Guess Who Was Named Athlete Of The Decade???
Great timing!
Tiger Woods has been voted Athlete of the Decade by members of The Associated Press.
Apparently, his work on the green can overshadow is work in the bushes!
Receiving 56 out of the 142 votes cast, Tiger beat out runner-up Lance Armstrong, even with half of the ballots being turned in after his car accident, which set the adulterous wheels in motion.
We'd say congratulations, but we kind of don't want to. Lance won the Tour de France six times this decade, plus he beat cancer, plus he wasn't as much of a sleaze!
But, if we are going on athleticism alone, we guess he should win.

I'll probably catch some flack for this but I don't really consider golf as much of an athletic sport. You swing a metal stick and hit a ball, then walk and go find it. You don't even need to be in shape to be good at it.
Its called the ATHLETE of the year … not PERSON of the year …. so techincally yah he would be. golfers do not have spectacular ATHLETICISM. This stuff bugs me so much. Lance Armstrong has to do SO much more physically to be successful in his sport… any basketball player or any sport where you actually have to have endurance, strength, agility… Golf should be in a totally different category.

Tiger is the best golfer in the world by far. But there are by far many athletes that have been greater then hm in the past decade. There is no way you can say that tiger is a in the league of Lance Armstrong. Lets see Tiger try to ride a bike up a mountain and run a marathon under 3 hours. Golf is more of a sport that involves a certain set of skills not not so much atletic ability.

Well, Lance Armstrong DID cheat on his wife too. He took her to a spot where they had gone on their honeymoon, 10 years earlier, and as they were walking along the beach, he told her that he was having an affair with a 28 year old and was in love and was leaving her (his wife) for this younger woman. Once he left, after a few months, he came crying back to his wife saying, "I can't let you go. I can't win any races without you. I need you!" Ugh! He made it all about HIM, of course! Such a prima dona! He messed with Sheryl crow's head too, jerk that he is!

No way. Both are sleazy, but if you want to judge them on athleticism alone, it would be Lance, hands down. I don't think some of you realize the training that goes into professional cycling. It's grueling and endless. There cannot even be comparisons made to golf and cycling, really.
what a joke… i agree lance armstrong should have gotten it if he was second, but what about people like Roger Federer? Now he's amazing and tennis actually requires some athletisism unlike golf.

For those of you that don't think golf is a difficult sport, you have obviously NEVER played it! I have been playing since i was 7,i am now 30 and still play and it is VERY difficult, there are many things to consider, the layout of the course, the weather-wind esp, while i love golf it's the MOST frusrating sport i've EVER played, yet can be the most fun, i'm sure you fellow golfer's out there know what i'm talking about! the rest of you, go play you're lil ghetto sports!

I golf and cycle, riding a bike is a LOT easier, and also easier to train for, as you only need to train in one area, riding the bike and building muscle. Golf isn't just swinging a damn club, it involves accuracy, precision, developing the right muscles and learning the correct posture in which to swing (surprisingly fucking difficult), deciding how hard to hit the ball, stamina AND a good understanding of how wind consistency will effect your swing.
It's hard enough being a golfer getting shit for it all the time. IT'S HARDER THAN IT FUCKING LOOKS.

I don't know…Michael Phelps is the winningest Olympian in HISTORY, with 14 Gold Medals, and eight of them in one Olympic games alone. Banging a little ball into a cup with good hand/eye coordination for big bucks takes less heart than swimming for thousands of hours with no renumeration for years and years, until you strike gold. I liked Phelps, myself. No one has ever done what he did.
