John Kerry's Wife Treated For Breast Cancer

Mammograms DO save lives!
Teresa Heinz, wife of U.S. Senator John Kerry, is revealing that she has been treated for breast cancer and is coming forth with the information now because of the controversial guidelines from the U.S. Preventative Service Task Force that advise women under 50 no longer get annual mammograms!
Heinz writes in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
"The cancer was detected at an early stage thanks to a mammogram and the work of a remarkable physician who insisted on investigating beyond what the mammogram could show. I have had two operations and my prognosis for a full recovery is good.
"As any woman can attest, mammograms can be nerve racking. And as the government's task force pointed out, they can produce misleading results and anxiety. But Ive' been personally reminded that they can also produce something else: a lifesaving early diagnosis."
See, ladies!
It's very important to take care of those tittays!

Ummm … this news was old two days ago. You not only have lost the edge you had a few years ago, you have pretty much gone over the edge into utter worthlessness.
Good for her!! Take notes on how to be a good role model all you fame hos!!!!
all the best to her!
They literally live a matter of buildings away from my home on Beacon Hill here in Boston. I had no idea she was going through this. Good for her telling her story and speaking on behalf of mammograms in a thoughtful way recognizing their benefits as well as limitations.

Perez's writer, I can see your desire to keep everything a little light but that last sentence is kind of demeaning to women.
Where the frak have you been, Mario? This is old news!
As far as I can tell, she is far over the age of 50, which is when the recommendations suggest screening start. So, it really doesn't speak to new recommendations at all. The choice to make practice guidelines about screening is based on epidemiologic data (incidence of the disease in an age demographic for example) and the effectiveness of a certain screening test to reliably rule in a condition (its specificity for what you are testing). One of the reasons mammography is not recommended in a younger age group is because it doesn't reliably do that and there are an unacceptable number of "false positives" which means more unecessary tests, even procedures like biopsies or lumpectomy.
She's right .. good statements. Good luck for a full recovery.
ewww. was that last sentance really neccasary? why not just finish every post with the words 'we hate women' and have done with it?
Oh prayers.
Damn. Stay strong, Teresa!
Ummm? Are they celebrities? I didn't realize that politicians are now celebrities. Opps, I forgot Obama started that trend.
Ladies it's our bodies let's take care of it. If I feel or suspect something I am having it checked out and I don't need the goverment to tell me when or not. Brave lady best of luck to her.
