involved with the Italian Mob, you dont see us accusing her of associating all Italians with crime mobs. C'mon

What "snooki", who happens to look more like an oompa loompa than an actual attractive italian lady, or "guidette", fails to understand is that being guido or a guidette is a gender role play of italian men and women, so of course it's going to offend a lot of italians who are embarassed of people of their nationality trying to represent themselves as over the top tanned attention craving obnoxious beings.
I can't believe that this is what TV has become. No wonder the masses are getting stupider every day. I have to admit, when I watched, I was amused, but to think about the shows that were on tv when I was younger (I was born in the 80's) to this type of show now— its really sad that this is what people consider "entertainment."
Snooki must have a very thick, dense head. She doesn't seem to understand that 'guido' is a stereotype and it's very offensive to our culture which is practically an insult. The young people need to take it seriously with school and a future to make a better society. But these "Italians" are not only offending the heritage but are influencing teenagers to do this.

Um…the show makes all the people involved in it come off as idiots, but clearly it's a hit among the younger crowd. I personally "wathched" the first episode (I was cleaning the house while it was on) and I found it cridge-worthy but fun! I don't like the message that it sends across (that's it's ok/fun to hook up with random people like that, or be as slutty like the girls there have been - no matter where you come from) but after watching the third episode I realized that maybe it may make some people may realize that there are consequences to everything. I don't care that they're Italian-American! I'm Russian-Amerian, and many girls/guys from Brooklyn act and look very similar to them!
I watched the show for about 15 minutes before I realized that is just another scripted MTV reality show. I am an Italian-American from Brooklyn NY and I am offended by the way my heritage is being depicted on television. People do not realize that if it wasn't for italians many of the inventions today wouldn't exist, some of the best art and fashion would not exist. I agree with the others who state that other nationalities definately would not tolerate a show that dumbs down their heritage. Al Sharpton would have a show about african americans that was about fried chicken and kool-aid thrown off the air before the second episode was able to air.

If you're Italian American and you don't act like a Guido, people won't call you one. I'm Italian American and reserve that word for a certain type of people who love tanning, hair gel, excessive makeup and techno. Those kids using the word Guido does not matter because they are Guidos. Not all Italian Americans are Guidos and people don't assume that we are if we don't act in the over-the-top manner that Guidos do.

I'm sorry is Alyssa Milano even from NJ? Or even been to Seaside Heights? No! Shocking, if she had been there then she would know what it's really like in Seaside and the show is an accurate portrayal. Anyone who is from Jersey knows that seaside is full of fist pumping juiceheads and fake n" bake guidettes and teenagers for after prom. Any if they have any sense do not go to that beach. Being from NJ it makes me angry we already get a bad enough rep as it is.
Trash is found in every state in every zipcode in every ethnic group. So are people with class.

IF the shoe fits. There are alot of Italian Americans in the Phila-South Jersey area who are just like the kids on this show. That's why it's hilarious. They don't represent all Italians. I have met classy Italians. The Italians from Italy are extremely sexy and classy. I love their accent compared to the ones that are from Joisey/Philly. If you don't like it, don't watch it but I predict huge ratings. The truth hurts and it's funny as hell.
It's more offensive to New Jersey. People there aren't like this group. Most on the show are from out of town!

I watched a few shows and its a flamming mess. And I love it. Its entertaining. Almost all reality shows has whoreing white chicks. Everytime you watch Jerry Springer you see a trailer park mess. But are all white people like that? No and we know that. Just lighten up.

Re: jewel11786 – I really thought I was correct in stating only 1 was from Staten Island as I thought I paid attention to the show but I was wrong, as are you. 3 (a majority) are from S.I. but the rest are from The Bronx, Marlboro NY, Franklin NY, Rhode Island, and Hazlet NJ.
My point overall point is MTV is in no way trying to deceive people into believing these people are NJ residents.
They are on the Jersey shore so the title of the show is accurate even if it is not representative of the NJ shore communities. I am sure you would agree these people have every right to enjoy any vacation destination even the ones south of where they are presently, as long as they pay the bills, obey the laws, and when they break the laws take the punishment as put down by law and order officials.
Everyone does need to lighten up. If someone watches this show and assumes all Italian-Americans are like these idiots, then they're even dumber than the people on the show.
I don't watch Flavor of Love and assume all African Americans are like the girls on the show, or watch the Hills and assume everyone from California is a dumb, self-absorbed, fame whore who's living off daddy.
