Thriller Video Added To The National Film Registry In The Library Of Congress!
Michael Jackson's 1983 music video for Thriller has been officially inducted for preservation in the 2009 National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.
It's the first music video in history to be bestowed the honor!
Coordinator Steve Leggett explains the National Film Preservation Board's choice:
"Because of the way the recording industry is evolving and changing, we thought it would be good to go back to the development of an earlier seismic shift, which was the development of the music video."
Pretty cool for the late King of Pop!
The Muppet Movie was also chosen for induction this year alongside Once Upon a Time in the West with a young Clint Eastwood and Jezebel starring Bette Davis.

It's cool and all, but I just think it sucks that people had to wait until Michael died to show him some respect and recognize his tremendous impact on popular culture. Just like many other greats, Michael will be more popular dead than he was alive.

Better late than never,but "The Thriller" will be immortal regardless of formal recognition because he was a trully amazing artist and human being and he was loved by millions.
Exactly where it belongs!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the video…more than the song actually, I mean the songs great buts its the video and dance that make it so ground breaking and it didn't even use any of the computerized crap that todays stuff does and its better than all the movies and music videos that do!! I mean the whole story line is great, I think he's a great actor in the movie theater scene and as he starts singing outside of it and than the dance…its all amazing. Plus he looks SO cute and his smile is amazing!! I'm a girl, I can't help it. LOL =)

Quite an honor for Thriller especially since most of the movies are quite old (before 1970, most before 1960). People forget that Thriller can be seen in its short form or it's long (14 minutes form). MTV for a time had to air it twice an hour to meet demand. Even the making of documentary was a commercial success.
The John Landis directed short film was even played in theaters in LA and NYC to qualify it for possible Academy Awards consideration. I think it would be a fitting tribute to Jackson and Thriller, that this "video" becomes the only one added to the National Film Registry and that a separate section is started for the unique medium music video was/is.
The media perscuted him until he died. YOU SUCK MEDIA!!! MJ's videos were ahead of it's time and in my opinion, his music and vidoes are better than any artist today.
