Remembering Mermaid Girl
We'll admit it - we got a little teary-eyed watching this video!
Shiloh Pepin, better known to the public as Mermaid Girl, passed away last October, and TLC will be airing their final documentary about Pepin on Sunday.
Mermaid Girl: The Last Six Months follows Shiloh and her family through her truly inspiring final months before her death.
Check out the heart-wrenching trailer from TLC above.
Thoughts????

What a sweetie am sure her parents miss her a lot. May she rest in peace.
Probably one of your best posts. This little angel is a true inspiration and blessed the lives of all who knew her.
So so sad
She was so sweet and strong! Such an inspiration…
MAn
R.I.P little angel.
not "celebrity juice, not from concentrate", but it did warm my cold, cold heart a little.
10 years old, a challenging life cut far too short.
awww i knew she was gonna die good thing she aint in this shitty world no more and could swim whenever she wants! =]
My heart aches for her family. I admire their strengh! Now I have to go fix my make-up!
Bless her little heart…She was so adorable and happy…truly an angel
aww poor little soul…
If that was my little sister I wouldn't be able to go on. Call me an idiot, but I thought they separated her legs =/
Old news - who is paying you to promote the show?
Re: residentevil808 – Yes, but I also bet she's RUNNING too!
I don't understand you Libs…isn't she the reason you love abortion? You'all thought Trig should have been aborted by Sarah Palin. I know, you love this little angel because she's close to being a dolphin…they have more status than humans do.
Cherish the children.
Rip little one.
Prayers of strength to her family.
Very sad–my heart goes out to her family. Shiloh was such a little fighter-she never gave up hope.
Bless this little soul and her family. I hope for just one moment, you had a small regret, for all the abortions you girls have done for convenience.
Shiloh lived locally and she (and her family) were a true inspiration to us in the NH/ME area. She really is missed. My thoughts go out to her family. Her sprit lives on
that mother knew she was like that and still had the baby. What a horrid life this kid had.
I blame the mother for this!
She should have had an abortion. I'm the only truth teller.
Re: luvstotango –
She should have had an abortion. 100%
Re: luvstotango – Oh yeah and women just LOVE getting an abortion you idiot!!!! What kind of freak are you to think abortion is ever a convenience thing. BTW, how many children have you adopted with this warm and loving attitude of yours? I'll assume you are anti-war too or do 18 year old not count as human, just fetuses.
Re: niffernh –
The mom should not be admired.
Some people are so heartless on here it's sick
Rip Shiloh
Re: AnneLee – Actually she decided that she didn't want the surgery, they left it up to her.
awww I loved her she was so sweet i would always follow her documentaries
know nothing about her story, but I pay my respects to everyone, and lets just remember shes playing in the clouds with angels and there is lots of candy
R.I.P
she loved life, she never complained and understood everyone was diffrent.
she was a little angel but now shes in heavan with God.
Re: luvstotango –
No regrets if this is the child that would be born.
So sad! RIP Shiloh.
This is so sad! I had no idea she passed away.
R.I.P xoxo
What a selfish family. The mom said she had regrets bringing her into the world too.
Well she only thought of herself and not the child.
Disgusting mom!
Re: luvstotango – Abortion was never considered a convenience! I personally disagree with your comment … because NO girl wants to get an abortion unless if the circumstances benefit the unborn child from getting hurt in any way.
I can only imagine now how silent the parents world is now. It always saddens me when someone leaves your life how quiet it is. My heart goes out to her parents.
I remember i saw the documentary and it was so heart braking but at the same time it was inspiring shiloh lived a good life cause her parents loved her and she enjoyed the short time she had on this place
may she rest in peace
The kid was a loudmouth brat!
OMG IM IN TEARS….. I REMEMBER WATCHING HER SHOW….. RIP LITTLE ANGEL…… WHAT HAPPEN HOW DID SHE PASS AWAY??? :'(
Re: PinkSnake –
i hope you feel like a big person saying that about a dead child with a disability.
RIP.
What an amazing child. May God bless her and keep her.
a little girl dies and all you can do it fight with each other? my goodness. let it be! R.I.P. Shiloh. you were a strong little girl.
Re: luvstotango – You should be the poster boy for abortion rights.
Re: PixiePeet –
You are horrid disgusting. Each and every child has a purpose in life. Maybe your mother should have aborted you! Skank.
Re: PixiePeet –
Why not you FREAK. I just want to reach out and throttle you. This little girl brought life and inspiration to so many. Obviously she didn't touch your cold heartless body. I'm sad for you.
Awh, she was such a sweetheart.
Re: PinkSnake –
Oh F off. You should have been aborted you carless unfeeling human being.
Re: PinkSnake –
And you know this how? People like you make me sick and you're probably some pedophile maniac!
Re: PixiePeet – I think if you asked Shiloh what she thought of her life and the time she spent here, Im willing to bet she would not say it was horrid. She had a tough life, yes, but she was a happy child who cherished life.
This child should have NEVER been born.
Abort!
Abort!
Abort!
Re: NIkKO1 – She came down with a cold that turned into pneumonia. She just couldn't fight it off, and passed away after about a week (not sure of the exact time) in the hospital.
RIP Angel Shiloh ()=)
Awww man! That's so sweet!
it's so sad and heartbreaking
Oh my word that was heart wrenching. What a beautiful child!
OMG THIS GIRL LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE PEREZ HILTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG THIS GIRL LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE PEREZ HILTON!!!!!!!!!!!!
R.I.P baby girl! You were an inspiration. Thank you for everything you left us! ❤
THIS GIRL was SO precious. I saw a documentary on her. Very intelligent (extremely so) and the sweetest little girl. At the end of the doc, when they said she had passed away I felt very bad for hours afterwards.
some of you people are soulless heartless monsters she was a happy child RIP
oh my god got me teary eyed!
what an angel!
Aww, how sad!! Poor little girl. She was an angel.
Rip, Shiloh Pepin.
she was very smart for a 10 year old… adorable little girl with a big personality.
Re: PixiePeet – I agree
Re: PixiePeet – I agree with you about the abortion thing, however, instead of mermaid girl, YOUR mom should have had an abortion.
Just because she is different physically, but her mind is fine, you think she should have an abortion? you are a disgrace. She has touched many lives and probably made some sort of difference in someones life. SO how boutcha shutty, and think before you speak…. you sound so stupid.
so sad thank you perez for actually giving her a nice post
Re: PixiePeet – By the way, describing her life as HORRID, is ridiculous…. maybe a child in Africa whose parents have been brutally murdered and the kid raped every day…. that's HORRID.. this little girl was happy and bright and had a positive outlook and KNEW that her chances of living very long were SLIM…..
are you Hitler or something? No one is perfect….
It's been my experience that whatever medical condition children are born with they more than make up for in their indomitable spirit, spunk, and zest for life. It is humbling to work with these children and it truly makes our problems seem trivial. I hope that Shiloh's parents will find some comfort in their happy memories of their daughter and by how much she inspired others. Rest in peace, Shiloh. You will be remembered.
Omg, I'm bawling.
She was such a cutie, I remember when I first watched her special on TLC a while ago..cried my eyes out because I saw how she was such a spunky little girl with such a challenging life but was still so full of life and happiness. Shes a true inspiration. Rest in Peace hun.
just an all around nice little kid….its a shame her life was cut so short!!!! Rest in peace honey!!!!
Oh geez…I teared up
Bless her may she rest in peace in the lords arms god bless her! xxxxx
I loved her so much! This show is super touching. So balsy that little one.
Re: luvstotango –
Way to ruin a perfectly heart-wrenching moment with your conservative agenda.
I was so sad to hear about her death!! I'm not sure if anything I could ever say would make things better for her parents, but I hope they come through this stronger than ever and keep the memory of their daughter alive!!
We could all take a cue from Shiloh and live life to it's fullest being happy and appreciating everything we have in life.
May she rest in peace. She's a true inspiration.
Re: PixiePeet – I seriously think you have problems
Re: PinkSnake –
You have a point. I saw this documentary and the parents are obese, indulgent infantile people in dyer need of serious therapy. And I'm sure the doc. painted them in the best light. They probably should have no kids at all let alone one with special needs (to say the least)
That poor child never had a chance-REALLY-and was put through hell because the mother was selfish.
No child should ever be brought into the world just to suffer.
Re: PixiePeet – why? Just because she was told her child wouldnt be like every other kid? wouldnt be "perfect"? She should just rid away with it? You are a disgusting person. To think that anyone that doesnt look the way they "should" isnt worth the life they have is absolutely despicable ..actually morals and thoughts shared by greats like hitler..so congrats, your right up there with the best. Ass.
Re: supersongbird –
Pnksnake has a point? Now I know why it's called a snake! How do you know this precious child suffered? We all suffer at some point. Does that give you a right to judge or wish everyone dead? Oh liberal right wing idiots like you and snake make me ill.
I watched the TLC specials about Mermaid Girl. And I remember that when doctors presented her and her family with the opportunity to surgically separate her legs, her Mom and Dad let Shiloh make the ultimate decision. At her young age. And she cried and pleaded that she did NOT want any operation which would make her normal. So her parents went along with her decision. I dare say she loved being special.
Sad that she died but leave it to TLC to capitalize on her death to it's utmost.
And following the Mermaid Girl death special, one hour of newly-found footage from Jon & Khate. The Learning Channel?? I'm not really learning anything of value….
damn…RIP sweetie.
This so sad. I never followed her documentaries, but she really has touched me. Despite her condition, she lived with such a great attitude. She is an inspiration. RIP.
This was so sad =( that little girl had such spunk and heart and I know she will be missed by all who knew her.
But to everyone who keeps arguing about whether or not she should have been aborted, all I have to say is it wasn't your decision. The mother did what she thought was the right thing to do and she got to spend 10 great years getting to know her wonderful little girl. However, I don't think that the people who are saying she should have been aborted are necessarily being cold-hearted, it's just that children who are diagnosed with rare deformities like these don't usually have a good chance at survival, so some mothers might choose to get an abortion to spare the child pain in his or her life. When it comes down to it, it's the mothers choice, so I don't really feel that it's appropriate to be discussing that matter, particularly when the child has just passed away.
Re: King Hendrix – i know. she was extremely intelligent. she was spoiled, yes, but overall a wonderful kid. rip.
She was a little angel.
She seemed much more mature than 10 years old! Spoke more like an adult. The good do die young. But angels come to the earth for just a short time. Some of us are lucky enough to meet them.
may have been a short time- but she did what everyone should do, live life to the fullest - just glad she did
Re: PixiePeet – Wow I could only imagine what kind of family you grew up with.I feel sorry for you.
rest in peace sweet girl! a true inspiration
Gross.
Re: SWEETPIECE! – Still no life, Sweetpiece. Tsk. Tsk. This little "mermaid" girl looks more like a manatee girl. That's dugong, down under.
Looks like she never went hungry.
Wonder what her Hoohah looked like……
They should have split her legs apart when she was too young to make the Narcisstic decision to remain the center of attention.
LOL. Manatee Girl.
This is so heartbreaking! This little girl was so beautiful and such an inspiration. She was strong and lived her life. She knew that beauty and talent is on the inside. She truley was a blessing from God. My thoughts and prayers will stay with this little girl forever.
Re: PrinceD – Girl-boy, you have got to be the absolute nelly-nanciest gay quasi-black boy I have ever met. Or are you a big gal
masquerading as a bright-skinned gay boy?
What an amazing person. I feel we have all been blessed by being able to watch her on tv and experience her beautiful spirit. She was an angel on earth.
Re: Lucas –
Listen, none of us can say what that poor child "would have wanted"
All I can do is put myself in that position.
I would not want to live that short, frustrating and painful life if it were me.
And if I were the mother and confronted with the fact that my child would be critically and most likely morbidly disabled, a life filled with pain then I would opt for an abortion. I guess it comes down to pro-life and pro-choice. That would be MY choice-sorry.
Some of these people are being really crude but they are just being honest.
Re: Lucas – Re: Lucas –
P.S. I am not a "liberal" so calm down Archie Bunker.
Pink Snake- you are an A.Hole. Shiloh was a happy child and she was loved and she loved in return. I think maybe you are a unhappy person and also a racist. You think if a child is not perfect that it should just be exterminated like a bug. You are one sick SOB.
I watch her documentary and the follow up of Shiloh and a few others that have been shown. Shiloh had already passed away when the followup was aired so I'm glad they are doing this one. She was a true fighter and loved life.
Re: Lucas –
…and certainly not RIGHT wing. That'd be you oh ignorant one!
Re: PixiePeet –
I agree with you. The whole thing is outrageous!
I just watched her on Oprah, last night. How terrible…
I remember reading that little Shiloh had passed. I cried so hard. I had hope for this young girl. May her happy, free soul rest in peace.
