Pandas Needed To Mate!
Time for some panda panting!
The Chinese and Australian conservation societies are hoping that a recent matchup may prove fruitful for the world.
Two pandas, Wang Wang and Funi, have been thrust together at the Adelaide Zoo down under in hopes that they will, well, thrust together.
It is the hopes of Australian and Chinese officials that the two bamboo-munching cuddle bears will make good use of their time together and start punching out some much needed babies.
As the only giant pandas in left the Southern Hemisphere, they have little other options, but at the moment, both of them are still too young. As we're told, the pandas are only 3 and 4 years old, and they won't reach "sexual maturity" for another year or so.
So they're in that awkward middle school phase where they think they like each other but they don't know if they like-like each other.
They better figure it out though! No time to waste! All of China and Australia is waiting!!

There are the only 2 pandas in the southern hemisphere as no zoos in South America and Australia (until now) had any on loan from their only homeland in China. They are in zoos in North America, Europe, and Asia, about 160 of them.
There are only about 1600 alive in the wild. With destruction of their habitat and the fact that they are poor breeders, they are very much an endangered species.

Female and male pandas are only together for about 3 days in the wild and they are more likely to not mate if they are around each other too much

Adelaide is my hometown and it is PANDA-MONIUM!! we have pandas on fkn everything. can't wait to see them though. soon our postcards are going to have pandas on them even though they aren't native!
