Paramount Launches Low Budget Movie Division

We're talking LOW budget and the possible resurgence of indie film!
Considering the success of Paranormal Activity and its miniscule $15,000 budget, Paramount will launch a new production division for movies budgeted at less that $100,000.
Although most the films made under this currently unnamed banner will not get a theatrical release, they made end up as "calling cards" to showcase new talent. And some may get big-budget remakes!
The division will not exceed funding of $2 million per year and save thousands of dollars in film prints while showing films in their digital format. Paramount also plans to forgo costly marketing campaigns and rely just on word-of-mouth to promote the film. Some movies may be released only at the midnight time slot to avoid costly wide releases.

Ouch!

seems like a good idea to me
I have no idea why this movie did so well - it was pretty cheesy.
This was news last week. Why are you reporting on news that is 5 days old?
I don't like it.
Just another ploy to horde profits.

SUPPORT THE ARTS AND INDEPENDANT FILMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YESSSS!!
)))))
Hey Perez!! Wanna get into the producing game? I've got a few scripts floating around just itching to be filmed!
this is amazing news.
this is old news….and more importantly….it is news….that was already reported by the Times and other industry papers and sites….why the hell are you bothering to even talk about it…..stick to what you know…and what people read you for…..gossip (whether it is true or not)…..stay out of the news biz…….BUT….if you do want to keep reporting the news……do it in a timely manner….because this just makes you look JV….
As weird as it sounds, this may be one of the best things to happen to the film industry in the past 10 years. Indy films with major studio backing. We could finally see the revitalization of unique and avant garde films.
movie was overrated beyond all existence, i went to see it alone expecting to be scared shitless. very very disappointing movie
"Resurgence of indie film"? Indie film is doing just fine thank you. In 2008 there were 388 Indies released (compared to 63 in 1993) and these films make up 64% of the U.S. movie marketplace. The "majors" released only 105 films. A little industry knowledge, or even quick research, goes a long way before making such erroneous statements.
the people that are saying they weren't scared when they watched this ARE LYING! this movie scared the shit out of me. and i don't scare easily. i love scary movies, but this one really got to me. i still can't sleep. i thought the actors were very convincing!
fantastic idea, paramount seems to have put its thinking cap on..
I LOVE this idea. I've found that my favorite movies to watch are the low budget/student kind of films. They risk so much more, and the actors usually seem more talented because we're not being distracted by all the crazy special effects.
Sure they will. There's money to be had, and Paramount wants it. The original promoter of Indie film was Sundance. It will help a few get started even if they score a hit and end up poorer than if they'd managed it themselves. Ink yourselves better percentages, just in case.
