Disney Digs Deep Into Marvel's Sack Of Obscure Superheros

As we reported earlier this summer, Disney has bought out Marvel Comics for a big chunk of $$$ to expand their empire into the superhero realm.
The industry has been waiting to see what the House of Mouse plans to do with its acquisition and now there are talks that the Disney execs will be looking to make big money off of relatively unknown superheros.
The theory going around is that Disney will be looking to make more original franchises out of Marvel characters few people have ever heard of, since the bigger names are already taken by other investors. Execs are hoping moviegoers will get attached to heroes like Ant-Man and other lame ass characters like that.
Yeah, we'd rather they put some of their dough into saving Spider-Man the musical than a movie about a guy who talks to ants, or whatever it is he does.
Don't U agree?

I heard they're bringing to life a character that MJ created called "Fondle Boy"
fuck black people!
The source states "It's all about the other 5,000 characters that you and I don't even know about yet." I will be happy to never know about them, thank you very much.
do your research. ant-man (hank pym) is a well-known marvel character. although i'm not quite sure what disney would want with a character who is widely known to be an abusive husband…
after "barbie" movie, the most idiot idea of the winter!
um no. they can stick with antman
Aqua Man?
Gotta give that role to "Entourage's" Adrian Grenier. LOL.
fuck, don't talk shit about what you don't know. it makes you look ignorant.
They should make"Alpha Flight" a group who was first introduced in the X-Men comic books. Wolverine's origin is closely tied to some members of that group.
Ant-man was one of the original Avengers, which they are already making a movie about.
I was SOOOOOOOOOO disapointed to hear that DISNEY of all companys took over Marvel.. BLEH. They're going to ruin something I grew up on.. Granted I also grew up on Disney — but there's a HUGE difference between Mickey Mouse and the X-men/Spider-man, etc.. UGH! And who the F cares about those unknowns anyway? If they really wanted to do something interesting they should just create new characters - and leave the other ones EXACTLY the same.. EXACTLYTHESAMEDAMNIT!!
uhh the point is … they did spider man, they did (and are still doing x-men), iron man, they have an upcoming thor, fantastic 4, silver surfer, hulk,Blade..they have done the big ones…other posters are right Ant Man is a compelling story about a guy who didn't really cut it as a hero and that was his downfall. Always trying to compete with Iron Man or Thor and not feeling adequate.
Marvel is a huge pile of stories to tell. Top on my list if I were an exec would be a She Hulk movie, A Dr. Strange Movie..maybe Nova (that would be a perfect role for Taylor Laughtner).
I agree with Agent 365. I suppose if Disney wanted to follow the trend of highly successful, grittier superhero movies then Ant-Man is the way to go. But, he's definitely not a "hero" hero. In his personal life, the shades of grey that Marvel likes to explore are much closer to black. I hope they just focus on not making First Class suck.
hey! ant-man is cool!
BEFORE Disney makes a Megamillion Colossal mistake, they had better some research and panel all the fanboys and fangirls. Might be a good/great idea to ask/quiz some cartooning and illustration and animation students from some of the top schools around the country. THEY will tell you were it is at, and what characters are viable and would have interest and life across the board.
IF THEY DON'T, THEY ARE MAKING A HUGE MISTAKE AND WASTING A LOT OF TIME.
As well as sullying the Marvel franchise.
Disney and Marvel is a good marriage..all of the good characters are tied up in movie deals with other studios. You don't need to poll fan bois and animation students… GI Joe was a toy that they re-invented into a cartoon..and made milllions of dollars…Same for transformers…They could pick any hero and make a movie…look at Blade. They made three movies from it..an pretty much unknown marvel toon…like I said Nova would be perfect..a great role for one of these tweener movie kids. I want credit if they do it.
Why don't you call them up and pitch the idea of a super-queero called Phag-man. He is out of shape and dyes his hair pink. His super-queero costume is anything he can find in his mother's or sister's closet. Phag-man doesn't actually do anything except hurl insults at famous people across the internet, most of which are completely ignored. Everybody wishes he would run afoul of the law and be incarcerated.
Oooh maybe they will do The Runaways? (not the music group) Yes, Marvel has lots of unknowns to choose from and when you get down to many of the stories they are really not for kids. (GLEN and AGENT 365, you know your stuff!bravo) Compared to a bunch of the regurgitated movies out there… I would rather, "make mine Marvel"
he's apparently a character in the Avengers… the bad group of avengers…
they want to make that movie, so they're doing all the individual characters.. i think!
I am happy disney is doing that because there are some pretty kick ass characters that most people have never heard of unless they are comic geeks. But antman FAIL!!
i'm hoping for a ms. marvel movie!!
Here's a few new superheros - the "Starhater" and the "Gerbil". He get's in your azz about crime. Please stop this, Hollyweird is licking the bottom of the barrel for ideas. How about you let a person of color give you a good movie.
Yeah, Antman is an Avengers character. They've been teasing a big Avengers project for a while now (with Sammy L as Nick Fury), so Antman is a natural progression of that. I read somewhere that they were going to get Will Arnett as Antman which is FUCKING GENIUS! So yeah, make a fucking Antman movie. I will be first in line.
