Closing So Soon?!

Nothing lasts forever, especially Broadway shows!

On January 4th, several productions on the Great White Way will be ending their run and they're not necessarily bombs.

The acclaimed Superior Donuts will be closing, along with Bye Bye Birdie and Carrie Fisher's Wishful Drinking.

Although some shows are maintaining their buzz despite their long runs, such as Ragtime, Burn the Floor, Hair, Memphis, God of Carnage and Fela!

We loves us the theater! Can't will till we get to see some more shows, but we'll skip that Ass in Chicago!

Bye Bye Birdie wasn't very good…Gina Gershon can't sing to save her life…plus it's nothing without Ann Margaret!!

I really can't stand these articles about Broadway on your website. Most shows are closing on January 3RD NOT THE 4TH. Bye Bye Birdie closes on January 24th and Wishful Drinking closes on January 17th, but they don't count as they were suppose to be limited engagements anyway and got extended. Ragtime is closing on January 3rd. Might wanna get some info before writing articles that are wrong.

Hey Perez, despite being a fantastic production of a fantastic show, Ragtime is actually doing awfully an just posted it's closing notice, and will end it's run on the 3rd.

      Check yo' facts!

You saw the words "Donuts" and "Closing down" and got sad didn't you fat boy.

Well, Perazhole, if you "love the theater", then you enjoy going to movies shown via a projector on a screen. On the other hand, if you "love the theatre", then you enjoy attending live performances created for you viewing pleasure, because "theatre" does not exist without a live performance. Theater, theatre..very different meanings.

Um, Perez, Ragtime is closing. Just to let you know, Bye, Bye Birdie announced it's closing ages ago (so you are once again extremely late on your announcement) and Plays (unless they are the second coming) never run long anymore. Just because you are gay, doesn't mean you have to pretend like you know anything at all about musicals…because you don't.

Also, 'Memphis', 'Burn the Floor', 'Fela!' and 'Ragtime' have NOT been opened that long….your theater reporting is so annoying.

Tell your mom and sister to lay off the baby talk.
They are trying to imitate you, but doing badly.

I saw Ashley Simpson Wentz in Chicago. It was my 2nd time seeing the show and I was honestly really concerned and worried that she was going to be a diasaster! Honestly, she surprised me. Yes, her vocals left a little something to be desired but she was really charismatic and had a GREAT energy and she looked like she was having an amazing time. She did not disappoint me overall and I am hard to please. Perez, I would actually suggest you check it out given the opportunity. You might find yourself liking her a little bit more. I've never been a fan of hers- EVER! I left Chicago as a sort of fan!

The Roundabout Theatre Company's LIMITED-RUN Broadway revival of Bye Bye Birdie opened to mostly negative reviews on October 15, 2009 and was scheduled to close January 10, 2010 before it was extended until April 25th, 2010. However, due to poor advance sales after the expiration of lead actors John Stamos and Gina Gershon's contracts, the closing date was moved up to January 24th, 2010. Don't hold your breath waiting for Tony recognition.

Superior Donuts opened to middle of the road reviews but is currently playing to 50% capacity theaters, therefore it will be closing on 1/3/10, but you may see a couple of nominations come Tony time.
Wishful Drinking was set for a limited engagement that was to end Jan. 3rd. Of note: it has been running at only 60% theater capacity. It was well received critically and in my opinion is a lock for a Tony nomination.

ACTUALLY People, Bye Bye Birdie Is a Pretty awesome Showw. Im going back for the 3rd time soon! I kinda Agree with the whole gina Thing, But the Teenagers are WHat Makes The SHow Really Great! I Mean Allie Trimm Has Such an amazing Voice! The Teenagers have so Much Energy and give so Much "spark" to the Show, If i were you I would see it before it closes!
