I lived down the street from the R&R hall of fame and there was NO WAY anyone even walking by or looking for it could find the location. It was on a side street in SoHo on the residential side of the street in a basement. There was no sign or anything in front, above or in the widows (which you could barely see from the street). A glaced at it a few times and thought it may be a boutique motorcycle accessory store or a tiny rock and roll memorabilia store.

I'm going to disregard how old this news is and focus on the dramatic title. "The Day the Music Died" for the closing of an ANNEX to the R&RHF? As a die-hard rock fan and musician, the R&RHF has nothing to do with rock and roll… and if all versions of this hall closed down in one day, it would do true lovers of rock a great service. I went to the main HF in Ohio in 2003, saw huge Britney Spears and Madonna displays (and one– yes, one– display of the Rolling Stones, I think it was a guitar) and promptly LEFT. Let's petition the administrators to change the RRHF to Pop Hall of Fame and let the real rockers have a real rock&roll museum.

honestly, I'm glad.. the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland for a reason, and this town needs a boost like you would't believe.. hopefully some life will head our way b/c of this! But, did anyone know this is where the phrase rock and roll came from? A DJ named moondog (also the cav's mascot) coined the phrase decades ago…

This is kind of a bummer as I would have visited it next time I was in NYC. The Hall of Fame is kind of on my shit list for it's relative lack of recognition of women in rock.
Pat Benetar, Tina Turner (solo), and Stevie Nicks (solo) anyone?

Well, it goes to show that NY can't handle the extreme cool of cleveland

My apologies to NYC, but we have a great Rock Hall of Fame……….right here in Cleveland!! If you've never been & are truly a ROCK fan, come check it out! (Don't worry, our rivers no longer catch fire) And there's an awesome science center right next to the Rock-Hall.

Music didnt die hunny. The ORIGINAL and BETTER Hall of Fame is in Cleveland. Cleveland is the birthplace of rock n roll and its really trying to fight off NYC from taking over everything that has to do with it. If you wanna see a really great museum, go to Cleveland. I love going downtown to see the HOF and no museum in NYC could ever change it. Cleveland lives for Rock n Roll and NYC really needs to stop trying to take it away.

For those of us who did not have the privilege of traveling to Cleveland, the taste of music history that was displayed at the New York Annex was great. I went there during the summer and I loved it. The John Lennon display alone was worth the $26. I was hoping to go back, so it is sad. Maybe now I can get my ass to Ohio.

To those of you that are saying that NYC was trying to steal rock n roll from Cleveland….well, it was the organizations idea to open an annex in New York for a reason. Sure the cleveland museum is great…but NYC has a lot more going on, when it comes to music.

Too bad they picked probably the worst possible location to open it.

Okay, I live 30 miles outside of Cleveland (ironically, I left the metro NYC area for Cleveland 5 + years ago) and I can categorically say your statement is BS. You must have not have looked too hard because the bulk of the R&R HoF is devoted to the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, the Doors (they have tons of stuff from Jim Morrison's childhood, including Boy Scout stuff - lol), etc. The Britney display was a couple of costumes from her tours/videos. I'm guessing you didn't venture far off the main floor.
