On Wednesday night, James Cameron channelled his inner Scrooge when he was approached by a fan asking the director to sign his Avatar poster. James refused and walked away from the guy, but being a true fan means never taking no for an answer.
The guy asks again and James loses it, screaming at the guy, "I don't owe you a fucking signature … just get out of my fucking personal space."
Whoa! Hostile!
Considering the response he got, the fan became disgruntle and asked a perfectly legitimate question:
"I make $15-an-hour at work to go see your film and I'm an asshole?"
Guess so buddy, although we wouldn't happen to agree.
The real assholes of the world are the ones who don't appreciate the people who help them achieve the success they are lucky enough to have.

The only thing is, the "fan" who wanted the poster signed was probably going to sell it on Ebay or something for huge bucks, and nothign else.
He did the same thing to my sister after Titanic. She saw him at an event and simply asked for an autograph. He was rude. Refused And started to lecture my sister. But she's no push over. She went off on him like this guy. She saw Titanic 10 times and he was still a dick wad.
Cameron is correct, he doesn't owe anyone anything, and hounding someone for an autograph is indeed asshole behavior, not to mention pathetic fetishization of an artist's scribble.
I agree with James here, he made a movie, a dude paid to watch the movie, the dude probably liked it (I at least did), the dude got exactly what he paid for. But then again he could easily handled it in a more positive way. Kinda think the fan is a dick for asking when he already got declined, and James being a dick for handling it too excessively…
I haven't seen Avatar, and now I never will. In fact, I will never spend another dime on a James Cameron movie. We're assholes? F you, buddy. I urge others to stay away from his crap as well.

Normally I'd say that everybody should not have to be bothered by people constantly coming up to them with requests like this. HOWEVER, when you get paid as much as Cameron does for as little work as he does, and all your money depends on people going to see your movies, you need to suck it up and not be a dick to your fans.

Wow - James Cameron was my favorite director. Not any longer. His ego has definitely gotten too big. It takes 2 seconds to scrawl your signature down - longer than it took for Cameron to curse at the guy. To paraphrase Cameron, he's "King of the Assholes"

What amazes me, is how people say "WE pay to see your movies!!!" You have FREEDOM OF CHOICE. Secondly, give ME a job that pays $15 an hour!!! So one hour of his day pays for an entire movie, popcorn and drinks and that entitles him to hassle? Lastly, "WE" pay EVERYONE'S salary - it's not like you get paid for doing nothing for anyone else. When I go to McD's, it's not like because I bought the food and paid the worker's salary with it, that I have the right to invade their personal space and hound them. When I make a product for my own biz, it doesn't entitle my customers to stalk me and then complain about how much money they make. He made a product, people bought it. It doesn't mean he has to appease them further. He paid for the ticket for the MOVIE - not access to the man 24/7. He didn't pay to get an autograph whenever he felt like walking up to the man. I'm torn on this - I feel as a public persona you should have a certain expection of having your picture taken and having peeps want your autograph. If it is done tactfully and not while they are eating or having a private moment I don't see the harm in scribbling your name - AS LONG AS IT ISN'T SOMEONE WITH A WHOLE STACK OF CRAP THEY'RE GOING TO RESELL ON EBAY - but I can also see JC's point. While he was an asshole for not signing he said no once and that should have been that. Guys like this need to remember why they're getting that multi-million dollar check though…the fans.

The money that is earned from box office goes to the studios and in rare cases a small percent goes to the actor/director. The salaries for actors and directors get paid from advertisement money. Pepsi pays universal 20 mil and that finances the movies. Everyday millions of people buy pepsi, people who don't look at this guys movies. Also I hate the fat f&cks retarded logic that just because your "famous" or rich your soul belongs to the world. People pay ,by free will, to buy whatever crap they want, that does not mean I am entitled to come up to you on the street and ask for an autograph.
