It's ON Again!

After director Peter Berg dropped out of the Dune remake last October, Paramount has finally found a replacement.

Set to direct the sci-fi classic will be Taken director, Pierre Morel.

The 1965 book by Frank Herbert originally had the screenplay written by Quantum of Solace scribe Josh Zetumer.

But Paramount is now looking for a new writer to incorporate some of Morel's visions into the project.

What do U guys think, worth watching?

i'm excited! the old movie is classic but very retro, should be good with new speical effects i hope. i really liked the books!!

    2. 2

Oooh, can't wait, hope they attempt the sequels.

    3. 3

      No.

Dune cannot work on the big screen. Period.

    4. 4

this is shit. pure and simple. only dune massiah. david lynch. out.

    5. 5

the last two times they have remade this thing it sucked…to long and boring…very predictable

    6. 6

"Avatar' should put a lid on the old remake mindset. The Majors should look for new sci fi material and make it with people who aren't on dope. A lot of the A List may never work again.

    7. 7

What is that?? A giant worm with teeth?

I'd rate Dune in my personal top five of all sci-fi novels. Any new tries at taking it to the big screen need to stick to the plot - the previous versions haven't really captured the essence of the book. The bar has been set damn high with 'Avatar' (in terms of SFX) tho'….

My thought on this issue are too complex for me to articulate.

    10. 10

Having been a huge fan of the books in high school, I thought David Lynch RUINED it with his voice over interpretation, and that Kyle guy was rubbish. A remake cannot possibly be any worse.

    11. 11

Is it just me, or PH is getting boring?..

    12. 12

I really love all of the Dune series. Frank Herbert, and later on, his son, were really gifted. I enjoyed this movie 20 some years ago when we almost saw Sting naked (!) so I can only hope they put a lot more homoeroticisim into the newest release. Can't wait to see it.

    13. 13

WWWWHYYY? Are they doing a remake??

DUNE was a load of crap when the original was released in the early eighties.

It was hyped to be the 'new' star wars and was sooo horribly BORING it bombed.

Macys in NYC even had their windows devoted to the themes of the movie, but everyone was sadly disappointed.

This is what happens when people ignore history.

    14. 14

fuck no! the original Dune was kick ass, for fuck's sake DAVID LYNCH was the director! it doesn't get any better than that!

maybe if James Cameron or Tim Burton did it I might take a look, but otherwise hell no.

    15. 15

      TREMORS. Seen it.

    16. 16

      Nooooooooooooooooooooo I hate DUNE

    17. 17

How about you stop asking questions like this without providing some basis of thought. Your readership is young and impressionable and I am DAMN sure that you where attempting to play with the viewer numbers on Avatar with your original "flop" post. How about trying to be a little more researched in your articles, because obviously the cracks are running deep and your starting to depend on tweens to be the basis of your viewership, guess what? they dont have creditcards to buy the shit you advertise on the side.

grow up and figure this shit out cause people, there upset.

maybe apologizing for the flop post might go a long way.

    18. 18

I hope it'll be worth it!! Love the original movie.

    19. 19

Please leave it alone. David's film is the best.

    20. 20

There is nothing wrong with David Lynch's interpretation of Dune; it's accurate and timeless. How about someone tackle the Dune House trilogy. Scottish ginger, Tony Curran would make an excellent young Baron Harkonnen.

I was excited to watch Dune on dvd, but my wife and son laughed during the whole thing. 'But for that time it is fairly great!' doesn't cut it for the young. Maybe a good remake will do justice to the original story, instead of pointing to stop-motion techniques that are inept to baffle anyone who has not been under a rock the last 10 years.

    22. 22

I know some ppl will hate me for saying this but I really think Dune needs remaking. I love scifi and even though I really wanted to enjoy Dune I just thought it looked so old and cheap. Some films like the original SW stand up to time better but I would like to see a GOOD remake of Dune.

    23. 23

If they are going to do a remake of the movie I will go and watch. Loved the one with Sting and love the whole series of books. To bad they burned along with my house.

    24. 24

We found the version with Sting in it boring. Do we really need a remake of this tired old thing now that Avatar is out there?

    25. 25

      No, no, NO! Bleccccchhhhttt!

    26. 26

      YES!!

I can't wait for a new Dune with Pierre Morel at the helm!!

    27. 27

Its tough to remake a classic, Planet of the Apes, War of the Worlds, The Day the Earth Stood Still, all of these remakes sucked and blew.

    28. 28

Dune is my favorite book. It is a huge undertaking for a filmmaker; the entire story can't be presented in two hours. The sci-fi miniseries wasn't bad, it stuck more to the story. (With the bonus of 20 year old shirtless James McAvoy…) I'm not very hopeful about the quality of a remake, but I'll probably watch it anyway.

    29. 29

      Why?! For Fuck Sake, WHY??!!!

    30. 30

It would be very hard indeed to bring Dune to the big screen like it should be done. It's a fantastic book, and I recommend it to anyone and everyone….If you want insight into geo politics, tribalism and guerilla warfare there is really no better book.
there were certain aspects of Lynch's dune that were ok…certain art-direction details i think he nailed pretty well….but his direction of the internal monologues with voice overs was horrible. hopefully someone can bring justice to this amazing story. I remain hopefull. and I'll second the comment about trying to cause shit with calling things a bomb ahead of time….there's no call for that sort of thing….if you're here to report the world of celebrity then do so…but trying to 'steer' the events yourself isn't reporting or commenting, it's just shitty…….

    31. 31

I'm SO waiting to see this! I always felt the original version wasn't good enough for this book, that they could've done something more with it, so I'm all ass-cited to see this!

    32. 32

      OH NOES! !!
Perizzles abnormally tiny cock has swelled to massive proportions and is on a hungry rampage!!! Men, boys of all ages save yourselves!!!

Wouldn't it be nice if somebody in Hollywood–anybody–would have an original thought? Let's turn a comic book into a cartoon then into a stage play then into a movie then into a cartoon!!!! Wow. How creative. There have been 10 zillion sci fi stories written since 1965. There have even been some GOOD stories written since 1965. How about turning one of THEM into a movie?
