How generous!

Horror author Stephen King has donated over $13,000 to aid in getting soldiers home for the holidays.

His help will give 150 families the opportunity to spend Christmas Day together. The money is going to the main Army National Reserve in Indiana where they are training for deployment to Afghanistan in January 2010.

What an amazing holiday gift for the soldiers!

This news is soooo yesterday. Next.

Actually, he donated $12,999 and had his agent donate $1 because he has a serious superstition/fear of the number 13. Not that it makes a difference, what he did was still great, just an interesting bit about the story.

He really is my favorite writer of all time and he is a great man in life. I salute him for his gift to the soldiers. I wish more celebrities would step up and do something like that.

    4. 4

It may be the last time their families get to see them… :(

You beat me I beat you or oh that's old news! What a bunch a retards!!!! Your the man Steven and I love his books.

Another fact that you fail to notate is that he and his wife were ASKED to donate. Who knows if he would have done this on his own? Your reporting is in error . You should have said "The money is going to the MAINE Army National Reserve training for deployment in Indiana." You are a phony fat turd.

    11. 11

Where's my post, ass-hat? okay, I'll correct you twice. He was ASKED to donate and it's for the MAINE Army Nat'l Guard stationed in Indiana. And you claim to have a journalism degree. Several days late and you still can't get right.

Re: SkinnyTie13 – I logged in to say the very same thing about the $12,999. Good job on that. Amazingly, the "journalist du jour" who was blogging on this site didn't check her/his facts before blogging. I guess they missed "FACT CHECKING 101" in their community college journalism classes.

However, back to Mr King, with the stuff that must go on in Stephen King's mind he has the right to fear just about anything he wants to.

Its very sad that you ppl are so hateful. I would hate to have to live and feel that way you do all the time. Thank you Stephen. No wonder we have all these problems with the world. B/c ppl think like some of you do. So Sad.

My annoying cougar assistant just informed me that you got the story wrong. Stephen King was apporached to donate $13,000 for troops to come home and spend the holiday before going back. He agreed to donate the money, but would not donate $13,000 because "13" is an unlucky number. He actually dontated $12,999 and his assitant donated $1 to make it $13,000.Please get the facts right

    16. 16

I live in Maine and read this weeks ago and I know I read it on AOL right afterwards so you're way behind on news.

    17. 17

This very wealthy man gave ONLY $13,000 ! What a shame, I wouldn't even mention it. For him it's like a drop of water in the ocean. Open your purse you stingy King, what do you need all that money for ? Talk about generosity !

    18. 18

Everyone beat me to it, but I was gona say he donated $12,999 bc he is superstitious and this is old news anyway.

    19. 19

Re: Babouchka – Seriously? Just because he has a ton of money… he should be expected to donate more? Stephen worked his ass (mind) off writing stories to entertain us. He came from nothing… his father left him and his brother when he was little. His mother struggled to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

ALSO… do some research. Stephen donates money and helps people ALL THE TIME. This is not an isolated incident. So, he was asked to help. He helped, didn't he? He could of scrooged all out and said no… but he opened his wallet and donated what was needed to help this cause.

Yes… this was posted awhile ago. Why do you guys bitch and complain about Perez (or his ghost writers) posting old stuff… yet you keep coming back. That doesn't make any sense at all. I still come here because I like Perez' (and crew) opinions about the topics… and if I don't… I don't read it.

      Grow up.

Nicely done on behalf of his fellow residents of MAINE (not main you turd). BTW his newest book Under the Dome is one of his best, ie, if you liked The Stand I think you will enjoy this one.

    21. 21

Wow, what a dent that must've put in his millions.

Don't get me wrong - its nice to see people being charitable - but don't make out like the guy's some sort of god. $13,000 is chump change to him.

    22. 22

Re: ap076 – I haven't read it yet. I AM a fan of 'The Stand'… lookin' forward to reading it now.

If his donation brought 150 troops home, then apparently airplane tickets from Afghanistan to the USA cost $86 bucks. Donating to charity is always commendable. However, SK is worth over 200 million dollars. $13,000 dollars is .000065 percent of his net worth. Is that really laudable enough to praise on a website? If you make $30,000 dollars a year his donation is the same as you donating $1.95. Gosh, can't even get a Big Mac for that price these days. Sorry, but people need to stop defending the super rich. I make 25K and donate at least 300 dollars a year. That means I donate 184 times more of my income than this SK donation. Come on people. We're getting shit on in this country. Stop it with the accolades for undeserving super rich.
