Red Hot Chili Peppers' Guitarist Quits

Guitarist John Frusciante has quit the Red Hot Chili Peppers, confirming the news on his MySpace:

“To put it simply, my musical interests have led me in a different direction. I really love the band and what we did. Over the last 12 years, I have changed, as a person and artist, to such a degree that to do further work along the lines I did with the band would be to go against my own nature.

"There was no choice involved in this decision. I simply have to be what I am, and have to do what I must do.”

Frusciante previously left the band back in 1992 but returned for the Chili Peppers' latest albums Californication, By The Way and Stadium Arcadium. The band is working on their next album without Frusciante.

Best of luck to him!

THAT SUCKS. HES AN AWESOME GUITAR PLAYER

    2. 2

Good luck, John. You're the best. You inspire me to be the best I can be. I will continue to support you and your music. You will always be the greatest guitarist ever, to me at least. Take care!!

Are you fucking kidding me? Old news.

      Welcome Dave Navarro then…

    8. 8

Your own READERS were reporting this to you several days ago when you posted that inane picture of Anthony Kiedis riding a motorcycle. DAYS ago. Just shows you don't even pay attention to your readers anymore much less celeb news.

    9. 9

He's allegedly the douche that gave River Phoenix the fatal speedball Halloween night 1993.

    10. 10

Damn! What a loss! RHCP did all their best work with John his voice is the harmony in that band that I always listen for.

    11. 11

no no no no!!!! Frusciante is a genius! no no no no

    12. 12

Re: SIlent_Majority – word! this is old news. they'll be fine without john, and he'll be fine on his own.

    13. 13

hahaha he quit a year ago this news broke like a week ago… way to stay on top of things.

    14. 14

frusciante himself makes the better music anyway.

    15. 15

don't let the door hit you on the way out dude

    16. 16

RHCP died in the late 80's when Hillel Slovak died. They never recovered IMHO. RHCP used to be so much fun back in the day before Blood Sugar Sex.

    17. 17

Stick a fork in the chili peppers then…they are done without him. He was the creative heart and soul of the band and he wrote all their classic riffs.

How can they follow Stadium Arcadium? They cannot. They should just hang it up now before they release some suck-ass album with some no name guitar player.

Remember the one album with Navarro? Me neither. It sucked.

    18. 18

old news! this came out last week.

and you got the 1992 thing wrong…he didn't quit he was asked to leave b/c he was massively hooked on heroin and Flea and Anthony Keidis couldn't have him in the band because they were recovering addicts from their own heroin addictions. he came back once he got clean.

no worries, they'll just stick Dave Navarro back in, that was rather kickass. RHCP goes through guitarists like nothing.

    19. 19

This will truly be a great loss to the Red Hot Chili Pepper's once again. He's a very talented and complex guy who has been through a lot. With that being said I am not surprised he's leaving but I will be forever thankful to him for his input on the last few albums he did with RHCP.

    20. 20

This was reported on Yahoo 2 days ago. WTG Perez!

RHCP are over anyway. Nobody will notice or care. They just keep making the same stupid, redundant album over and over. Douche addict music

    22. 22

well atleast this means more time dedicated to his solo projects, which in my opinion are better than anything the chilli peppers have been putting out for a while.

    23. 23

I love John Frusciante. He totally kills it live and on the albums, but if he needs to venture out, let him…He'll come back one day.

    24. 24

Re: Gambitgirl – You clearly don't know anything about JF and RHCP. In 1992, he left himself, abruptly, they even had to convince him to play the last show in Japan before leaving home the next day. He was never kicked out. Once upon a time Flea kicked Anthony out of the band, perhaps that's what you actually were thinking of?

John's a great guy and I'm looking forward to his new solo albums and collabs. Since this is the first time he ever appeared on this website, that means there's no dirt on him, which makes him pretty unique and honest in this ugly world where image is put over people's actual professions.

Also, the band's working with Josh Klinghoffer and thanks to people like you, Dave Navarro, who is in Jane's Addiction and probably has no reason to ever think about RHCP again, is getting spammed with stupid comments.

On another note, WHAT am I doing on this website? O_o

    25. 25

      WORST NEWS EVER!

SINCE JOHN JOINED THE BAND AFTER HILEL DIED RHCP WERE ABLE TO GROW AND MAKE MAGIC.

WHEN HE LEFT BECAUSE HE WAS SICK IT WAS A SAD TIME IN PEPPERVILLE.

THEN HE CAME BACK AND MADE THINGS BETTER AND BETTER AND BETTER AGAIN.

MY HEART IS BROKEN…THERE IS NO SANTA CLAUS:(

    26. 26

      1) Whats with the constant old news. It's not like you would even notice this since you've "gone hollywood", "jumped the shark" ..kinda sad

      2) One of the first cd's beside STP (Core) i listend to that got me into what i'm into now was "Red Hot Chili Peppers" (Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic) Fucking Sick Record. The happy foursome had so much influence. I repsect john leaving but it sucks. Bad Enough Dava Navarro did "One Hot Minute" , which wasn't one of their good ones.

      Good Luck John :-)

    27. 27

He's great but as long as Flea and Anthony are in the band, that's what really makes RHCP. With a new guitarist they can get even more creative. They had Hillel, Dave Navarro and others and still made it through with other guitarists.

    28. 28

Re: smellyhonkey – Ya, but I still love 'em! Specially Flea, with all he does for kids and music.
I happen to find something I love out of every project they do.
      :)

      32

Maybe this is for the best. I didn't think much of their recent albums. "Californication" was the last great one.

    33. 33

He is the best part of that band. It was really obvious to me for the period that he left… I hope Dave Navarro doesn't return in his place.

I'm soooo upset. I live so far away from US, and my dream was to see one day RHCP with John!!! And now this dream will never come true. I can't believe.. John i love you anyway, wish you good luck and still hope to see you..

    35. 35

wow this is ridiculously old. I know I always complain about old news but…. seriously, i heard about this on the RADIO Friday… which means it made news on Thursday. Like someone else said here… wtf am I still reading? maybe Perez will return to his former, actually-working self… the stars have blinded you, dude.

    36. 36

OH my god. You never stop to amaze me…DAYS ago when you(or your sister, whatever) wrote about the exciting news of Anthony Kiedis riding his motorcycle this had just about been announced. People even mentioned it in the commentaries and you write about it NOW, really?

      37

You printed a picture of Anthony riding a motorcycle last week over this news and the fact that the RHCPs were nominated but ultimately not inducted into the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame on their first year eligible over ABBA.
      In other news:
      Amelia Earhart is missing.
The Hindinburg exploded upon arrival in NJ.

      I love you!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck
      :(

    40. 40

About time! He obviously got sick of playing the same retarded, over-simplistic, juvenile tunes. Any self-respecting musician would have to quit that pathetic shit at some point, no matter how much money was being thrown at them.

[re=4611577]Re: WatchGuardian Remember the one album with Navarro? Me neither. It sucked.
      [/re]

Actually 2-3 songs did VERY WELL. And it's one of my favorite. It showed a more "rock" oriented RHCP. I listen to it still to this day.

    42. 42

[re=4612199]Re: pusspuss He is the best part of that band. It was really obvious to me for the period that he left… I hope Dave Navarro doesn't return in his place.
      [/re]

I hope he doesn't join either. Not because he wasn't good enough for them, but because he doesn't do what they do. He is more rock/alternative oriented.

      Jane's Addiction > RHCP
