Portugal Almost Certain To Pass Marriage Equality Bill

Yes! Or as the Portuguese would say: Sim!
Portugal may soon become the sixth European country to allow gay marriage.
The country has created a proposal that would change the wording of law which currently says that marriage is between a man and a woman.
Portugal's government is most likely to send it to lawmakers to debate in January and if President Anibal Cavaco Silva okays the proposal, gay marriage ceremonies could begin as soon as April.
However, if the conservative President vetoes the proposal, the decision can still be overturned by Parliament.
Hopefully Portugal makes the right decision!
Equality for ALL!

I hope they do! Awesome soccer team….awesome country. Equality for ALL!

BLAH BLAH BLAHHHHHHHHHH!!! (snore)
YEAH hopfully THEY legalize GAY marriage AND then IF you EVER wanna GET married YOU can GO to PORTUGAL and STAY THERE!
Equality for all? How about you show some respect for other people Mario? You seem to be lacking this severely. But then again, you are a big asshole so I shouldn't really be surprised.

pois…pois…tá bom…

If it does pass, I would be really surprised, considering Portugal is a very "Catholic" nation.
The country looks like a cock and the capital is Lesbon.
Yes!!! All gays to Portugal.
A Similar bill proposal, including adoption rights by gay families, was passed by the government of Slovenia this week. The proposal is now on its way to the parliament.
who cares.
Maybe you should move to Portugal?
Don't the let people marry animals yet. I hope so for the people in West Virg. can leave America.
Yup that's my country
There's no big deal about it
Re: StephAce –
Girl Plz u don't know the country
Yes we are Catholic So does Italy(but the prime minister is always screwing around) and Spain but we are not a religious FERVENT country like the US or PRUDE, and most of all we r LATIN so we don't a give shit
I'M suprised that Americans r shocked this is like whatever
Re: StephAce – The 'very Catholic' nation of Spain also allows gays to marry.
=
Hopefully Portugal will move forward with gay marriage too.
I'm sure they will be thrilled to have you!! Yummy HIV+,pock faced, fudge packers are always a great addition to any situation!!
Better than nothing,Portugal…But actually it´s really not a big deal there at all
In reality people are not so open-minded and tolerant there like, for ex., in Northern Europe or even the USA…no comparison ..
good law…but everyday life is different..
anyway there must be something to begin with…so ok
Anyone one remember when this use to be a celebrity blog?
What a great country! Lovin it!
It is disgusting that Portugal is even considering this. Portugal should do the right thing and PROHIBIT GAY MARRIAGE!!!!!
It will be in the US one of these years. Probably it will take 10 or 20 tho. Sigh
Viva! O Brasil será o proximo
Yay! This means you are leaving America, right?? Yay!
If you don't like how America is, GET THE HELL OUT.
don't we have a conflict going on where thousands of soldiers and marines are dying???? Call me crazy but I think our priorites globaly are mixed up.
I dont think Portugal is that very 'catholic' country anymore.
And its a sign of grow that we are adopting this new law.
Everybody is free to make their own choices, so im really proud of my country.
why don't you move there?
omg what the hell is this?
Portugal is a very catholic country? Oh Really?! Because I am portuguese and I don't thing we are that catholic. And we're definitely not prude!
We're pretty open-minded actually. I am surprised this didn't happen before. It should have happened before!
Stop the hatting you guys! Everybody's entitled to love.
Please pass Cyberbulling laws and send the rotten queen to this third world country!
well there ya go ya worthless queen there a good place for you to go! I bet 1 million $$ you wouldn't last a week!
Spain is not that catholic AT ALL. I am Spaniard and our Constitution says Spain is a "LAY country" And gay marriage is legal here since 2004, it´s not a big deal for us…I hope Portugal legalizes it too!
Re: Honk_If_You_Hate_Perez – Really? Have you ever SEEN a cock? And the capital is Lisboa (Lisbon in English), not Lesbon. If you want to make dumb jokes try having a little culture first!
Anyway I'm portuguese and I didn't see this coming. It was sort of out of the blue. It was approved yesterday in council but the president has the final word. Considering he's conservative I have my doubts if he'll approve it, but even if he doesn't it's only a matter of time til it's legal. Adoption's out of the picture though. I agree that people deserve equal rights, but Perez you always say this about gay marriage and then you constantly bash women… Double standards?
Good for them, but kind of hard to believe this could occur in such a Catholic dominated country.
Re: QueenHater – Do your research. Portugal is NOT a third-world country. Portugal is a beautiful developed country and it has the world's 19th highest quality-of-life, according to The Economist Intelligence Unit. It is the 14th most peaceful and the 13th most globalized country in the world. It is a member of the European Union (joined the then EEC in 1986, leaving the EFTA where it was a founding member in 1960) and the United Nations; as well as a founding member of the Latin Union, the Organization of Ibero-American States, OECD, NATO, Community of Portuguese Language Countries, the European Union's Eurozone, and also a Schengen state.
Its a good place to live.
Yay Portugal!
Good Lord, Perez. You are a freak.
Re: Merab – dude what the hell, you know NOTHING about Portugal.
I hope the President and Parliament all vote "yes".
Now, if only America could open its mind
I love Portugal!!!!! They do know how to party. Well…..great news, maybe the other countries in Euro will follow suit.
This should have been done a loooong time ago.
I mean, I voted for Socrates this year hoping that the gays could get a chance of equality, since he promised he would try to run that by Parliament.
And if, like these haters are saying, you want to move here, you will be very wormly welcomed, at least by me.
Anytime you want to visit the beautiful city of Aveiro, the Veneza of Portugal, ring and I'll be your host
USA behind the times yet again
Being Portuguese, and here on vacation now, I am proud that this country is making such a stride towards equality like this! I can only wish the US would do the same. This country is made up of many conservative catholics who won't be too happy about this but its not about pleasing the majority, its about doing what is right! I hope it passes!
soo many gays here!! the gay country XD
Sounds like a great place to move if you are tired of the "US" oppression of Gays.. Portugal needs to increase its population. Should really improve their birth rates… opps, (oh wait, god made it imposible for 2 men or 2 women to concieve a child) Wonder why god did that?? hmm
Just more proof that you really do not give a RATS ASS about being accepted for who you are, your real goal is to change everyone else.
Re: dreia85 – "This country is made up of many conservative catholics who won't be too happy about this but its not about pleasing the majority, its about doing what is right!
How Democratic
Re: scosta – Love has NOTHING to do with it. It is all about making everyone as immoral as they are so they don't feel bad..
i think everyone should b able 2 marry who they want even if they r gay… they have rights 2
Our Parliament probably will vote yes but our president won't.
It's a shame but our president is most likely to veto that proposal. He didn't said a thing about gay marriage itself but in the last few days his speeches are all about family value and children so it's pretty much obvious that he's against it. But sooner or later it will pass, I hope. Yey for the gay xD
