And the ratings are going down while Tiger takes an indefinite break!
Tiger Woods skipped the Chevron World Challenge last week, which he founded, and NBC only drew 1.2 million viewers, down 54% from last year. Bill Carroll, vp and director of programming at Katz TV Group, explains:
"Without Woods, televised tournaments are like a major motion picture without a star's name above the title — rarely do people go to see the flick. Now only die-hard golf fans will watch the tournaments."
NBC often experiences a drop in the ratings when Tiger isn't playing a tournament and the trend will likely continue. But will it get better when he comes back? John Rash, senior vice president at Campbell Mithun, says:
"While there will be keen interest in Tiger's first tournament back, overall ratings will likely decline as the casual golf viewer who was enticed by Tiger's personal and professional persona will now most likely view him differently. Indeed, his aura, which defined an era, is gone, and along with that, some viewers."
We think he's right!
Even if he comes back and continues to win tournaments, his reign as everyone's favorite golfer is definitely over!

If you've been watching the shit-show known as the Jersey Shore on MTV, you've probably already seen the promos for an upcoming episode in which one of the female characters is punched HARD in the face by a dude in bar.

Professional golf has done a pretty poor effort at getting other stars of the game recognized beyond golf fans. They lived by the Tiger and will now die by the Tiger.
It should be noted that pro-golf had a place on TV before Tiger Woods and will continue to have one long after he is dead and buried. It is after all one of the oldest sports in existence.

That isn't true at all, look at Kobe Bryant, the accusation tarnished his reputation for a while but now that he is back and better than ever, people LOVE him!!!!! Basketball ratings are higher than ever. Michael Jordan, affairs… people still love him and he doesn't even play in the NBA anymore… so I think your statement is wrong and the gentlemen from the advertising firm what the hell does he know about golf and how golf fans will feel about and treat Tiger Woods when he returns. When he comes back - there will be even more viewers. Ratings will be high, and he will get endorsements again. You can't endorse an athlete who is not playing the sport.

Sorry, I disagree. I am a casual golf viewer. I don't play golf. I personally don't care about all of Tiger's women. I am a married woman and I will continue to turn on the TV during a golf tournament when Tiger plays simply because of his ability on the golf course. It amazes me to watch him hit a shot that no one else is able to do. It is pure entertainment to me. (Heck, he's not my husband and she is not my g/f… I really don't care.)
