Since new contract talks are about to begin in 2010, Howard Stern sees a prime opportunity to play hardball with Sirius Radio. Too bad he hasn't thought his plan all the way through!
He is threatening to walk if he isn't given more money, but with no place to go, it doesn't come off as much of a threat. Sirius is the only satellite station left that has the funds to pay him and allow him to provide his uncensored entertainment. He could move back to AM, but he would have to prepare himself to be a whole lot less racy and still get a smaller paycheck.

I know your a fan of Howard which makes me surprised your such an idiot. Let's look at with some simple math for you regarding other venues. Howard could easily go create his own show and pod cast it, charge $10 a month. Say he brings over 5 million listeners, he brought at least 8 million to satelite. That would be $600,000,000 a year. Now that is all using conservative numbers. Howard can demand what he wants, Sirius XM would be wrong to let him go. The car industry is in the gutter and that is where all there growth outside shows like Howards comes from. So Wake Up White People, pretend you are half way inteligent!
Actually he doesn't really want to go anywhere. If he does not renew his contract at sirius he's looking forward to just retiring and he also really hates radio, he would never go back no matter how much they offer. So why the article, you listen to his show, I'm sure you know he's not loosing any sleep because of work!
Howard has enough money to retire for sure- And his kids are set for life either way. I am sure it does not matter much to him. It will be Siruis's Loss if Howard leaves. I'm just curious. Where the hell do you get this information from? Howard has always talked about leaving radio. Even since the day he started on Sirius four years ago. Are you just plain bored and have nothing better to write about? I'm also wondering when Stern actually said this, being that he hasn't been on the air since Thursday of last week, and he is off for the next 2 weeks due to the holidays. Let's discuss gossip that's a little more relevant, shall we?

Funny how you wait until Howard goes on Vacation to post something like this. Howard has only been talking about the end of his contract for the last 6 months. He has stated over and over and over again that he would NEVER go back to Terrestrial radio. To say Howard hasn't thought something through is Absurd. Howard is meticulous in everything he does. Sirius better pray he doesn't retire because hey will be up shits creek w/out the paddle. If Howard goes they can say goodbuy to 7 or 8 million subscribers.
Reality check, for Howard Stern? He brought over such a huge audience it saved Sirius from bankrupcy. He's the only reason why most of us has a subscription to sirius. He goes, most of us go. He doesn't need to work anymore. He's ready for retirement. He is the king of all media. And he is valuable to any company from any media outlet. He is a pretty powerful guy. Put him on TV and he'd snatch the audience from someone else. He always has a place to go. And should always get the money he deserves.
Perez, I love your site, but please make sure you check your facts before posting things like this. Howard has spoken publicly about other media alternatives such as the internet which would allow him to still be racy. Howard doesn't so much want more money, but a less demanding schedule. He has alluded to doing fewer shows per week, starting later in the morning, etc. I do not think he will take less than $100 million per year (which is what his current contract calls for…at least averaged out over the 5-year period).
Howard can be attributed to bringing in millions of listeners to Sirius. I, myself, pay Sirius over $100 per year just to listen to howard. If he only brought in one million listeners, then Sirius breaks even (at least as far as paying Stern's salary). However, it is speculated that he has brought in more than 3 million listeners. Mel Karmazin (sp?), CEO of Sirius/XM, is a bright man and has worked with Stern in the past, and I am sure that he knows they will lose a large chunk of the faithful Howard Stern listeners if a new contract is not negotiated.
Howard has plenty of money and could retire today. I just hope that Karmazin has the wherewithall to know how to keep subscribers. Afterall, Howard is the King of All Media and is the best source of entertainment EVER on the radio (and arguable the best source of entertainment in all media avenues).
OMG! WOW! Perez really doesn't check the news that he receives. I am an avid Stern listener and Howard has stated that if he doesn't renew his contract with Sirius XM that he will retire from radio….nothing about going anywhere else. He has expressed time and time again that he doesn't EVER want to go back to terrestrial radio.
He does not need the money. He could retire or work for less any time he wants. Let's be honest here though. He has become irrelevant since he moved to Sirius. I know of NO ONE who went to Sirius to listen to him, nor do I cannot remember the last time his name came up in any conversation or news article since he moved to Sirius. I am not sure that I would listen for free these days. I do not think that I would appreciate his humor any longer.

I was going to say a lot of the same things as the rest of the people, but you should probably issue a new release apologizing. Howard deserves the money, and nobody is offering because they know there is no chance.. he doesnt want them. If its not sirius, he will create his own form of media, and believe me it will be successful. There are lots of new and emerging technologies that would allow internet subscriptions(received via phone/car device) and all money would go to him, and not be used to keep that sinking ship xm/sirius afloat. He's trying to negotiate for having to work less days… so he might get less but for less hours worked(WHILE earning $$ on other projects.

This is all a joke. Without Stern Sirius is dead in the water, they know it. The music stations are ok but not worth $12 a month. This satellite technology for music is pretty much obsolete. Streaming content will win hands down. Sirius is just the middle man.

Perez please think before you blog… Stern is 55 years old and probably doing radio longer than you have been alive. He does nothing but promote Sirius and the "hardball" he is playing is trying to decide whether or not to stop working and just enjoy life or continue working and keeping hundreds of people employed.
Sirius has yet to make a profit. He was given a lot of stock in the company, he figured his presence would make Sirius a huge success & that stock would go through the roof. Well the stock tanked, they spent a fortune on him & they still have not made any money yet! None! He's lucky to have a job.
Anybody who listens to Howard knows that he's been threatening to not renew his contracts, whether terrestrial or satellite, for years. He's only in his early 50s and probably not quite ready to retire. Also, I don't think he'd hang Sirius out to dry like that.

I have no problem with you posting anything about Howard as long as it's the truth. You know nothing about the goings-on regarding Howard's upcoming contract expiration. I listen to him every day, and judging from some of the Howard-related posts you've made, it appears you don't listen at all.
You are so lucky that you posted that just as Howard begins his Christmas vacation.
