Delayed! See You Next Year Roman Polanski!

Ugh! This guy just keeps catching breaks!

On Wednesday, the Swiss government announced that they won't begin the long await extradition process of Roman Polanski until 2010. A spokesperson for the Justice Minstry released a statement, saying:

"There will be nothing more this year. At the earliest, we'll make an announcement early next year as to whether the criteria for extradition have been met."

So the pedophile gets to spend Christmas in his Alpine chalet plotting his next escape route! Lovely!

Why don't we just hand him a Monopoly "Get Out Of Jail Free" card and call the whole thing a day! Clearly, no one feels this is important enough to be dealt with!

Man up, Zurich and get this done!

      Hello Nancy Grace

    5. 5

THIS IS DISGUSTING THAT THIS MAN IS FREE AGAIN.

    6. 6

have you seen "Wanted and Desired"? It changes my opinion of this case. What Polanski did is wrong, but he went to jail for it and then got screwed over by the judge on his plea deal. I don't blame him for bolting!

Zürich? What does Zürich have to do with that? (Just so you know, the capitaal of Switzerland is Bern -_-)

    8. 8

The Swiss are know for being 'Wet Socks', what do you expect?
      .

Re: Soulsoulshock – No kidding! TERRIBLE! HORRIFIC! - How can we get this guy to the trough of justice?!? To think of him walking free, out in society…

    10. 10

Leave director Polanski alone. The parents of the 13 year-old who was left alone with him should be prosecuted instead. As a mother, I would never leave a young daughter in such a situation. Let's stop this hypocrisy right now !

    11. 11

Watch "wanted and desired" and it may change your opinion. He did his time, then the judge changed his mind.

Has everyone forgotten that Charles Manson killed his wife and child?

    14. 14

urgh, you have no clue about Switzerland!!! The ministry in question is in BERN - the capital city of Switzerland!!! And whaddya expect? He won't get no special treatment like in the US! After all the US claim is 40pages long, and Polaski's reply another 20… that takes a while!

    15. 15

Re: cute_puppy – you have no idea, bet you don't even know where Switzerland is!

Perez copies almost all of his posts from heatworld.com a British gossip website.

Although Zurich is the commercial and cultural center of Switzerland and the capital of it's eponymous canton, Bern is the political capital of Switzerland.

Re: Babouchka – listen, i TRY to be calm and give well reasoned arguments, however, i'm really fed up with responses like this, so i'm just going to ask . . . are you crazy? because you would HAVE to be to think it makes any kind of logical sense whatsoever to state that a 44 year old man is not responsible for raping a 13 year old girl because her mother looked the other way. you are INSANE. either that or pure evil, but i'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt . . .

    19. 19

Re: jham – Hey there, who are you to ask if I am crazy - just because my opinion is not a carbon copy of yours. Stop passing judgment on others because they are different. Why cast the first stone, don't you have anything in your closet that you wouldn't want the world to know about ? Plus just try to be polite and civilized, and stop asking decent people if they are crazy.

    20. 20

The man has suffered enough. His wife and child were murdered, he SERVED his jail time, and the judge in this case was a celebrity obsessed nut that made a joke of our justice system. Go watch the interviews of the woman this case involves, the defense attorney, and the prosecuting attorney. It's much easier to point fingers and call people names than it is to be informed. Not saying what he did was right, but if the person he wronged in the first place has forgiven him and moved on why can't everyone else? He served his time, he deserves his freedom. He has a family now and children of his own. If you want to be outraged about pedophiles going free, go look in your own communities. It happens EVERY DAY.

RIIIIIIIGHT… I know nothing about the Swiss!

Re: Babouchka – so wait - do you or do you not believe rp is LESS culpable b/c the 13 year old victim had a negligent mom? are you denying you said that? so . . . if this were a "decent" girl with "decent" parenting it would be a different story, but to judge a great director for raping a 13 year old girl who comes from "the wrong kind of family" is just silly? wow, who's the judgy one you or me? and if that's NOT what you're saying, please correct me . . . please . . .

    25. 25

this is ridiculous. you know nothing about roman polanski, why don't you try reading up on his case and the fame-driven judge and then you'll realize why he fled. his lawyer AND the lawyer defending the girl told roman to not trust the judge. you really need to stop talking about people like you know every single detail to every situation. not everything is black and white. i am not defending his actions but considering the girl publicly forgave him then and now, maybe you should stop acting so pretentious.

    26. 26

First of all, it's not his fault if it's taking forever to have him extraded to USA.
Second, no matter how terrible his crime was, he still doesn't deserve to be called a pedophile. Do you even know what a pedophile is? A guy who's ONLY into children or young teenagers, someone's who sick cause he's obsessed by prepubescent bodies, a guy who's jerking off to pics of naked kids, etc…
Polanski pleaded guilty to raping a 13 year old girl 30 years ago. Doesn't make him a pedophile for the rest of his life.
It would be like calling me a thief because I used to steal stuff from the supermarket when I was a teenager.

    27. 27

Re: jham – You are OH SO RIGHT. Somehow, I doubt 'Babouchka' is who "she" SAYS "she" is. No MOTHER would ever say THAT.

    28. 28

      totally agree. Gross. cowardly.

    29. 29

      Re: jham

Her mother didn't simply "look the other way". You make it sound like Polanski snatched the kid from the mother as they were waiting in line at the post office. When it's southern California in the 1970's and there's a knock on your door and you open it and the man standing there says, "Hello, I'm Roman Polanski. May I take your nubile 13-year-old daughter to Jack Nicholson's house so I can take artful photographs of her for a European magazine?", this should probably raise a few flags for you. I don't think Babouchka's comments are out of line. Isn't there an ounce of contributory negligence on the part of her parents?

    30. 30

Ewww he makes me ick to my stomach!

    31. 31

Re: cute_puppy – muhahaaaa, growing up at the border means nothing - guess what, I'm SWISS! as long as you don't have that nationality you have no right to insult us! and illegal banking system? in your dreams…

    32. 32

Um, Mr. P: That would be BERN, not ZURICH. And fwiw, it reads as-if the judge in that LA case was a bit off. The man did plead guilty, he served some part of a sentence, and however wrong it was that he left the country, he seemed to have legitimate fears of malfeasance.

More importantly: The 2009 situation smacks of politics at the highest levels, a la tax-related (and other stuff), per US, France and Swtizerland, all-around.

The man was invited by one Swiss government agency as a guest and prize winner, and arrested by their Department (Ministry) of Justice. Why here, why now? Money, honey. This didn't have anything to do with him, justice, or his case. I'm just saying.

Re: jham – Please read MOVIEFAN's comments, I rest my case. Love and Peace

    34. 34

Re: redmond – "Wanted and Desired" is nothing but a bullshit propaganda piece by his film friends. And the ex-prosecutor (who was not directly involved with Polanski's case) has now admitted he LIED in the film about the late Judge who heard Polanski's case. Late judge meaning dead-the man was not here to defend himself against the prosecutor's allegations. That prosecutor is now useless to Polanski and his case. Next.

    35. 35

Re: goldfishiy – What has that got anything to do with Polanski raping a child? His late wife's tragic death is NOT an excuse to rape and neither is his late mother's death during the holocaust.
      Are you for real?

    36. 36

Re: USinSwitz – Polanski did not serve 'some part of the sentence' because THERE WAS NO SENTENCE. He escaped before the judge issued the sentence. The judge ordered an EVALUATION which is different from the actual sentence.
