Marijuana On The Up!

Oh, you kids today!

Marijuana is becoming increasingly popular among teens in the US, which is supposedly attributed to the national debate over medical marijuana and researchers believe it makes it seem safer to teens.

Teens also feel this way about abusing prescription drugs, which may make them more popular in the future.

But booze remains the most popular drug of choice for teens with 43.5 percent of 12th graders admitting to drinking in the past month.

Some things never change!

      Legalize!
      Legalize!
      Legalize!

    2. 2

It has nothing to do with the national debate but that a high percentage of adults use it. Kids are parroting parent behavior with weed, pills and booze.

Much ado about nothing. Drugs go in and out of favor all the time. The NY Post, your source, cites researchers saying the availability of medical Marijuana makes it seem safer to teens.
It never names the researchers and this was not a conclusion of the University of Michigan article as I read it. It is propaganda and you just printed it.
The use of pot has been on the decline since the late 90s and all that was observed is a 2% increase over the last two years. Again much ado about nothing.
      Decriminalize pot use!!!!

    4. 4

      heady, brah!

    5. 5

Weed isn't a drug- legalize it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    6. 6

      light up!

    7. 7

stop hating, perez… if you spent half as much time getting educated on issues like marijuana legalization as you did on acting like an entitled princess bitch, maybe more people wouldn't hate you. just saying.

    8. 8

Marijuana IS safer than most other drugs, including alcohol.

    9. 9

Teens loving pot???.. We all love pot.

    10. 10

Is it legal to marry a bag of weed???
It would be the most perfect & harmonious relationship…

Now I would rather my kids do NOTHING… but I would rather see them smoke "a little" pot than drink or take pills… pills are the worst.

    12. 12

I would probably do weed if it weren't for the fact that I have a genetic predisposition to psychotic illness, so I think it's too dangerous.

    13. 13

"researchers"??? like who?? this is one shitty writer for the NY Post who thinks that because we're talking about it more, teens are just going to do it more? if anything, that's the exact opposite of how teenagers actually work.

    14. 14

Marijuana destroys your lungs, destroys your brain and makes you useless to society. Legalization will cause serious traffic accidents to skyrocket. Legalization will accelerate the rapid downfall of this country that is already in progress.

    15. 15

Marijuana is less addictive then coffee.

    16. 16

I'm a teenager and i smoke a lot of weed don't get me wrong i love the shit.
Nothing anyone says or does is going to make me stop. I hate the fact that parents etc get their panties in a bunch about you smoking the stuff.
When them , themselves are sitting there boozing and smoking their squares. Most people think that just because alcohol and cigarettes are legal means they are better for you.
      Bullshit.

    17. 17

Why are pot-suers always saying that it is less dangerous than Alcohol? Already smoked your brain away?
Maybe you should read researches that were not made by addicts!!

    18. 18

does anyone know where the store is thats in the pic? is it in california? i think i wasin that place one time while in california

    19. 19

please i rather eat my nails than this its not addicting

    20. 20

Re: hank schmank – The smoke is bad for your lungs but the marijuana itself is not. If you cooked it into your food or vaporized it it would be healthyer obviously. Also Marijuana hasnt been proven to kill brain cells. I suppose you all listen to that propoganda too?

    21. 21

43.5 % of 12th graders drink booze seems extremely low too me, but then again I live in Europe.. i think more and more people smoke weed for a lot of reasons more social acceptance for the drug, easier to get it and better buzz etc..

    22. 22

Re: Amelizzle – Because it is..
"Marijuana is less addictive then coffee"
did you read that? An extremly large amount of people who have smoked are not addicted. And that tiny sliver that might acctualy be addicted probablty have an addictive personality and shouldnt have ever been introduced to it.

    23. 23

Re: Amelizzle – Has marijuana ever killed anyone ever?
      No.
      Has alcohol?
      Yes.

    24. 24

Kids are going to do anything that's "bad". I think there are a lot more seriouse issues with kids these days than smoking a little reafer. How about all the garbage and soft drinks kids are fed in America. That poses a lot more of a health risk than smoking a little bit of reefer. Oh and if your kid is getting bad grades and withdrawing it usually has to do with lack of parenting skills. Oh and smoking pot doesn't mean your kid is depressed and requires a bandaid antidepressent.

    25. 25

Rx drugs truly are the main issue. The legalization of marijuana isn't up for debate, it is going to happen. I believe that the focus should remain on treatment, derivations(vapor, food, etc,) and implementation, for each U.S. substance program.

    26. 26

      Re: Amelizzle

Anyone that thinks marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol is either dumb, ignorant, or corrupt.

    27. 27

Was it ever on the "Down"? I thought teenagers and Pot have been popular with teens since the sixties???

    28. 28

Pot being popular with teens…now that is really breaking news. Where have these people been, stuck up their butts? Go out in to the real world as see, hear and smell, then pontificate about this 'new thing for teens'

    29. 29

I've been smoking pot for over 40 years. I grow my own, harvest and cure it. I did purchase 2 ozs several months ago and it cost me $400.00. It would be a lot cheaper if legalized. However, growing my own is pretty cheap too.

    30. 30

It should be legal with same restrictions as alcohol. Age limit 21, etc.

    31. 31

This is scary…I was a substance abuse counselor and research shows that 1 out of 4 teens has a inherited risk factor in their DNA that if they abuse marijuana in their adolescence before their brains are done developing (which doesn't happen until around the age of 24 actually) can trigger schizophrenia!!!! I am not against using marijuana, but against it being used by teens…..that is the last thing their developing brains need!!! Aren't we already stocked up enough with crazy people who are struggling through life????

    32. 32

Re: grannyho – Wow do you have a whole thing set up in your basment?

    33. 33

Legalize it and don't criticize it.

Other than that this information is nothing new. researchers believe it makes it seem safer to teens, than good because Marijuana is 100% safe. Glad to see that the ancient scare tactics and lies about Canabis are finally being fought on a greater scale.

DONT STEP ON MY GRASS UNCLE SAM

    34. 34

Prescription medication MAY become more popular?! Where have you been, Perez? Prescription pills have already become a huge epidemic, especially in Florida… watch the news! Where I live, it's the drug of choice for hundreds of teens (and I live in a small town). Most of the people my age in the next town over are all addicted to OxyContin… It's sad. I wish I was exaggerating. More should be done to educate everyone about the risks of prescription drugs… people die from this shit just like from any other drug.

    35. 35

I read an article about this. It was shocking that the focus of the article was on pot becoming more popular because in that same article it said that 44% of 8th graders think pot is dangerous but only 28% of 8th graders think ecstasy is dangerous. I don't smoke pot because I don't like the way it makes me feel but even though I don't like it I can't deny that it isn't dangerous! It is beyond me how anyone can think Ecstacy, wich is one of the most dangerous drugs is less dangerous than pot. Instead of wasting money trying to get teenagers to stop doing something that isn't really dangerous they should be teaching them the truth about ecstacy and pills and alcohol because apparently teens don't find danger in these things.

    36. 36

Legalize it! lol I just bought an app on my iphone called iBlunt! it looks like youre smoking a real blunt haha. it was only 99 cents too definitely worth it!
