Miley Cyrus To Be An Oscar Nominee???
What a nauseating exciting prospect!
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released a list yesterday of the 63 eligible songs for Oscar consideration. Among the list is none other than Disney's golden girl, Miley Cyrus.
Miley co-wrote the song Don’t Walk Away with John Shanks and Hillary Lindsay for the Hannah Montana Movie, which places her right in the running alongside some heavy-hitters as well as someone else who wrote for her movie soundtrack, Taylor Swift.
She hasn't a shot in hell of winning, but even if she gets nominated, you know we will all never hear the end of it. Plus, it'll be a HUGE slap in the face to the other nominees and the ones who didn't get selected.
Do us all a favor Academy voters and just cross this one off your list. Trust us, the ratings aren't really worth it!

So what it is just a list of original songs in a movie. Not like she was nominated. But if the song is good. Which is not that hard since most of the songs in movies typically are not that great. Then good for her. Not sure why you hate on her. I am not a fan of hers, but she is a hard working girl and that is pretty impressive considering her age.

The song is only eligible and will not be nominated because the 5 nominees will be voted only by those in the songwriters branch of the Academy. What do you think their opinion of Ms. Cyrus is?

She is, perhaps, a sweet girl (Taylor Swift as well), but insofar as having any real talent - talent for the long haul - talent we will be discussing and celebrating 50 years from now - talent deserving of a lifetime achievement award - neither of these girls were blessed with the gift to serve them for the long haul. Who needs to be slapped is the entertainment industry, who force-feed 'flavors of the month' to the 'short attention span' public. As long as the public settles, we'll see more of their kind.

Re: SoozeCat – Why would you revoke your SAG card. Actors have absolutely no say in who gets nominated in the Best Song Category. Only past song writing nominees and winners get to nominate the Best Song of the Year and they tend to nominate songs that in some way play a role in a particular scene or summarize the film. Also often from films that will receive nominations in other categories.
I have to say a I agree with perez in that miley cyrus should not be nominated for an oscar. I think there are more talented musicians who have paid their time in the industry and are therefore much more deserving of an oscar nomination than miley cyrus.
Wasn't she a Pre-Nom or actually nominated last year for that "I Thought I Lost You" song from Bolt? That animated dog Disney movie. That would make this her second pre-nom or whatever….
Anyway — I don't think the song category is really that big of a deal anymore. Not like back when movies were musical extravaganzas. Most movies don't even have songs written specifically for their films anymore. They utilize existing songs that can't even be nominated in the Original Song category. Not a lot of major competition in that category in my opinion.

I agree with you about the stature of this award, in fact The Academy Music section only choose to nominate 3 songs last year.
I will mention a pet peeve of mine, I think the singer(s) of the songs should also get an award when a song wins, though this would be difficult with big production numbers like the one that won from Slumdog last year.
