Alleged Extortionist In David Letterman Case Wants Plea Bargain?

We wonder how Dave would feel about that?

Robert Halderman, the producer accused in the extortion plot against David Letterman, is supposedly offering to plead guilty in the case in exchange for a one-year prison term as opposed to the 15 years he could potentially face if convicted!

Halderman's lawyer is denying that he made an offer saying that "there have been no plea negotiations. None whatsoever."

Halderman, who is currently out on $200,000 bail, has admitted on tape that he got involved with the extortion plan because his ex-wife moved to Colorado with their son and he needed the money to visit him.

We guess 48 Hours wasn't paying the guy enough!

Hope the guy gets more time then 1 year. Whole plot = scummy.

Well, I guess if you leave packages in people's cars with extortion letters and try to cash checks from them, the evidence pretty much speaks for itself. He knows he would be smart to plea guilty and avoid a 15-year sentence. I would if I had that much evidence against me.

Oh and one more thing, you KNOW his attorney doesn't want to plead. He would want a long, drawn-out trial for two reasons…money and publicity. He probably really doesn't want what's best for his client.

Mr. Halderman was right to get incensed that his live-in lover was screwing her married boss.

Dave Letterman has been called many things in the wake of his televised confession, but he's gotten off too easily. He lied, he cheated, he kept his mistress on payroll (did she pay taxes on that money?), he potentially exposed his wife to STDs.
Mr. Halderman will determine the endgame. D.A. Robert Morgenthau will be gone after Dec. 31, and the new guy likely doesn't give two craps about this nuisance case. Letterman's wife now has leverage and can sue his cheating ass for divorce. Then Dave will know the pain that Mr. Halderman has had to live with, being separated from his beloved child(ren),

A gentleman's honor should still be protected. Team Halderman.

Screw a settlement and I could care less if Letterman wants to squash this because of his cheating (Blackmail trumps infidelity in my book, any day).
I know the prosecutor will need David's cooperation but the guy (like Polanski) is not just guilty of a crime against a victim but also broke the laws of the state of NY (Polanski=CA) and is therefore is accountable for his crimes to the people of the state.

I'm wondering if your take isn't a bit misleading. you say he admitted he got involved in the extortion plan. If he admitted to extortion on tape then he would be all done. there would be no case. However, he (i.e. his lawyers) have been asserting that Halderman was simply trying to sell Letterman his treatment, not extort money out of him. So be very careful when you print that he admitted on tape to being involved in extortion if that is absolutely not the case, unless you want yet another defamation lawsuit levied against you

fuck that noise, put the asshole in jail for 15 years. he made his goddamn bed now let him lay in it and bite pillows while bubba pounds his delicate tv executive ass.

Re: caroaber – Halderman should have taken issue with his live in rather than terrorize Letterman. Dave had no unspoken contract with the guy, but she did. Being 'incensed' doesn't justify Halderman breaking a pretty big law. If someone wants to be with someone else, it doesn't make revenge ok.

Re: caroaber – The idiot was willing to destroy humiliate another family so he can see his own family? He might be desperate to see his children, but he also knew the risks he was putting himself into. If he got caught he would end up in jail and possibly never see the children again. Which one is worse? Having a chance to see your children or having no chance at all? I’m not on David side either.

Dave's the sleaze. I feel for the women who worked for him.
