Disney & Sony Set To Release 3D Movies On Blu-Ray Disc

And the phenomenon comes closer to home once again.

Both Disney and Sony had some terrific 3D movies out in the theaters this past year and in the year ahead. Now, they are continuing to bring that magic into the homes of all those with Blu-Ray.

This morning, Disney announced that 3 of there biggest films, Christmas Carol, Alice in Wonderland, and Toy Story 3, will all be available on a 3D Blu-Ray disc when the time comes. Sony announced yesterday that their first 3D Blu-ray title will be Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, which is already out on regular DVD.

We see the appeal of the technology, but is this taking it a bit far?

What do U think?

I hate 3D movies. Waste of money. Some of us are not comfortable with those glasses and without them the movies in 3D are useless to watch. I hate hate hate the idea of 3D coming to DVD and will never ever ever buy those type of DVDs. My Kids don't like 3D movies either.

This is AWESOME news. I can't wait to get every 3D DVD possible. I really feel part of the experience when I watch movies in 3D. Fantastic news! Regular movies are still great too, no hating on that. The 3D is simply "different" and refreshing. A new type of movie experience.

Why would enhancing the home movie experience with new technology taking anything too far?

How is re-releasing movies on 3D BD "taking it a bit far?" Personally I can't get enough of James Cameron's Avatar in 3D and look forward to watching movies and playing games in 3D at home. Until then, I have a reason to watch good movies in a cinema again.

Such a good idea! Better than that blue/red 3D crap.

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton's AIW is already going to be insane and creepy…I can't WAIT to see it even crazier in 3-D! and since A Christmas Carol was released in 3-D to begin with I don't see the issue with releasing it in 3-D on Blu-Ray. Seems that would be the only way to see it if you ask me!

    13. 13

That sounds really nice. It'll look fantastic!

And remember who's singing "Alice Underground" on Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland.Well fat gay boy,it's none other than Avril, your worst nightmare.

      Seriously man.
      It's "their" not "there".

Viewing these discs on a regular TV isn't going to give you the true 3D experience. At CES this week in Vegas, true 3D TVs are the hot ticket item that will be released later this year. 3D viewing is going to get even bigger and Disney making this move is really at the forefront of this trend we are going to start seeing, along with ESPN's 3D channel. The one disappointing thing though is that all of the TVs being introduced this week do require glasses for 3D viewing which can be a hassle. Basically though.. we are going to be seeing A LOT more 3D

I def dont think they're taking it to far Perez! 3D rocks, and I plan to get all the 3D movies they are releasing, im just bummed they didnt release Up in 3D too, that would have been wicked cool!

    19. 19

Face it, Hollywood has run dry. They are rehashing old TV shows & movies, what next Smellavision?

    20. 20

I don't understand how this could be seen as going too far.
If there are 3D televisions people are going to want 3D movies to watch on them, well done genious.

    21. 21

five or ten years from now every body will have 3D in their homes. You're a moron. Nothing new there…

    22. 22

      ugh this is fucking stupid.
now we can stay at the tv for hours!!!
and with the glasses on we wont know if annyones trying to get our attention.
fucking technologie has gone WAYYY too far.

      really this is rediculous.

    23. 23

If you want REAL 3-D … stop being two-dimensional and actually get out of the house. Try a theater, library, concert, live sports match, whatever. Just a suggestion!

I don't think it is taking things a bit too far, but I do question what percentage of the public owns 3d ready televisions.

    25. 25

Re: Team Jacob wolf – guess what? ur a fucking douche! have a nice day.

    26. 26

Yeah, unless you actually HAVE a 3D tv it's just going to be those crappy red and blue glasses like the Coraline dvd and the Monsters vs Alien dvds. I stopped watching the 3D side and popped in the normal side and it was better viewing. On a regular tv it's not the same as in the theatre at all. Especially this type of 3D with the backgrounds being more scenice.
