A Princess Is Crowned At The Box Office

Albeit, not by much and in nowhere near the standings of animated flicks that have come before it.
The #1 spot at the box office this weekend was held by Disney's The Princess and The Frog, which grossed $25 million in three days. It would be a fairly decent showing, if it weren't a Disney film. Consider that Up made upwards of $68.1 million last May and some crappy rodent romp called G-Force made $31.7 million last July - it really doesn't show that much enthusiasm for the new Princess.
Still, she beat out Hollywood's princess, Sandra Bullock, who came in 2nd this week with The Blind Side as well as gave Clint Eastwood's Oscar contender flick, Invictus, no room to budge ahead from his #3 standing.
There's always next weekend Clint!

I SEE BLACK PEOPLE EVERYWHERE NOW! IN CARTOONS ALL OVER COMMERCIALS ! IN DISNEY MOVIES !THEY ARE TAKING OVER THE WORLD!
I had to sit thru it and it was excrutiating.Black people cannot be pleased witht the stereo types. That "bug" creature is the Steppin' Fetchit (look him up) of this generation.
It will become another JarJarBinks, a cringe worthy character that burdens the movie.
I wanna see that movie!
Re: bitchgetoffme – Dayum skippy! Bwahahahahaha…
I bet it would have made more money if the princess was white. White people didn't want to take their children to see a black princess and support the movie, but we have to take our black children to see their white princess. Fuck you white people's double standard…assholes.
I wants to see that movie, although I have no kids lol. But its history being made. Perez this is a movie for little girls. Those other movies you mentioned are for the whole fam. Bitchgetoffme where are you from? Black and white have been leading and runing everything for years now. If you said Asians then I would have agreed.
The movie was GREAT!!! I hope Disney and all the other ignorant people in the world realize the need for DIVERSITY!! I am happy that it came out when it did. I have a 3 year old and I am far from racist but I am glad that she now has a princess to look up to that has similar features. She is impressionable and recently said something about being white. I shut that down quickly and explained to her how being African American is a BEAUTIFUL thing!!! I am glad sooo many people supported it and hope Disney and other children movie makers realize the need not only for a African American Princess, but maybe an Asian or Mexican or any nationality except the"norm"!!!!
Re: CandyAppleRed – you's a black nurse maid, aint ya?
I went to see it and I am WHITE baby! I had the best jack off in years and shot my jizz all over the theatre… man it felt good
Well no one can blame the numbers on Disney! I have been seeing previews for this movie for months! I asked my 3 year old if she wanted to see it, nd she said no. So I guess I don't get to see it!
blah blah blah, perez. YAY FOR PRINCESS AND THE FROG
i wanna go see it,it looks cute and i dont give a damn if white people dont wanna see it there just doin what they typically do…
the resaon this movie will be gone in 3 weeks is that disney is trying to ram this crap down people's throat. how come if you have a "white" movie, there are always blacks in it, where as a movie can be all black?? and this one is just dumb. I myself would not see it, and it has nothing to do with black people. it has to do with the fact that I live in south Louisiana, and am tired of these types of movies GETTING IT WRONG. we do not talk, act, walk, sing, row our pirouts to the store, live with singing "gators", or any of the other stupidity that is always shown as "Cajun country". plus, I mean come on. who will pay to watch a jig a boo princess??
Re: SHAQRIYAH – "except the norm"?? you racist fuck. fuck you and your little porch monkey. sge asked you about being white, but you "shut that down quickly"??? I bet you did. being black is beautiful, huh?? bet you got straight "white" hair, don't you?? fake nails too. soooo proud to be black, just don't want no nappy afro. fuck you.
i saw it it was ok .. the songs sucked ballz. it was all jazzy crap nothing like normal disney cartoons.
spoilers
at least someone dies in it lol
i think we're all overlooking the obvious reason for the less than perfect sales– it's holiday season in a recession. Up was a summer movie that parents took their children to see on rainy days. i have two white children that i cannot wait to take to see this movie! i myself have been dying to see it, since it's the first animated classic in a long time; i just don't have the money. i don't think that anyone that has kids that wanted to see a disney movie would tell them they couldn't go because the princess was black…let's be real. they probably just don't have the money.
I went to see it and took my little sisters. It is a great movie. Wish it wasnt suck a big deal about the princess being black. It was just another Disney movie to my girls. Who cares weather the princess was black, white, asian or animal. Its your classic Disney movie. We just have some stupid ppl in the world….the world isnt all one color ppl!!!! We need tv. movies, and magazines to all reflect that.
not released in the uk until feb 5th or something like that but it looks really good so ill offer to take a small cousin of mine to give me an excuse lol
SUPPORT 2D ANIMATION! otherwise we'll only have computer-animated disney films and that would SUCK big time!
I saw the movie and I thought it was great! I'm black and I have no problem with any of the characters in the movie. There were blacks and whites in the movie, which is realistic. Bad weather conditions all over the country may have something to do with the fact that the numbers were not as hig as those for UP, which premired in the summer. Great for Disney!
Re: PEREZmakesME-WET –
LMAO!! Dumb ass, LOL!! That was me sitting in front of you!! I thought it was hot butter for my pop corn!! I knew it was extra salty!!
Re: bite me –
Uhhhh…there was white people in this movie! Maybe you should have gone and seen the movie before making this type of comment.
I WANNA SEE IT LOL WITH MY BLACK FRIENDS =)
LOL WOW! well, first i think the movie is a good thing. not all little girls are white with blonde hair and that should not be the only image of a Princess that little girls all over the world should have to see! Also, Disney could have done a better job advertising this movie. The only place I can say I have seen commericals for is onn Disney channel. Also, images of the "frog" all over the place was not good. What ever happened to scenes of the princes with her gown and crown on her head actually singing "the theme song"…that is what attracts little girls and gets them excited to see the film..Disney failed with this one! AND the sterotypes didnt help To BITEME…u r just a very sad person, and representative of what is wrong with. you are the face of hate and envy…must suck to be you
Lol, my sister would be so mad if she saw you called G-Force a "crappy rodent romp". She got a guinea pig before it came out, so she made us go see it.
I went to go see this because it's been a long time since Disney's made a 2-D film, instead of a CGI one. All these CGI ones are so stupid, and can never be classics like a 2-D one can be.
2 reasons it probably didn't make that much money: 1. It was a black princess. 2. It was a 2-D film and today's little kids are used to CGI films.
But for those of you who haven't seen it, go see it! It was really cute and good! Ray had to be my favorite character(:
i loved the movie! the only thing i hated was that she princess started off poor. damn disney you give us a black princess but she starts off in the slums! thats the only thing i did not like! i guess we can't have it all!
I won't be going to see Invictus! I'm not going to support a film about a terriost! Wish Americans would stay out of other countries business!!
Re: bite me – Have you heard of the term "fictional movie"? We know there aren't singing 'gators and stuff. I'm from Texas, and we always get sterotyped as cowboys and cowgirls who work on the ranch all day long. No body I know has a ranch. And no one I know talks "country". But the truth is, is that there's a lot of people who do. And in Louisiana, there's all the bayous and jazz, like this movie depicts. This movie is not dumb. I went to go see it. It's better than some of the recent craptastic movies Disney has made.
Re: titi83 – Cinderella was a scullery maid. Snow White was a servant. Mulan and Belle from Beauty and the Beast were both from working class families. The only "Princess" who was a princess from the get-go was Jasmine from Aladdin or Sleeping Beauty. There has to be some struggle to get to the whole princess aspect, or the character development would seriously be lacking.
I find it funny that people shout about ignorance and then lump all white people into one category. All white people are not racists. There are still bigots out there (as there are with any race), but you can not judge an entire community based on the actions of an idiotic few.
Also, Disney promoted this movie like crazy. They had several billboards, bus advertisements and commercials playing for over a month. So you can't blame Disney for under-promoting this flick.
It's also nice to see that apparently Pocahontas, Mulan, and Jasmine never existed. Last time I checked, they were not white. Is being African American somehow more ethnic than being Native American, Asian, or Middle-Eastern?
I think this movie will prove to be a champ over the holiday season as children are out of school. It may have legs (no frog legs pun intended).
Re: allthegoodnamesweretaken –
Let's not forget that Sleeping Beauty was raised a peasant until she learned her true identy. Belle(Beauty and The Beast) was poor also.
Let's not make this a black and white thing. Let's make this about class, and how women are objectified in these so called Disney movies. Each othe these po' girls were poor, uneducated, and dirty. As usual it took a man to make them princesses. I would not allow my child to watch these movies becuz of the message. It's telling these little girls that they are nothing without a strong man in their lives. Cinderella cleaned houses and was the quint essential low class maid. Then all the sudden the rich man falls in love with her, then BAM she's a princess. Same for Snow White and any woman married into money. Mulan, Jasmine, and Pocahontas the ethnics that didn't have a rags to riches story. Shit Jasmine took a poor man and turn him into a prince. Disney should make a movie about a working class single mother of 3 who busts her ass and becomes successful by working and going to school. And have her children be just as successful. I'm just saying.
Re: CandyAppleRed –
Maaaaaaan. You iz one ignant ass Knee-Grow. All this hoopla about white princesses is bullshit. Why don't u dumbasses try to learn something? These so called white princesses are white becuz of where the story originated. Snow White, Cinderella, Belle are not, I repeat are not Americans. When was the last time u've seen a castle in america besides White castle and the ones at Disney? This movie didn't make so much becuz it was traditional 2D animation. Besides anime no one wants their movies in that format. To the other ignant asses, Pocahontas, Mulan, and Aladin's Jasmine are not white and their movies made tons of money for Disney and gave girls of color their princesses. How many american princesses are there? Disney made their living by adapting other countries stories into the characters they are today. As a black man I say to you shut the fuck up. Dat fire fly cracks me up. He's not a stereotype there were people like that back in the day.
Re: laidback –
Laidback you and Disney can lick my ass crack.
Re: PerezTheBlogNazi – Hey sweetie!! I've missed seeing you. Glad you are back. My niece and nephew are AA/Italian. And I am taking them to see it with my kids. I love all Disney movies. Hey to everyone Happy Holidays!!
Would it hurt to do a little research before calling this a lackluster release? Even though 25 million may not seem like much compared to summer blockbusters like UP, The Princess and the Frog had the highest December opening weekend EVER for an animated film. I saw this film and was very impressed by it, it's nice to see the Walt Disney Company going back to it's roots. The Princess and the Frog gives me high hopes for the new Winnie the Pooh film in 2011 and the Snow Queen in 2013.
Re: allthegoodnamesweretaken –
You my friend are a genius.
I had written something like that but it seemed Perez didn't wanna post it. If you're gonna play the race card on everything at least be smart about. Like my buddy here said don't put everyone in one group. Disney did not come up with these stories. They just did the character design and breathed life into the stories. None of these princesses are american when have you ever seen an american princess, king, castle? Most disney stories are from the brother's grim who happen to be wait for it…..German. Even this story is in that book. So kudos to Disney for TRYING. But once again you negros are bias. So when does White Chicks 2 come out?
Re: CandyAppleRed –
Is that ur ignant ass way of realizing that you were wrong? And yes I am a black man. BLAM! Get a taste of that bitch puddin'. And no I don't want no ignant ass crack.
Re: Paris France – Hi! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you! Good seein you too dollz.
Re: Paris France – Btw, I bet you neice and nephew are gorgeous!
Re: PerezTheBlogNazi – They sure are! I love them no different then any of my other nieces and nephews. MUAH to you!
Re: allthegoodnamesweretaken – Re: titi83 –" The only "Princess" who was a princess from the get-go was Jasmine from Aladdin or Sleeping Beauty. There has to be some struggle to get to the whole princess aspect, or the character development would seriously be lacking."
Dont forget Ariel from 'The Little Mermaid.' She was technically a princess, b/c her dad was King Triton.
Re: allthegoodnamesweretaken – So true! I don't see why people are always making this a race thing… and only seem to think there are two races in the world!
umm, what? I'm white and I'm excited to see this movie. I don't care what the characters looks like.
I'm not going to watch this movie and think "OMG! THIS IS WHAT BLACK PEOPLE ARE LIKE!" It's a fictional movie, and I'm not an idiot. Not all white people, or all people for that matter, are racist idiots.
I'm sick of this crap that Tiana has "white" features. What, so all black people look alike? If she had been made with the stereotypical full lips, flat nose, and frizzy hair, there would be a huge stink about that. All of the characters look different. Because people look different. It's FICTION, and people with any ounce of intelligence will know that.
furthermore…I'm white, but none of the "white" princesses look like me. But that's OK — I don't give a crap what they look like. What's the big deal if a princess doesn't look EXACTLY like you? Next time, they'll have the artists come to your house and do a portrait so you'll be happy and watch the f'ing movie.
