Avatar Has A Disappointing Opening Weekend!

There's $500 million dollars shot to hell!

The most expensive movie ever made has FAILED at the box office.

To be fair, for any other flick, it would have been a rather impressive opening. But considering the $$$ and time put into this thing, we expected a lot more.

James Cameron's Avatar raked in a mere $73 million dollars in it's opening weekend here in the states. (It did a little better worldwide- $232.2 million.)

To put that into perspective for you - New Moon earned $72.7 million dollars in it's FIRST DAY of release, pulling in $125 million domestically over it's opening weekend.

Then again, it didn't have a blizzard on the East Coast to compete with. (Although, we gather there isn't much that would keep a Twi-hard from seeing their fave vamp and werewolf!)

Here's hoping they'll bring in some much needed funds throughout the week!

Did any of U see the flick?

      Re: twilightfan8

Hey moron, before you insult a whole country, try to come up with a better name….twilightbitch.
      .
      .
The movie did great considering the snowstorm in the east coast….but you're such a fucking moron that you can't think for yourself. Keep believing everything this fat fuck feeds you.
      .
      .
BTW: Twilight sucks….so I guess you do too eh? ;)

    4. 204

FAILURE??? WTF, Perez?! $230 Million worldwide in one weekend does NOT constitute a failure. Plus this movie was original and amazing. It was beautiful to look at and so was Sam Worthington.

    5. 205

You really cannot be that dumb. Do you want what statistical analysis is Perez? Do you know that if a movie is nearly 3 hours long, it will take a little longer to match or surpass a movie that neatly fits under 2 hours given that both movies are on the same number of screens because the shorter movie will have at least one extra showing a day? So any marketing statistician would tell you your information is faulty. There is no one in Hollywood with credibility that would dare call "Avatar" a disappointment. Again, I still don't know why I bother to come to this site…….I will say, the day will come sooner than later, all those bridges you have burned in the entertainment community will insure a very, very nasty downfall for you that will be celebrated in nearly every segment of the entertainment world.
Your hateful attacks on certain celebrities while praising the mindless, sluts like Britney Spears will come back to haunt you big time. And schadenfreude will be the order of the day for most anyone that have had the unfortunate opportunity of reading your juvenile comments.

    6. 206

it was such an awesome movie.

    7. 207

I don't get why people come to Perez's site just to complain about him/his post - y'all must love controversy. He probably made this post to get all your panties in bunch!

    8. 208

What a moron… It is James Cameron, even if the box office $ wasn't a new record breaker, the movie will make squillions in DVD sales.

    9. 209

how is that disappointing? its number one in the box office, and critics love it -.-

    10. 210

I don't understand how a movie had a "failure opening" when we had to drive 45 miles away to see a show that wasn't SOLD OUT a day in ADVANCE. We saw it in IMAX 3D. EPIC. Freakin' EPIC!!!

    11. 211

this movie was IN-EFFING-CREDIBLE. it will absolutley make it's money back. and perez ('s people), it is just a rumor that it cost that much to make. either way, it will surpass and as word of mouth and award seasons come on, it will just make more money. this was the most visually stunning movie i have ever seen, ten fold. imax 3d is the way to go with this film FOR SURE! i can't wait to see it again!!

    12. 212

Titanic did 20 something in hit opening week end….

    13. 213

this movie was amazing! the imagine was just great. it has so many real issues to think about like th enviornment and how the military has all their soldiers brainwashed….gosh such a good film! you all should watch it! i thought it was going to be like really bad but turned out to be such an amazing film! go se it!

First of all I saw the previews for this avatar movie and was not amused by what I saw. The thought of seeing it had not even crossed my mind. When
I read through the reviews I quickly realized that it was worth the risk of
paying $40 for a sitter for two infants, driving in the rain to a crowded mall during one of the busiest shopping days, trying to find parking, then shelling out $25 cold hard cash for a pair very ugly glasses. I am very hard to please and like many on here not a big sci fi fan. I felt this film appealed to just about every genre and has set the bar to a whole new level. I don't think I
will ever view movies the same way. You will experience the film as if you are in it, it was awesome, amazing and I WILL see it again and again, I will recommend to everyone I know, I will buy the DVD. Back to you and your comment Perez. I would have kept that opinion to myself if I were you, it is only going to make you look very foolish. I am putting money on the fact that you did not see the movie and are just looking for something to blog about.
The only thing that fails miserably is your ability to write tactfully and truthfully in the way that once branded you "the queen of media". I would not be surprised to see you working at the counter of a fast food joint before long. I was once your biggest supporters but this post was the last straw for me, you've lost yet another fan…

    15. 215

Not sure if anyone said this yet but it is one of the first movies to sell out mostly in 3D. I know the movies on tuesday nights showings were sold out.
All those tickets cost more than regular tickets so the money will add up fast if you are going just off the ticket sales. By the way, see it in 3D…You gotta experience it for the full effect…Seriously I have never said this about any movie before …You GOTTA see this, you will love it…It is worth every cent and amount of time. I actually left wanting more!!!! I will see it again…Go see it..:)

    16. 216

That is exactly what I said too, but believe me it is worth it. So worth it. It
will totally catch you off guard. You will go in expecting it to be bad or
whatever and you will leave wanting to see it again.
I left thinking WOW, this was so awesome…There were people lined outside the movie at near midnight talking about how great it was!! Usually people make a beeline for the door to rush to pee or go straight home. It was by far the best movie I have seen, EVER visually. Not a movie that has been made yet can touch it and unless you see it in theatres you will miss the new technological advance that has been made. It is soooooo worth it.

    17. 217

because we are free to shit on him the way he shits on everyone else it is fair game and it is freedom of speech and opinion. Why should we not dish back what is dished out? It is only fair.

    18. 218

      LOL good one!!

    19. 219

Really and what would a better movie would have been there Ms/Mr professional movie writer or plot developer that you are? Lets hear some
ideas you have that have not been done before? Just because it has been done doesn't mean it has been done like that before. Get real. Pochohantas can't touch this movie

    20. 220

Looking at who you have listed for your favorite stars I can see why you didnt like it. Sorry Justin Timberlake was not able to except the role otherwise you
      might have found it enjoyable.

    21. 221

      Re: citycruick – well said.

I cannot wait to see it.

    22. 222

This was the 1st movie I saw in 3-D.. Very Visually stunning.
