What fantastic news!

Ethan Zohn of Survivor fame has been battling a rare form of Hodgkin's disease but was just informed that the cancer is now in remission! Now he'll be able to go on to the next step which is a stem cell transplant.

He's been so positive throughout his entire ordeal and we're sure that has made all of the difference!

We're so happy for you, Ethan!

Good for him! I lost my best friend to this horrible illness last summer.

Good new and good luck on the Stem Cell Transplant, much more tolerable and successful than a Bone Marrow Transplant.

I think remission means cancer free for 5 years

Re: Heh – No you can only be cancer free once the cancer has been gone for 5 years without coming back at all. Remission means that the cancer isn't attacking healthy cells.

      Re: Heh

Cancer Remission means the cancer is not present at the current time and after 5 years of remission you are considered 'cured'

I'll be celebrating my 1st year in remission Dec 30 from Hodgkins Lymphoma :)

God bless you Ethan. You're a good man.

    17. 17

That's good. I don't want him to die.

And to the ignoramuses, no you are not "cured" after five years, or 30, or 2, or whatever….if you're treated and cancer isn't found via tests, it means you have no cancer at that moment. It doesn't mean you can't get recurrence or a new cancer 5 minutes later. It's true for all of us, whether we've had cancer or not. Five years isn't a magic anything. Nor does it need to be.

stay strong! stay positive and win this battle!!!!

      Re: contrarianchick

Why don't you do some research before you call me an ignoramuse, I am currently going through this. The success rate of the treatment of the cancer is based on the 5 year survival rate, which is how many people are alive after 5 years the longer you go between occurrences the less likely you are of the cancer returning. There is NO cure to cancer hence why I put it in " " because 5 years is used as the benchmark for your disease this is not to say the cancer come back after 5 years its just less likely.
