"WHAT IS LOCKS OF LOVE?
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need."

Ladies all like to join __________ Meetwealthy. com _________. I really do not know why? Just cuz many wealthy men and celebrities there? or the men there are all handsome?
I grow my hair out and about every 2 years I cut it off and donate to this cause. I don't have tons of money but I have lots of hair and if it helps a child then they can have it.
They're a great organization! My daughter donated her hair when she got her first "big kid" haircut (she has tons of hair and it was halfway down her back at the time), and thought that it was really cool that another child would get it.
I have donated twice!
I work in a salon we would donate to locks for love until we found out they charge the girls for the wig, so you donate your hair for free and then they make the little girl who lost her hair pay !!!!
This is just wonderful……I just had my hair cut off on Saturday. I will be donating just under 12". I am doing this for my mother who underwent a full masectomy two years ago.
Dear MOM
Thank you for your strength and courage you showed during this hard time.
Merry Christmas
Love you
Donna
Re: athenatrin –
Well they only offer FREE wigs to those with financial need… and for those who don't qualify there is a sliding pay scale (this means that families with a little more money would pay a little more for a wig)
Think about it… the hair donated isn't just taped to a girl's head, it has to be sewn into a CUSTOM sized wig. They probably can't afford to make wigs for every girl who has lost their hair due to alopecia or cancer or something else.
The fact you now won't donate hair becuase some girls have to pay a little kind of disgusts me. It's like not donating blood because someone will have to pay for it. Or not donating old clothes to the Salvation Army becuase they sell them back. It's selfish of you.
Re: Dunya –
Donna- you should donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths instead. They give women with cancer wigs free of charge. I cut off 15" last week and I'm donating it to them.
Re: highfive5 –
as someone whose family has had financial trouble all my life, I feel much better about donating my clothes to a non-profit clothes bank. I know way too many wealthy people that shop at Salvation Army to believe that it's doing just as much good. I'm donating my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, because I know it will be given to someone with cancer free of charge. Should we really make cancer patients pay for their wigs? I don't think so.
I have donated =]
Re: highfive5 – i don't think anyone is suggesting that people don't donate their hair. they are merely pointing out the faults of one organization. most of the hair that goes to locks of love is actually sold (for profit) to companies who make hair extensions. most people who donate their hair to this organization have no idea that their hair will never be made into a wig for a girl in need, but rather will be used to supplement someone's weave, who will pay upwards of $500 for the hair. pantene beautiful lengths has already been mentioned as a more reputable organization, as is wigs for kids.
We did research and, like many below, discovered that Pantene Beautiful Lengths is the better of the two organizations to donate hair for wigs. They are affiliated with the American Cancer Society. Also, if requested, Pantene will send you a letter confirming receipt of your hair and thanking you for your donation. As someone who has lost too many to cancer, Pantene Beautiful Lengths is my obvious choice.
