Introducing The World's Smallest Snowman!

OMG!

The National Physical Laboratory has constructed the world's smallest snowman for the holidays with a width of 10 µm!!

Equal to "1/5th the width of a human hair," says the lab.

So adorable!

The NPL made the itty-bitty snowman from "two tin beans used to calibrate electron microscope astigmatism." The eyes and smile were "milled using a focused ion beam" and the nose is "ion beam deposited platinum."

We want one!

Wow. What a waste of taxpayer money. Don't you have things like Cancer and Stem Cells to research? Scientists are literally retarded in this country.

I'm not impressed. Where are the arms huh? This is not a real snow man. Not real I tell you. Who would have the time and petients to make that itty bitty thing anyway. Ha! Nerds.

    4. 4

That is too dam cute,….I want one !!!

    5. 5

This is what our tax money is being wasted on? This is the stupidest thing you've ever posted.

    6. 6

Nice use of U.K. taxpayers money.

Nice sense of humor of some of these posters - NOT! Geeze people, lighten up! Like none of you have EVER slacked off at work occasionally, looking for fun ways for a little comic relief with your workmates. Right…what a waste of YOUR employer's salaries. You should all be fired.

      Why?…

    10. 10

      Your tax dollars at work.

The only thing more amazing than this story is that this site is now trying to do scientific coverage!

change the name of the site to CutandPasteHilton.

    14. 14

It's not really made out of snow…but still..cute:)

    15. 15

I'm not complaining about the money, but what was the point of making a tiny snowman?

    16. 16

uh, why? waste of time and money…

    17. 17

What possible purpose could this serve? What a waste of beams!

    18. 18

perez, this is OLD news. I heard about this like a week ago!

    19. 19

      they should all be fired

    20. 20

You seriously need a slap. Fucking moron.

    21. 21

      1) I read this about a 10 days ago

      2) They have to test the lasers, so whether they create a snowman or any other structure, the point is to test the technology.

      3) They probably decided to create a snowman because they knew that it could attract the attention of non-scientists.

    22. 22

this is not news, seen Willard Wigan? he's been doing stuff like that for YEARS.

    23. 23

Honestly, I'd rather have tax dollars going to this than freeloaders in the country.
No, really, I would, but I'm not even getting on that. Its not that bid of a deal, I doubt making this snowman (who is adorable btw!) costed anything.

    24. 24

I honestly read this like…3 weeks ago. You are always so late with your news

    25. 25

this is impressive, but couldn't they have spent money on something else's that's impressive AND useful? :P

    26. 26

wow.. no no, why worry about a cure for cancer when you could make a microscopic snow man

    27. 27

      Someone needs more to do.
