On the "Share Your Story" page of Oprah Winfrey's website yesterday a posting involving American Idol alum Adam Lambert:
"Calling ALL Adam Lambert Fans!!! Did you vote for him as many times as you could? Were you holding your breath when the new American Idol was announed, hoping and praying it would be HIM? If you are a HUGE fan of Adam Lambert's, email us now and tell us why you want to be in the audience for this once-in-a-lifetime show."

Back when Glambert was on O's show in October she invited him to come back and perform after his CD was released. Maybe that's what this is all about?

I love that he's barely released anything yet is already part of pop culture, you don't even have to add American Idol in brackets next to his name like you do the others, he broke out of 19E long before though, even before they told him for the first time in history "K dude, what do YOU wanna do, we'll just go along with everything and support you." -I am not a Lambert fan but always hear the debate whether he is a SUCCESS or FAILURE. The truth seems to lie closer to success.
-His album is stuck at #29 on the Billboard 200 but a new chart is due out tomorrow. The album should move from over 400,000 sold to 500,000,and Gold Status soon.
-That would put him among 15 other idols to achieve gold status or higher (7 winners, 3 runners up, and 5 who finished between 3rd-7th)
-The single 'Whataya Want From Me'" debuted at #72 but then only moved up 4 places to #68. Again we will see where it is going bases on tomorrow's charts.
-His two previous singles "For Your Entertainment" (#61) and "Time For Miracles" (#50) were failures due to lack of radio play more than anything.
-An appearance on Oprah may do lots of good.
-I will compare apples with apples in my next post.

(7) David Archuleta's debut (#2) sold 950,000+ and he just had a holiday album.
(6) Blake Lewis's debut (#2) sold 300,000+ copies, he was dropped by his label, his 2nd release (#135) sold 10,000 copies.
(5) Katharine McPhee's debut (#2) sold 350,000+ copies, she was dropped by her label and her just released 2nd album appears not to have entered the top 200.
(4) Bo Bice's debut (#4) sold 650,000+ copies but he was dropped from his label and his second release (#154) sold only 62,000 copies.
(3) Diana Degarmo's debut (#52) sold 150,000+ copies, she was dropped from her label and has since only released a digital EP only.
(2) Clat Aikin's debut (#1) sold over 2,750,000 copies, next came a holiday album(#4) that also went platinum, but then with his 3rd (#2) 500,000+ copies and 4th (#4) 150,000 + albums, and a Greatest Hits Package(#173) that sold 7,000 copies. He left RCA after album #4.
(1) Justin Guarini' debut (#20) sold 100,000+ copies, he was dropped from his label and his second album failed to chart and I don't know it's sales figures.
I think overall Adam is doing Just fine. He is way ahead of 4 idol runners up, should end up close in sales to another, but will likely not reach the heights of two with this debut.

My previous post was only meant to focus on album sales. Each of these Idol runners up have had a variety of successes and failures in virtually every other medium of popular entertainment and should be considered separately.

Perhaps what offends me most about your article is the subtext that Adam is somehow raping our minds. That his lewd acts are creeping into our homes and that we’re powerless to fight back, that we cannot simply turn off the television. He’s some ghastly, sexual monster creeping out of the static in a true life Poltergeist or The Ring. You define this characteristic as a selfish desire to impose upon others and profit from others’ defenselessness. To your credit, Peggy, you accurately assign this personality to the people responsible for the financial crisis as well.

You think that I consider the entertainment media and political sphere equally in my life. That is offensive. You think that “faux oral sex” is horrifically, irreversibly imprinted upon the fabric of American culture and that that is somehow worse than the financial and environmental destruction of American culture. On second thought, I just re-read your article. You kept a straight face while pining for the simpler, happier time of 1960? Fifty years ago, the moral fiber of this country was stronger you say? The Civil Rights Act wouldn’t pass for another 4 years. Women were but a shadow in the work place. Let’s not forget about the shreds in our moral fabric back then. I’m certain those times were more egregious than the present incursions upon your puritan borders.
Do you want to have a discussion about moral and cultural degradation?
