The Jersey Shore Hates On The Jersey Shore
The Jersey Shore has become self-loathing.
The city of Seaside Heights, NJ, home for the cast of MTV's The Jersey Shore, is desperately trying to downplay any association they have with the morally questionable cast and show.
On Monday, the Borough of Seaside Heights released a statement insisting that the show did not reflect the majority of its residents or visitors and that the town "did not solicit, promote or participate in the filming" of the show.
So those permits the show got to shoot on the boardwalk and clubs in Seaside, they just appeared out of thin air, right?
And all those people in the clubs, the ones that look exactly like the cast with their greased up hair and fake tans, MTV hired all of those people for continuity, right?
Accept who you are Jersey! Besides, if you're worried about bad tourism, there's no need. The kind of people who come to your beaches would relish the idea of getting the chance to be on TV.
So no worries, they'll still come in droves!

This show makes everyone look really bad and dumb.. and none of my friends or their friends act like this.. well honestly, they arent alll like that on the Jersey Shore, my friends are jersey natives and love the shore, and i can promise you they are NOT like those idiots on the show. mtv does hire lots of actors for certain shows, a lot of the stuff is scripted and you should know that bc you knock the hills and the city all the time! they could've also went to the hot spots where all of their kind hang out, trust me not all of the jersey shore is guido city!

While I enjoy the show cause i used to go to the jersey shore, and it is amusing to make fun of those people the same way i used to in person….jersey is certainly not like that….our proximity to ny makes us much more hip than say you floridians……where you dress like cuban druglords…..it is true, there are people like that, but theyre from staten island, long island, queens ny, and of course jersey…..on new years eve when i get ready to leave my suburban 5 room colonial for the heart of manhattan(10 minute drive) and i slip on my suede ferragamo's…..i will look in the mirror, see an extreme non-guido and say…..damn it's good to live in jersey!

Ok, Perez….being born and raised in South Jersey the show is a total insult and complete bull! As a faithful resident of South Jersey…we like to separate ourselves from the north part of this state….we are completely different people. I'm not saying that the northern part of this state just contains guidos! Just saying that we are soooo different and they would agree.
Get your facts straight first of all. Yes, there are Guidos and Guidettes that flock from OUT OF STATE to the Jersey Shore…therefore…not representing Jersey. ok perez, this is the first time i've ever commented on one of your posts and i'm on your website everyday. i've lived in NJ my whole life and i have been to the jersey shore every summer. i urge you to come visit our beaches for a summer and see for yourself how this show really shames them before you are so quick to comment on what you think New Jersey is really like. i love your website but i am very proud of the state of New Jersey and it's because of comments like yours that give it such a bad image. come visit and see for yourself.
i live on the jersey shore near atlantic city year ’round. (on an island actually) and yes in the summertime places like long beach island, wildwood, and seaside heights tend to cater to a younger partying crowd. going in to college it is true that guys constantly work on their fitness and girls on their tanning, this is just a fact of the new jersey life. granted the rest of us have consistent downgrade jobs and we dont drink and f**k each other every chance we get, a friday and saturday night at the clubs on the jersey shore are not any different than how the show is representing them. kids are just having a good time thats all…saying that the entire coast-line should not be summarized in a mtv television edited show and negative comments are never okay about US. just sayin'
I'm from a couple of towns away from Seaside Heights. The people on The Jersey Shore show are nothing like the actual locals of "the Jersey Shore" (which is what you tourists call it). The reason why where they film is filled with other guidos is because locals avoid guido hangouts! OBVIOUSLY we know where tourist assholes like to go and so we avoid those places! Our area is a million times better when it is not the summer and the BENNYs are gone!

as much as i think you're usually so funny, not everyone who goes to the Jersey shore is like that. i think people are too hype on the show, but don't make rude, incredibly too general statements about the people who vacation at the Jersey shore.
i was born and raised on the jersey shore and ever since i can remember, we have HATED all the NEW YORKERS that come to our beaches for the summer and give us a bad name. i absolutely hate the show Jersey Shore because it is not the truth. Seaside is one of the worst towns on the Jersey shore and is certianly not representative of the shore. I grew up in Mataloking which is a beautiful affluent town…others around it like Belmar, Manasquan, Sea Girt to name a few are beautiful places filled with wonderful, kind people. Now that I live in Orange COunty California, I wish there were more people here like there are in the shore. Kind, respectful, fun people!!

Now Perez, I love you, but this show is exactly what it is trying to be…a stereotype of new jersey. I grew up at the "jersey shore" in south jersey…and not to sound rude, but we are a high class, more exclusive area that does not cater to trash like that. In fact, I know for a fact MTV had approached our island several times for show ideas, and every time they got voted to get the heck out of town. As for Seaside….around here we know it as sleaze side of seaslime. Not because of the area itself, but because of all the NY trash it attracts. Hence, the new york trash that went to the "shore" for the summer for this MTV show. Judging all of the jersey shore by this show is the same thing as judging all of California by the plastic in LA (and I can comment…I now am a west coast resident..but not LA thank god!).
I actually live in seaside park and its not like that at all!! In the summer, yeah the heights gets a little guido but its not to the extent that mtv is making it.. I hate when people ask me if thats how jersey is, because its not and its so annoying, ughhh!
im from pt pleasant which is five minutes from seaside.. the clubs that the cast goes to are where all the guidos hang out.. all the bennies come from upnorth and go to those specific guido clubs.. those are the people that we make fun of when they come down.. there obnoxious and no one around here is like that. as you can see .. Ok, so yes, Seaside Heights is definitely "Guido"-central. However, having grown up at the Jersey Shore, I've never seen people act like that at other Jersey beaches. Seaside Heights, Bellmar, Wildwood…yes these are all kinda trashy. But Avalon, Ocean City, Lavalette, Long Beach Island…these are much nicer and where a lot of actual New Jersey residents go.
But, as a Jersey Girl, I'll also admit that watching these trashy kids is kinda entertaining. Like a car wreck: you just can't look away.

im from new jersey, but im right by the delaware river….we grew up four wheeling, jumping off the bridge, running around and exploring. one summer, my friend jen suggested we all drive to the "shore"….the beach!!? ok, so we went….we had fun, but no, we were not like this hyped up show. i wasnt going to leave a comment because i left so many, but once again, to those that are going to think "well that is jersey is" or, 'accept what you are jersey", well, no….no it isnt like this! i live by the farms and countryside!

i am from the jersey shore, born and raised, and it is nothing like that. all of the people from that show are from staten island or north jersey which makes them bennies. yes, if you go to clubs in seaside, belmar or other shore towns bennies frequent you will see what is shown on that show. the actual inhabitants of the jersey shore are not like those people in any way shape or form. new jersey should not be judged based on a fraction of our population. i'm sure other states have people that act like assholes too.

Clearly, Perez, you don't know shit about our beach communities. I live in Manasquan and its one of the most beautiful, friendly, family oriented and traditional towns on the shore. Most of these idiots on this show are from Long Island or Northern Jersey. Sure some of our economy relies on their summer rentals but that doesn't mean they have the right to disrespect our people and our beaches.
You need to be more specific when talking about the "Jersey" shore. What you're talking about is all up North. All the more reason why North and South Jersey should be separate states.

There are a few comments floating around that the cast members are mostly Persian claiming that they are Italian. I have never seen the show, but it is on MTV not PBS so everyone on the show would be actors and they could be from Wyoming or Wisconsin for all we know. Why is the assumption that everyone from Jersey shore is Italian? Are they paying the non-guido/guidettes to stay out of the shots? I approve of the show if they do, to increase the state household incomes.

Only one of those cast members is actually from New Jersey and in that right, yes, it is accurately representative of the "jersey shore" because toolbags from numerous different areas come here from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year to dump on our communities. A drive through Seaside right now will have you anticipating tumbleweeds, that's how quiet it is. And you have to consider the types of clubs they are filming in… Headliners, etc, these are places that only play house and thusly attract the italian/pseudoitalian guido population. What of the Osprey? How about Leggett's? Parker House? Edgar's? And even so, who are you to judge someone for the way that they dress? In my opinion, yea they look absolutely ridiculous. But I fail to see how a gay male can promote judging these people by their covers. Way to go, America. Way to buy into the editing and the manufactured drama. Get over it! Its a show and its doing really well! Do you complainabout the real housewives of new Jersey too? I live in Baltimore and would be happy that our city is even getting recognized on TV!
I bet if they made a stereotypical show for each state MTV could start an internet-based civil war… so they might do that.
